   Do you think Valentine's Day is just a way for the card, flower, and candy companies to make money?

      If you're married, there's a great possibility you've lost the romance so there you go...Valentine's day is for those in love or for those who need to be reminded why they were married at all! A surprise dinner with candle lights and a different atmosphere is usually the best in this occasion but let's be honest...anyone would doubt that flowers and candies are something most women or men get a lot from their partners. So, why not buying these as a Valentine present? For some people, Valentine's Day is one of the rare days when they actually get such presents...and if you read more about St. Valentine you'll see there is more to it than just love birds and gifts!

      it's not, but sadly due to capitalism it has been reduced to that.  which is sad because the rich traditions and stories behind the holiday truly make it one of the world's best ones that we all openly share.  however, i wouldn't be surprised if not too many people even know why celebrate the holiday.  hell, i didn't until about a few years ago.

      No, Valentine's Day is not a real holiday when you think about it, but it has become a day that reminds us to cherish our loved ones and show them we care.

      being a retailer, I would say in today's mind set, yes its just another way for corporate America to cash in on us. Should be a day for time together and loving each other, its not about the material gifts.

      yes because hardly anyone even knows the origins of valentine's day.
      
      on the other hand, it is a nice day to focus on romance and love and flowers and candy and valentine cards...

      My hubby thinks so too. lol hmmm i think your hubby and my hubby have been talking again habee!
      
      and yea to me yes but I think of it as special day to be together with your spouse even if you do do it everyday but it's nice to make plans for say a special dinner or something like that

   I have no objection to Valentine's Day per se. I think any excuse to spoil a significant other and to show some extra loving is good. What I do object to is the commercial hype of the day - all those dreadfully kitsch cards and the emphasis on spending, spending, spending. That, like the similar commercialisation of Christmas, is what makes me want to puke, not to put too fine a point on it!

   It started as something special.  It has since evolved into a holiday to make the greeting card industry more money. 
   
   It is up to the couples to make Valentine's special.

   Most holidays have become so commercialized. We don't have to fall for it and instead make our own little cards and gifts. Sometimes it is just easier to go out and buy whatever is on sale.

    I think valentines day is a special day for someone special to whom you love most.No matter what gift you plan to give your husband, wife or lover, hand write a love letter or a note of appreciation. Just Give some special to your partner that is memorial for her.

    I think Valentine's Day is the perfect day to renew our beautiful feelings and forget about daily routine. And its not the point to spend money on some expensive gifts to make the loved one feel special, you can only create an appropriate atmosphere, an unusual one. Actually, my hubs can tell you more about this.
    Love may include romance, infatuation, affection and tenderness. But even if those elements are not present, it could still be love.
    A lot of people will tell you that they are in love, or that they have been in love, but there is a huge disparity between one person’s definition of love and another’s.
    An unknown author once wrote, "Trying to bring pleasure to someone, because of the pleasure you feel to see that person's pleasure, is perhaps the most beautiful demonstration of love." Isn’t amazing how something so powerful can be found in the simplest of things. In my life I have felt love in many aspects of my life. I love my family, my friends, my country, my life, and myself. These are all the things I hold dear to me in all the choices and plans I make. To lose them is to lose everything!
    I really wish everybody enjoy this holiday!

    For all I know the Vatican had declared St. Valentine as non-existent. However, to the people all over the world, the non- existence of the  patron saint is immaterial as they refuse to stop celebrating Valentine's Day.
    
    What is important is, people are celebrating the reality of love- love between couples, between lovers, between a parent and child, among family and relatives, among friends, etc.
    
    We celebrate this occasion in the way we want to- some make it simple others extravagant, all lead to make our loved ones happy for just a day. It's up to us if we patronize commercialized gifts. Well, people patronize them- it's only for one day- so just let them be.

    Aww Habee your husband would HATE to live in Michigan! In addition to Valentines Day, they have another 'corporate holiday' called Sweetest Day! (More gifts, cards, candy etc!)
