   Why was Rahab and her family the only survivors at the destruction of Jericho?
   
   was the harlot and her family consider better than those who were destroyed in the city?
   I am confused and looking for an answer.

   Rahab hid two of Israel's scouts and saved their lives. In return they promised her that her family would be spared. She dropped a red string from her window to show the attackers where she lived so they took her family to safety as the city fell. She had come to know that their God was the One True God. "The Lord your God is indeed God in heaven above and on earth below." So she was saved and became an ancestor of Jesus.
   Asa prostitute, she was actually considered less and an outcast, not better. But God knows the heart and hers was in faith to Him.

   I may have to actually write a Hub on this Topic. But for now...
   
   There are many such stories in the Bible. I continue to be amazed by how many Christians are eager to pass judgement on others, to try and dictate who is bound for Heaven and Hell, when the Bible goes out of its way to express how ill-equipped Man is to make such decisions.
   
   Jesus stood before a whore against an entire town and challenged them to cast their stones at him if they be better than she. And while hanging on a cross between a murderer and a thief, Jesus did not tell them how they deserved to be there and he did not... instead, he promised them a place by his side in Heaven.
   
   We are quick to judge and even quicker to pass sentence. I believe stories such as these are meant to remind us of an old adage: You cannot judge a book by its cover.

   Rahab was saved by faith as stated in Hebrews 11:31 “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace”. And she was justified by works when she obeyed by hanging the scarlet thread according to James 2:25 “Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?” In other words she was saved and justified in the same way we are today. Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. Works always follows faith – it is the evidence of faith.

Again I was not attempting to make a judgement, I just wanted someone who is equipped with the knowledge of this subject to answer the question. And each of you did again thanks.    Hebrews says that Rahab was a hero of faith! She dared to follow what she thought was right rather to conform to the cultural expectations of her city. In fact, the name Rahab means, "Freedom from narrowness."
   
   Her actions saved the spies. But the important thing is that she married the spy named Simeon and became in the lineage (and ancestor) of the Lord Jesus.
