My definition of a good writer is one that enjoys writing just to write. Proper spelling, punctuation, and style only matter if you wish to do it for money which shouldn't be the motivating factor for any writer.

To define what a good writer is not easy.  It depends on what you are writing about.  A short story, poem, pose, factual writing, etc.  Even authors who write children's stores are considered good writers.

A good writer invokes interest without caring too much about what people think, and writes what they want. If you are writing about things you have no interest in, chances are it isn't going to be great. Also, don't try to be too serious or too funny or too anything, because people can tell. Appearing (and being, I guess) effortless is a reallly good thing.

A good writer uses proper grammer and punctuation, though spelling is not as important. That's just a fact. A good writer also understands people and knows how to convey truth through their character's thoughts and actions. But I think a great writer can invoke thought and emotion in readers.

A good writer uses proper punctuation at all times. Grammar and spelling is equally important. Also, having a decent knowledge of what you are writing about is a MUST.

A great writer will research what they are writing about, whether it is on the internet, in a book, or observation alone - you cannot write a good piece without proper knowledge of what you're writing about

I think there is actually a way to measure good writing. It's true that writers can differ wildly on style and execution, but I think what really defines a good writer is how much work they're willing to put into editing. None of us are immune to making mistakes, so I can't say that perfect grammar is required (even after countless edits tiny issues can be missed by almost everyone), but I think it's the effort that shows through in the writing. If a writer sends out a first draft, thinking it's good enough for publication, clearly they don't care enough for the story to make it the best it can be. There is no such thing as a perfect first draft. The truly hard work (mostly editing) and our willingness to do it, is what defines a good writer. If you think writing is easy, then you're doing it wrong.

A good writer is one who writes with the heart, but in a concise and clear. Knows how to describe environments and characters so thoroughly that the reader can feel and see what happens in each scene. A good writer is one who always manages to add something to the reader when he finishes reading.

    Captivate my interest...............

We all know about spelling, punctuation, avoiding run on, etc, and etc..........but it simply HAS to be interesting.  If it is not, then forget it.  When it is, many 'errors' can be overlooked.

One that can write an article in a very clear manner, with continuity so the readers will never get lost. She or he can move any reader's imagination by being descriptive and creative.

A good writer writes naturally as if they were speaking to you personally.  Obviously they should have a command of language and syntax.  A talented writer will write very economically, conveying sensory information exactingly in as few words as possible.  Sometimes they even make up words that the reader instantly knows the definitions of.

Certain parts of defining a good writer can be subjective. Creative writing is very much subjective. Factual or non-fiction writing is more defined.

In reality, a writer is really an observer. They observe how people react under different situations and attempt to breath as much life into their work as possible. To be able to convey what is going on in the characters minds, how the world seems to work and the plots as they play. The ability to bring an audience to it's knees and raise it up again with the stroke of a pen. To craft a plot which makes the reader crave more, to the point the reader is begging for relief. That is a writer, someone who can drop you in the middle of a book make you see, feel, hear and believe the world they create.

There is no such thing as a good writer. There are only observant ones.

In my mind, the definition of a good writer is a person who writes clear and naturally. He or she learns to write what he/she wants but is still able to grasp the readers attention. A good writer must be willing to spend time researching, writing, and then editing. He or she also uses proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation when writing. A good writer is creative, descriptive, and unique.

In my own point of view, a good writer is someone whose job is to give a reader something new which he cannot forget and which could change his perspective towards the world or his life. Not only that, according to Stephen King a good writer knows how to transfer his imagined story into his reader's head and that means mastering how to give vivid description is a must.
