The local county sheriff has just announced that the event that held most of the world mesmerized last week was indeed a publicity stunt.  I think that father will be going to jail, and fined for all the costs of search crews.  America, at the very least, is angry.

Not cheap, he might need to pay over $15,000 if convected to it.
(15,000 usd is the price of just keeping the helicopters in the air)

As I continue to watch this press release on CNN, it looks like the FBI may be brought in as well, and restitution will be sought.  I agree, pretty, it is terrible what they did for fame, and to the kids.  I am personally livid that I was on an emotional roller coaster that day watching and worrying about some poor child flying over Colorado at altitudes unthinkable.

Maybe the judge in this case should think outside the box and send him up in a balloon as the punishment

Looks like both the husband and wife were in on it.  I tended to think she was not.  Perhaps that's evidence of some Asian bias that I have.

YOU GO, UW, that's hysterical!  But now that she's going to be charged as well, she'll have to do her swapping in jail...

Did anyone besides me happen to catch them on Wife Swap?  The guy proved he is a butthole.  She just follows whatever he says to do, which was everything while he played weatherboy.

Yep, I knew he was behind it the minute I saw it.

Very sad...we wonder why todays children are selfish and disrespectful, the actions of these parents can almost show a picture of the values that have been instilled in these kids.
I hope the Judge really teaches these parents a lesson.  Perhaps CPS should be called if they haven't been already.

I heard that they are 'aware' of the situation, yet the kids are still in the house.  This infuriates me.  My God, I know that Social Services has huge caseloads, but this was HUGE!  And abusive.
GracieLinda, I didn't see the Wife Swap episode, but I thought the father's behavior was bizarre on TV.  The kids were so squirmy and uncomfortable on video that it makes me ill to think of what they were being told/forced to do.
