Everybody is wondering how the team plans to remove the editbots from the stats pages.  Apparently they are there to indicate that edits have been made so that writers can check their articles for correctness, but there are many questions about when and if they will be removed as there seems to be no way to do this.

How about this:  Put a time limit, say a month, on how long they will appear.  This will give writers a chance to check their work, etc.  After that, automatically remove the ones that have been accepted or corrected by writers.  When it comes time to put the next batch on, use a different color so people know they are new edits.

Since most people are finding that the majority of errors are in the comments, why not simply delete those that are incorrect so that the bots never appear?

This may not work, but it is a thought.  Maybe if we all put our heads together, we can come up with some viable way to deal with those pesky bots!

I conclude that the little edibots  are a permanent fixture here on HubPages.  HubPages intends to enhance its reputation of being a premier, if not the most premier writing site.   HubPages wants its writers to be simply the best.

If you read some of the comments about the problems people are encountering or expect to encounter as the result of the editbots, you will see why we need a way to remove them once the articles have been checked by the authors.  For instance:  what if someone edits their article after the editbots have gone through it, and makes another mistake?  What if a new comment comes in that has a mistake in it?  How will the writer know which edits are new and which have already been dealt with?

This is a good point to be pondered upon.
We should be able to identify which corrections are yet new to be verified and approved by us.
Corrections once approved should be freed from these editbot symbols.

How about once we have checked the edits and left or unclicked the changes that the Editbot has picked up, there is a button for us to click to say we are happy with it all. Then the Editbot icon disappears until it is needed again.

I like that one a lot.  Someone else mentioned something similar.  It seems an easy way to clear the stats page.  I hope the team is listening!

Good idea,  I edited some of my hubs to make the corrections which coincides with the editbot,  but I would like to have the box removed so if I see it return I know there is another issue.  Thanks

What if their correction is not just U.S. vs. U.K. spelling, or sauté vs. saute but is something blatantly wrong (such as immigrant vs. emigrant). Let the bots "do their thing", but after 30 days (a reasonable grace period), remove the appearance of the little buggers from our accounts!

Agreed--today, there is a plethora of the little critters all over my hubs, and I suspect most of them are comment-oriented.

As I have already made the two corrections of typos that were within actual hub material, and as the comment corrections were automatically done by the bots, since we do not have that ability, it is already getting confusing as to which were already done, and which are new.

I really don't want to have to initiate a "bookkeeping system" to keep track of this....

      Well said, Lizzy.
It's literally book-keeping of corrections made and to be made, approved already and yet to be viewed and approved and so on. It is a lengthy list and needs many columns in your book to maintain the records upto date.

The Hubpages management would turn all of us into pretty accountants.

TIMETRAVELLER2, I don't agree with deleting comments. Some really add to the hub, with a small error such as its rather than it's I wouldn't want the comment gone. I prefer the editbot doing its work in such cases.

+1. Deleting comments is not an option. It messes up the conversation about a hub.

I've just manually corrected all hub errors but cannot do so for comments. However, when we are signed out, the comments corrections are already in place anyway and in most cases these are helpful and correct. So once all hub corrections have been made,  please Remove the Bot Symbol from our stats page.

Why is that so difficult to do? Removal of the bot symbol could be automated via the "Done Editing" button.

Sue, You don't need to edit the hub to make the corrections. The editbot changes are automatic with the hub content just as you noticed with the comments. If you look at your hub while signed out you will see that the changes are already there.

As for the removal of the editbot icon, my suggestion is to do so whenever one clicks on the "show up to x corrections" tab. That should be sufficient to indicate that we reviewed the changes and either accepted them or that we removed the checkmark to revert back to the original.

Can you be more specific on what you tried? I'm asking because the way I explained it is exactly how Maria said to do it when the editbot was first announced, and it works for me that way. No need to go into edit mode.

I wasn't in the edit mode.  I went to the tab that says something about the corrections, clicked on it, hide edits came up.  I went back to my stats page to check, and the bot was still there...so were the edits which were visible to me initially.

