Depends if you believe in one or not
Believers will say yes, nonbelievers will say no
    (With a few exceptions)

I believe that faith in an invisible sky fairy (God) is no different than faith in Harry Potter.
Faith is an unquestioning loyalty to an idea. An idea such as God is conditioned by society to children at a young defenseless age. It is thus that we are usually born into our religion.
An person born in the middle east will mostly be Islamic, the U.S, mostly christian.

It is because of this, I say religion only complicates. It is conditioning a child with an idea and telling them never to question it - in other words, to be ignorant.

They are conditioned never to ask the most important question used to decipher reality from fiction, "How do I know God exists?".

The church conditions a person that their reasons are the best and to shun any others including science.

I do not believe in religion for many reasons, but I do believe in God.
Religion has a lot of mandatory rules that complicates peoples life and even to the point that religion become a hindrance to someone success. From my own point of view we do not need a religion, to believe in God, we can have faith and we can unconditionally believe in GOD without religion. In the bible there is no chapter that says or reckon that we must have a religion for us to be save or to believe in GOD.
Point is at the end of the day it is up to us if we believe and have faith in GOD with or without being part of a religion.

Just look around, many lives being taken away, many innocent people died because of religion, and I am sure that God does not want that His people will kill each other for the sake of religion that we are being part of. What matters and count is our faith and how strongly we believe that GOD do exist..

Depends on the religion that you choose as yours.
If you want your religion to show the right path of life, you should not depend on the religion of your parents. Yes , you can depend, if you find it as the right one after proper justification through study. Beware, You should not  rely on people's oral suggestions, since most of the people follow their religion and try to make others follower , blindly.

So, it is very very, certainly the most, important issue to find the right religion to guide your life on the right way.

@negraiska : If you believe in God, and if it is really true , then you are following a religion. It is because, believe in Got is the main and most important part of religion. negraiska , you are luckily a religious guy!

    Religion is belief in God.

Religion is not just belief in God, but also what you believe about God.

I don't have a problem with belief in God.

However, religions, especially fear based religion complicate what we should be believe about God. The conditions these religions throw on the masses is based on social and political factors and has little to do with the truth about God. These religious institutions create rules and beliefs to ensure their own survival.

God on the other hand give unconditional love, free choice and ask and needs nothing from us. Yet he stand to help us as God with no strings attached. That is the truth that religions hate.

For me, religion shows the path of life and how I see the world around me.

It puts everything into perspective from honouring 'thy father and mother' to greed, hatred and wars and what it does to nations.

For instance, I couldn't walk down the street in a tight, ultra-mini skirt nor move really close up to strangers on a train and feel comfortable about it.  The Bible and prayers form part of my life too and I often quote passages to myself at some point during the day or week.

Religion is just part of my life and it in no way complicates it at all.

Both, is the easiest answer for me.  Anything that sets rules or a format to life may also complicate it.  Every religion seems to be based around the well-being of its people.  Pretty simple rules.

Where it starts getting more complicated is when things are done to people within the group and what is justifiable etc.  Having dedication to something is more likely to concrete ones thoughts and/or action than with nothing reinforcing behavior.  Some of this responsibility has been taken over by the police.  We have a more structured society now than we use to.

Overall, everyone is influenced by religion; whether you accept it or not.  Most of your decisions, morals, and ethics are derived from the people around you (society).  And society decides what is correct by the masses.  And the masses are held by religion.

One atheist in a room of Amish is not likely to hit it off well and will either leave or modify his/her behavior.

Some religions offer rewards and some threaten hardship.  And to me - I believe in God and take the Christian religion with a few grains of salt.

Believing in any Religion can show us the path of life and make us firm believers of destiny and fate.
