   Actually, it depends on how you can define most powerful. Manufacturing wise, yes, China is the most powerful country in the world. Militarily? Not quite. It may have the largest standing army, but the resources in needs for that army are not properly distributed. If there were a country I could say is the most powerful, then I would say Switzerland. It has been neutral in every war for the past 200 or so years. It holds all of the worlds financial assets in the palm of its had, and if any country tries to mess with its finances or borders, it has the ability to call the largest nations in the world to its side. So how do I feel about China being the most powerful country in the world? Pretty good, because it has not achieved that rank as of yet.

   China poses no threat to me. The capitalists are not worried either because they will earn money regardless. The only ones who might be worried are the racists who believe that they have a monopoly on world domination. In modern times China has not invaded, threatened, or overtly exploited anyone. When others thought that they were exploiting China for cheap labor they used it to their advantage. If I were Chinese I would declare, Winning! But time will tell.

   I respect China and their wonderful culture and also their many contributions to all of civilization. I do believe that China is not the most powerful nation because only a very few of the people in this country have true wealth, because the major population are working class people. True, they do have a lot of clout, however they do not yet have the technology of the U.S. Even though our nation is going through an economic crisis, as is the world, we are still the greatest country and most powerful, despite what others make think. Just ponder what we could accomplish if all the great countries of The U.S., China, Russia, and Europe, truly shared the same goals of improving the world and caring for their people's futures. There would be no limit to the greatness that we as a united people could accomplish. Every culture is to be revered and respected and a common goal of success in contributing all that we can. Even though we may live thousands of miles apart, our minds and goals don't have to.

   It is well known that China does not have a good human rights record eg Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, Tibet - current abuse, torture and genocide and invasion in 1950 and the Uighur ethnic group in North West China who are also fighting for their cultural survival.

   I wouldn't say that China is the most powerful, simply because (unlike the U.S. and a few other nations) most of their strengths are not yet aligned into a forceful single entity — or perceived entity. Their manufacturing, their use of energy and resources, and their massive population are significant forces in the world, but they have not yet coalesced their political will(s), social culture(s), and ethnic and national identity(ies). If and when they do, they will truly become the most powerful nation on the planet.
   
   However, running counter to the trend of any single nation's dominance is the rise in dominance of the collective will of the scattered peoples of the world. Globalization, the spread of information, cultural interconnectedness, and concerns for such varied issues as sustainability, Earth's environments, human rights, democracy, quality of life, standards of living, religious freedom, etc., are increasingly helping to unite people across national boundaries. Though I may never see it, I look forward to the day when being an Earthling is more important than being Russian, Sri Lankan, Czech, American, Portuguese or Chinese.

   i don't agree they are the most powerful but even if they are i'm ok with that. india is the country that scares me the most and i hope they never win the title of most powerful country.

   I don't see any issue in China being the economic powerhouse it is, as it will shortly be overtaken by India and then possibly Brazil. The only issue the world needs to be concerned with is how much trade they do with N.Korea. The last thing the world needs is N.Korea let out on a long leash!
