What does it mean to you to 'be honest'?

   What does it mean to you to 'be honest'?
   
   Does it mean 'telling it like it is'?
   Does it mean stretching the truth? Is it important to you to teach your children to be honest?
   If someone you know and trust, lies in your presence, do you still feel that person will be honest with you?
   Is the honesty of another person important to you. Any thoughts??????

   It is extremely important to be honest and it's not really that hard.  For example, if I see an ugly baby (which is rare for me), I say, "Oh, how precious."   We teach our children by example.  The one thing I have never liked on the Andy Griffith show is the number of times Andy lied to Opie.  If the Bible says, "...all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone..."  (Rev. 21:8), then it means all liars.  It's never necessary to lie.

      I think this verse is referring to the habit of lying for one's own gain, as in those who might also be defined as "cowardly, unbelieving, vile," etc. There are instances in the Bible in which God actually rewards those who lie to protect others.

   Being honest is not as simple as it sounds.
   You can be honest when it will do someone some good.
   But it's not honest to life to be "brutally" honest if this will hurt someone.Also you need to consider your motives for being honest.

   Honesty is the end and beginning of all relationships. It matters a lot- be it the ones whom i interact with from work life or those who make a part of life. A person who is not honest questions the credibility or quality of our relationship. I'll be the first one to embrace and appreciate your effort for showing honesty, even if it was not the best thing to do. It sends out the right message.
   I'm comfortable with the idea of living with a person or relationship knowing that we all make mistakes, do stupid things at some point in our lives. It makes me stronger to know that our relationship won't be broken down for lack of understanding or trust. When you are honest, it feeds you mind with an unparalleled sense of fulfillment. I enjoy reading it like this- I know that you can be wrong but won't be dishonest. Being honest, is not about making no mistakes, it means to accept it honestly in front of someone who matters the most to you.

   To tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. No stretching the facts. Honestly is entirely important and more valuable that most individuals realize.

   Being honest is a virtue that many materialistic people lack. The main reason for them being dishonest is that they could not let go of avarice. Nowadays, we cannot be so gullible to such an extent that we got hoodwinked and blackmailed. Many people pinpoint the root of the problem to money, but the truth is: people could not resist their temptation.
   
   People have forgotten how to maintain equanimity as you can see so many avid teenagers craving for the latest smartphones even though they already have one. What's more alarming is that people have become more provincial as they are ensconced in their homes, oblivious to current affairs. How, in this situation, would they be honest?

   To be honest means offering the real truth without hiding anything. It's freedom. If someone I know and trust lies in my presence, that person definitely can afford to keep making lies. Unless he/she tries to change for the better, he will remain a dishonest person that people will find hard to to trust.

    I agree that be honest means be truthful, credible.
    Honesty doesn't simply mean telling all the truth. Firstly, the truth may be different in different people's eyes. Secondly, we all know that people often have to lie in the complicated world. Lies are not all bad, eg white lies.
    I think it's surely important to teach children to be honest. They must learn honesty first, then gradually learn in what circumstances they should or could lie. Sometimes we don't really have to lie, we just need to not talk about it.

    In my opinion being honest is telling the truth flat out. No stretching, no lies. But no one is ever honest, because a truly "honest" person would not be smart.
