   In so many years of your life (the longer the better) what was your Best Birthday Present?
   
   I know that so many of us do NOT like our birthdays.  And the older we get, the less we like those reminders of us getting older.  Even though, we all go in the same direction.  Sometimes, we get upset about not getting enough attention and sometimes we are too upset that even if we get presents, our friends seem either not to know us or really not to care.  "I have to make a present, anything will DO".  But there are some rare occasions and very special gifts that truly stand out...  Did you ever have that?

   The dislike I have for my birthday has nothing to do with aging.  It has to do with the catastrophes which seem to surround it. 
   I've had 2 birthdays in my life that didn't leave me in tears.  The first was when I was 6 years old and I got a Smurf birthday cake.  The second was when I turned 36.
   
   I told my hubby that it was the best birthday I've ever had.  No cake, no gifts, no cards (which was the usual disappointment)... but there were also no calls telling me someone was in the hospital dying, no one got into a car accident, no one died.  Plus, I had gotten a number of calls and facebook "happy birthday" wishes... which means, for the first time in decades, I was remembered. 
   
   Not sure if that qualifies as a "gift" but, so far it's the best I've gotten.

      I agree - it was not a gift, but it stood out and that is what counts.  Birthdays make us edgy like everything that is built out of proportion. If you remember 6th and 36th, try making another one just like them!!! And very Happy Next Birthday!!!

   Svetlana, my dear friend, it must have been my birthday itself, rather than the succeeding celebrations and remembrances.
   Of course I can't remember the day itself, but what gifts and presents I received.
   Born in a country and surrounded with characters and wonderful and harrowing events that any would-be writer would give his eye teeth to own.
   Born with a not too ostentatious silver spoon in my little mouth.
   Born of the most beautiful, intelligent and talented mother and the most splendid and outrageous father.
   Surrounded by servants, for the first nine years of my life, who loved me and made my life wonderful, secure, exciting.
   I didn't need special birthday presents to remember every wonderful year - every day was a wonder and an adventure.
   But now, and you asked for the longest lives if possible...
   Tomorrow will be my seventy-third birthday, and what would make me so happy would be for me to go home.
   So far, my dear friend, I am still in Hospital, awaiting discharge.
   Maybe it would sound better if I were to say, "I'm waiting to be discharged."
   (Doesn't sound so messy!)
   Ha! Ha!

   My most memorable gift was the personal notes I received in two birthday cards.  One was from my father when I was a young adult and the other was from my brother (he wrote a poem) that touched my heart about when we were growing up.

   Yes i remeber a long time ago when i was young, i received the best gift from my first love...red roses with a tape recorder and a tape with it playing all our favorite songs, a gift certificate to buy me a nice dress to wear for dinner in our favorite restaurant.

   The best of the best present I have received is TOM-TOM, yes, a nice GPS.  I choose this present due to the fact that I love driving and I do not know certain areas where I live.  With TOM-TOM everything is easier.

   I love my birthdays. The best birthday gift ever was in the year my marriage was fixed and my wife had sent me a greetings card. That was so lovely.

   As i remember that was my 14th birthday my elder sister gave me a game of chess that time i was crazy about chess so that was my best birthday gift ever.

    I do not usually celebrate my birthdays. But my daughter celebrates it and when she got her first salary she bought me a beautiful silk saree for my birthday and I cried of happiness on that day. It was so special.

    As we get older we may consider the fact that yes, we are older but an age is nothing but a number....no need to cut ourself short because it's our birthday. It's a gift being alive for another day and enjoy the people in our life that we love and those that love us.  Another gift, aquired by a birthday,"another day older and a year wiser!"
    
    However, a birthday gift that stands out for me, is my father. Years back it was Father's Day and I said,"Daddy, I got you something for Father's Day, can you guess what it is?" He said,"Let me guess, you?" I said,"Yes, how'd you know?" He said,"Jen, it's your birthday and I got you something for your Birthday, can you guess what it is?" I said,"No!" He said,"ME!"
    
    I was a kid and I thought that it was just great sharing Father's Day and my birthday together as it fell on the same day that particular year. It was a very special birthday for me and Father's Day for him. Together it was special for us both! Rememberable as well!
