   Yesterday marked the 40 year anniversary of Roe vs Wade. Are women in a better place today?
   
   My Mother was a nurse from 1960 until 1986. During that time she described how woman came into the emergency rooms with coat hangers or knitting needles stuck in them, septic, bleeding and worse. She was a Christian woman who believed in life. But after what she saw and friends being raped she applauded when women were given a right to choose. She also saw that orderlies & interns were helping to kill & sterilize women  Why does this battle rage on?

   I think women are still having many of the same issues as they did 40 years ago especially if they are uneducated.  I read in the newspaper yesterday that over half of the women today have no idea what Roe vs Wade even is.

      I can believe it. In one of the college courses I taught to a group 21 & under they told me they didn't believe the slavery Pandemic or the Holocaust had ever happened. Dee

   I agree Sexladydee - I'm old enough to remember those days! Abortions will happen whether it is legal or not so why not keep it safe? It is still a very emotional decision and something each woman should have the right to decide.

      I don't understand why Politicians try to use it instead of truly working on real problems like debt, foreclosures, bank fraud, veteren's issues homelessness and hunger in this land of the free..... Dee

   It seems to be better...at least for now procedures aren't taking place in kitchens and bath-tubs across all 50 states. Although down the line who knows? Many people still and always will see first-trimester abortions as not a right to "choose" but a "right" to kill. Every election the more conservative politicians stick their agendas into the uterus of every woman to gain approval ratings and to  garner votes. As a spiritual person I have my own beliefs around this issue but will fight if it is ever  necessary to keep Roe versus Wade from being over-turned. It also greatly saddens me to hear many women don't even know the case??? Half? Jeez I really hope they got that number wrong!

      I also thought it was better until I saw that the last Congress tried to push thru over 35 x bills to restrict & outlaw Roe vs Wade. I had 26 wk baby & believe in life. But as a young victim of rape I would not have chosen to have a baby as a

      Thanks for your input Laura.  I know it's a hotbed topic & I find those cause us to have more in depth conversations. I would never cousel abortion but I understand & respect a woman's right to choose.  Dee

   Unfortunately there is regression into the dark days. There was a segment on the evening news the other day showing pregnant teenagers in Mississippi  being forced to watch sonogram images of foetuses to "help them make decisions about abortion".
   Sickening, to say the least.

      That is taking it a bit too far.  I'm surprised a parent allowed that.  There are permanent mental & psycological repercussions after the procedure.  It is never a scott free procedure emotionally.  Dee

   Roe v Wade is the best compromise between two divergent views.
   As the pregnancy progress from trimester to trimester the interest of the state becomes larger.
   
   We keep on using rape as the reason for abortion, but you know that abortion is used more frequently as fix the oops scenario.
   
   With rape, the abortion process wouldn't need to go beyond the first trimester so the procedure would be less invasive. But as the pregnancy develops the abortion is now going after something that is living. Abortions are being done where the baby could have actually lived on its own, but the doctors actually had to kill it.
   
   I am also not convinced that people that have multiple abortions are not really just working the system.
   
   We could always have a laws the limits abortions to the first trimester, and then after that time only in the case of an emergency or with court approval.
   
   Abortion shouldn't replace safe sex, and the use of protection for unwanted pregnancies. Rape is not up to the woman so that would make it an exception.

      Sherry I believe the reference is to the fact that Medicaid will pay for an abortion.  Which implies it was free.  Ib You obviously have never been raped or closely involved with someone who has.  It can take months for an individual to function. Dee

   I think Roe vs Wade gave women an out for poor choices and not taking responsibility for their actions. Of course, I am not talking about rape which is not a choice but a violation of one's person. And, I am not talking about medical emergency which would save the life of the woman. But, if we look around....we will see just how much of a lack of respect that a woman now has for her self than forty years ago....when one was faced with the reality of taking responsibility for her actions. And, even though many may have taken part in this process....a few learned the lesson....while other's continue to play. It amazes me that the child is unwanted and done away with while there are so many that are willing to adopt. Still, more amazing to me is the willingness to keep practicing free sex and the potential of contracting something far more dangerous than a baby.

      1st I can attest to using birth control in my marriage and getting pregnant.  It isn't perfect.  Yes over a 100,000 children of color available for adoption but women choose to go to China to get babies. Making a hard decsion is responsible. Dee

      Perhaps, then one should make the choice to refrain from being sexually active.....holding out for the right one.....showing respect to self and the one who is to come into one's life. Being responsible for choice and actions.

   It depends on how you look at things. We can all assume that life for a female has gotten easier because of the job market and how there are more laws to protect our rights. We also have more power then before, but still, life with a women is hard. We are still treated as property and as though what makes us a women is a sin that can used against us. Females are viewed as weak and only needed for those "certain activities". Males are not always to blame either, there are women in the world who believe that they, themselves, are beneath the world and deserve pain, humiliation, or even those who find themselves above everyone.
