How does one die to the flesh?

We are told to die to our sin, how exactly do we do this?

Wow!  Great question!  Dying to the flesh means putting our selfish desires aside in order to be fishers of men and representative of Christ.  It's very hard!  It means no more sexual sin, worshipping idols, coveting others' things, disobedience (those are the first that come to mind), no more selfish sins!  We must surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit, allowing ourselves to be used and focusing on living by the Word.

"To die to the flesh" is a term that defines the lifestyle Christian followers wish to live. That includes giving God credit for all that happens in a person's life. When the good and the bad happen  Christian's  rest assured knowing God is their provider and protector. We credit and honor God for taking us through life's ups and downs.  We focus on living our lives for God and not on ourselves. This is called glorifying God. Life is not about us but about God. This is a lifetime pursuit to die to the flesh.

To be dead to the flesh is to be dead to ones self. It means you are selflessness and have no pride for your heart belongs to God and your love for others. It is how Jesus Christ lived. In Proverbs 13:10 "By pride comes only contention", we learn that anger only lives in one's heart because of pride. By having pride, you value "I" and "Me" and surely you are not dead to your flesh. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself, but God must come first. By God coming first in your life, you will lack pride among other unhealthy emotions.

To die to the flesh means we do not allow ourselves to be ruled by our emotions or desires, especially if they go against what God says.  Christians recognize that acting on your desires and emotions is not always good and will not always lead you in the best places in life.  We allow God's spirit to lead us instead of our flesh.
