Do you do "Fall cleaning" in addition to Spring cleaning?

For some reason, I feel more compelled to do a deep cleaning and purge in the Fall right before the winter months - probably due to the anticipation of spending so much time indoors which kind of bums me out.  Cleaning and ridding clutter seems to make the approaching winter more bearable.  Do you do fall cleaning rituals and why?

I do the same thing though I think I spend more time organizing than cleaning. I like to get all of our winter stuff organized before it gets to cold out. I like bringing out the winter arts and craft boxes, sorting through card games for the ones we haven't played in a while, and basically just reorganizing to make sure we are ready for being stuck inside. As fall ends I will clean the carpet to get all the pollen out of it from having the windows open so much the rest of the year. I also like to paint (If any walls need painting or I want a new color) in the fall.

I could see how a new coat of paint could perk up the house for the winter.  Organization and decluttering I think makes the home more comfortable for sure.

I do when I get the motivation.  There are things that I usually do once a year or every 36 months like defrost the fridge, going through clothes and donating what I don't want or what doesn't fits to the Salvation Army.  We usually have to rearrange one room for the Christmas tree, Plus get all the decorations and lights organized.

getting out the holiday decor can definitely be a good time to dig in and do some organizing.  I find I never get the motivation, I have to just do it smile

To get myself to clean I cannot read another chapter in a book until I pick up and put away a certain amount of items.  Usually I set it at 100, could be clothes dishes, scraps of paper that didn't make it to garbage bag and so on

Yes, fall cleaning makes much more sense as you get ready for spending more time inside.  Plus, I tend to be really busy in the spring so the spring cleaning gets delayed and delayed.  I'm at least a couple of years behind now!

Totally agree, most of what people do for "spring" cleaning I do on warmer fall days - opening all the windows, airing out mattresses etc.

Spring is usually my busiest work season, so I rarely do much deep cleaning then. Fall and winter are definitely my cleaning/organizing months. It just makes more sense to get it all done then, since I'll be indoors for long periods of time.

I feel the same, I am always on the go in the warm months, but in the winter a change of furniture and a deep clean make the cabin fever more tolerable.

I really want to do a Fall Purge!  I've been trying to sell things we don't need and get rid of clutter wherever I can.  I think it's because, like you said, we're about to be indoors for 4-6 months (I live in Chicago, so probably closer to 6 for me!!) and stuck amongst all the stuff.  It's also cold and flu season, and germs can hide in the clutter, on the toys, and in the dusty areas.  I want to clean everything!!  If I could only get up the motivation to get off the couch...

I live downstate from you a few hours, our winters aren't as brutal as yours usually but I know what you mean about extended time indoors! germs are another consideration too.

I tend to get in my deep cleaning in late summer...in anticipation of the fall harvest season, cooler weather, and the holiday season.  In the spring and earlier in the summer I am more focused on my gardening.
