I've heard of people being friends after breaking up but I don't know anybody personally. My friend's parents split up when they were kids and sort of remained friends. Now, 25 or so years later, they moved back in with each other. Hugh Hefner is friends with all his "former" girlfriends
I couldn't be friends with any of mine. Too uncomfortable for me. Maybe years some years later, I suppose.
Well, I used to be friends with my ex before we started dating. Well, the dating was catastrophe, and quickly ended - after the awkward post-break up period we actually started talking again; and I think we are better friends than we were before. And his current girlfriend is a really nice girl, too
Anything is possible however it's probably best when there has been some time between breaking up and becoming friends. Maybe a year or two has gone by and the former couple bump into each other and build a friendship....etc
It's not likely to work out though if a couple goes from being re-hot lovers to platonic friends right after breaking up. Usually one person is secretly hoping to get back together. Lastly things have a way of changing overtime especially when one or both people enter into a serious relationship. Their new lovers may not want them hanging out which forces them to make a choice. Do I breakup with the person I love in order to remain friends with my ex (A person from a past "failed relationship")? Most people in a "serious relationship" will choose their present/future over their past.
Depending on how bad the breakup was and how much feelings you had for the others.
It will depend on how and why the relationship ended. Personally, I have a good relationship with my ex. We shared a significant amount of our life with each other and helped shaped each other in a way. If a relationship naturally runs its course it is possible to eventually rebuild your connection as one of pure friendship.
Well, I think right after the break-up there should be a time where the two individuals can heal and move on without having a lot of contact with each other. Then, after a while, if both people agree, I believe there should be a certain level of friendship, depending on the reason for the break-up.
A few months ago I broke up with my boyfriend and we both agreed to still be friends. I have tried to keep my end of the bargain, but he has totally treated me like an outcast, so.........I guess it would depend on the individual if they wanted to be friends or not. I could, but he didn't want to, so we just leave each other alone.