I know how to change the edits back.  What I am talking about is removing the bots from the stats page once I have reviewed the edits.

Oh, I see what you did wrong! You initially edited the hub in the HubTool and changed the items that the editbot had flagged. So that messed up the bot.

The icon does not go away. This has already been confirmed and HP will be working on that.

Since you changed it manually using the HubTool instead of removing the checkmark in the live version, the next time you clicked on the "show up to x corrections" tab on top, it didn't find anything to change. So it just stayed there.

If you edit the hub, as I see some people are doing, you are bypassing the editbot. The instructions clearly say to view the live version of your Hub (i.e., not the HubTool).

Nope...I did not edit anything on the hub tool but rather simply checked to see if the edits were correct and put a check mark next to the ones that were not to change them back.  Yes, I know the editbot cannot be removed and they are working on this, but I thought you had found a way to get rid of it.  Sorry for the mixup!

I guess I misunderstood you too. When you said previously that you edited the hub, I thought you meant that you went into the HubTool to edit it.

By the way, you don't add a checkmark to change the editbot, you remove it. If you leave the checkmark then you are agreeing to the change. When you remove the checkmark you are telling the editbot that it was wrong so it leaves the item unchanged.

      @ Sue Adams:
Deleting comments is always an option, and it does not mess up the conversation about a hub if you keep your comments set to "must be approved before being displayed."  Then, no one else has seen the comment before you decide to allow or disallow it, so neither have they been able to respond based on another's comment, ergo, no 'messing up' of the thread.
I have my comments set to 'must be approved' as a global selection, applying across all hubs.  This is because I was having quite a bit of trouble with stupid, irrelevant, spammy comments, that either made no sense, or were simply at "good hub--to solve this go to--this link" kind of thing.
So yes, I delete and disallow those all the time.
The only time I have actually deleted an entire comment thread from a hub is the one time when someone disagreed with me so vehemently that they were attempting to start a flame war, and I wasn't having that, so I deleted all of their comments along with my own replies, and un-followed  that person.
The next time I wrote a hub on a controversial topic that I thought might generate that sort of response, I simply did not include a comment capsule.

I have checked two or three hubs till now. Mainly the mistakes are in comments which cannot be rectified. In one of my post there was one spelling mistake and one mistake in comment section, I corrected the spelling and saved the text but the other one which is in comment section that cannot be done. Later when I was done with editing then to my surprise it still shows 'two corrections'. What is this? It is unnecessarily creating a problem for the users.

    1. DzyMsLizzy profile image85
DzyMsLizzyposted 8 years agoin reply to this

      @ shampa sadhya:

The corrections in the comments are done automatically by the editbot.

No, we cannot correct comments ourselves, but the editbot can;  you, however, do have the option to accept or reject the bot's correction to those comments.
To accept, do nothing.  To reject, UN-check the box shown next to the highlighted correction.

It will continue to show that however many corrections were made/suggested, even if you accepted them, when they are in the comments.

However, if you have a correction within your Hub material, and either accept the bot's suggested correction, or make a manual edit, there is a weird thing of it still saying "up to 1 correction"  ... but then when you click that, it will turn around and tell you there are none to be made.

I think this is a glitch that was overlooked when they unleashed this animal upon us.

I was just about to post a question/forum asking about these edit bots because I hadn't logged in in a couple of days and had not seen them before.

If you have none you are a rare bird indeed (and very fortunate). Click on your name (Alphadogg16) at the top of this page, and then on My Account. That will take you to a display of all of the hubs you have written. Do you see any little robot faces imbedded on your posts? That's what we are talking about?

There is no way to edit old comments and therefore no idea of having these bots on the stats page if the comments cannot be edited. These bots are certainly not something that enhance the beauty of the stats page.

They ought to go away as soon as someone has made corrections to the hub as suggested if it is grammatically correct as I have seen the editbots too make incorrect suggestions.

Just remove the checkmark if you feel that the editbot made an incorrect suggestion. This works on comments too.
