I did something in September that I told myself, that no matter how much I try to chicken out, I am going to do it no matter what. And, that is enter a talent contest.

I always enjoyed watching American Idol, and wondered what it would feel like to sing in front of a large group of people, and people came up to me after the show and told me what a great job I did. People I didn't even know. I didn't win, but they said it was pretty close. I sang in front of 300 people, and nervous as hell.

But, I told myself, I'm going to do better next year. Already planning my show. But, the contest I entered isn't just about singing, it was also based on looks, and, a kind of interview portion. And, the guy who won was a professional entertainer with 4 years of music training. And, he was hot. Found out he was also recruited by the venue to compete, and I was the only non experienced volunteer.

I found out that I could get paid to write, and not just on HubPages. I'll likely never be financially independent from what I earn online, but the money is still nice. smile

I was offered and participated in a free (all-expenses paid) trip to Paris, France to be the "keynote" speaker at a conference. It was indeed an exciting and enlightening experience for me; however, it also made me realize that my worth is not just within the boundaries of my present employ... It has increased my self-actualization, if you will...

My son survived a horrible school bus crash and healed fully and completely (almost) and I am more grateful than I ever have been in my life for our good fortune. I think the best thing that happened, aside from the obvious of having my baby still alive,  is that I stopped taking small things for granted (like walking, showering, dressing oneself, etc) and that I gained a whole new depth of love and respect for my son as I watched him push himself through injury and surgery and rigorous physical therapy.  Our whole family is truly blessed and it came out of one of the worst moments of our lives - ironic.

It's so wonderful that you think of the good that came out of that horrific accident. I'm so glad your son survived and recovered.
