Should we stop using the term "Illegal immigrant"?
The Associated Press has dropped the use of the term "illegal immigrant," but it's unclear whether lawmakers in Washington will do the same? (USNEWS)
Why? Illegal means Illegal. Maybe we should decriminalize drug use and bank robbery, since illegal doesn't appear to mean anything anymore...
Spot on ajwrites our politicians and press are more interested in being politically correct than dealing with or reporting on such matters.
Absolutely not. What is wrong with this country? Should we all just abandon the law because we don't like the language? I don't think I should have to acquire a drivers license to legally drive my car, so why should that be referred to as "driving illegally?" I don't like that term.
I am overwhelmed by the stupidity of the liberal press and politicians.
I'm with you ajwrites57. It seems more and more the letter of the law only applies to "law abiding" citizens.
All immigrants are immigrants, but not all immigrants are legal. They must then be given the opposite term, which is illegal ! ! ! My grandparents came to this country in a leaky boat, with passage paid by the sweat of years of hard work saving for the voyage. They landed on Ellis Island with dreams of a new life. Their dreams also included the reality, that they would learn English, become citizens, and raise their children as Americans. This is the model and it has worked well and will continue to do so.
Why would we if used for an immigrant who is on our country illegally? I can't think of a better term.
No, I don't think we should stop using the term "illegal immigrant". If you enter the country illegally, you are an "illegal immigrant". This politically correct nonsense has got to stop.
Like I keep saying; what about the word illegal do they not understand? No, they should not quit using it, it is the proper term for what they are. They are in this country illegally. If they are caught in just about any other country, they would go to jail and then be deported and not allowed back in. This country needs to get on the ball and start sending them back where they came from.
Yes. I don't think the term "Illegal immigrant" is descriptive enough. I think we should call them "Those bastards who think the law doesn't pertain to them and should go back from whence they came until or if they can learn how to follow the laws in America". That should about do it.
Sure, and maybe we should start calling drug dealers undocumented pharmacist. Or perhaps call a car theft an unauthorized driver. We might even refer to a rapist as unapproved sexual partner. After all we wouldn't want to scar the fragile little ego's of those who seem to think that the law only applies to other people and can simply do as they wish.

I cannot find a group that supports illegal immigration. Yet we cannot stop it. Now that is pathetic. So we must conclude that without saying it, some - many in America support it and do what they can to stop control of it. It would seem that this should be a target for midterm elections. Who does...

When you label someone an "illegal alien" or "illegal immigrant" or just plain "illegal," you are effectively saying the individual, as opposed to the actions the person has taken, is unlawful. The terms imply the very existence of an unauthorized migrant in America is...

Hoopla. Most of the people these days are trying so hard to be politically correct and refused to call a person who entered the United States illegally an "Illegal Alien" for fear of being branded as "racist". For me, if you're illegal, you are illegal. No sugar coating, no...
