Does anyone here love old black and white movies?

   I love to watch old black and white movies because these have wonderful acting and storylines.  Yes, black and white movies may not have all of the special effects of today's films, but actually this is why I love them so.  There were some very good actors back in the day, and I enjoy watching Turner Movie Classics many nights after work.  So how many people love old black and white movies like me?  Surprisingly I have discovered several movies from the thirties that have been remade recently.  There are always the ones that are obivious, but there were a few less obivious movies also.

      I'd say the same, but about South Indian Movies. I haven't seen much of b/w hollywood movies, but I'd love to watch them

         I am sure old black and white South Indian movies are fun to watch.  Hollywood ones are also, but I basically like most old movies.

               Sunset Boulevard (starring Gloria Swanson)
               Rebecca (Hitchcock)
               The Third Man (starring Orson Wells)
               12 angry men (Lummet) (for men only)
               The Maltese Falcon (with Bogart)
               Citizen Kane (starring Orson Wells)
               
               
               Not Hollywood but worth seeing could be:
               The Bicycle Thief (De sica)
               Metropolis (Lang)
               The Seventh Seal (Bergman)
               Rashomon (kurosawa)
               The blue Angel ( starring Marlene Dietrich) (As the famous scene in Cinema Paradiso, the copy of this film took fire when i was watching it in the theater)
               
               I used to watch movies in a black and white tv until the nineties too, and now I not sure if movies that I remember as Black and White really were B&W or if they were in fact in colour

      I love some black and white movies and definitely some older movies. One of my favorite movies of all time is "Gone With The Wind" and I love "White Christmas". Both are awesome movies and have some truly gifted actors. Hard to find actors like that nowadays.

   Yes, I watch black & white movies and usually watch them at night too. My favorites are science fiction, same of them have become hilarious, but others not (like Fritz Lang’s). But in general I watch all types of movies. Hitchcock of course allways will have a place in my list and I like John Ford's movies too.
   There are a lot of remakes too. I think that I have watched at least four remakes of Seven Samurais. Sometimes I wonder which movie out there has the "honor" of being the one with more remakes?

   My sister usually heckles me - "Gosh man, its a color tv. Color tv aint mek for black and white movie."
   
   To be honest we had a black and white tv growing up in the early 90's so I've watched a lot of pre-90's movies in B&W.

      We had a black and white TV in our bedroom as kids in the eighties/early nineties also.  We also had the color TV in the living room, but the black and white TV was actually fun to watch because it was a novelty.  There is nothing wrong with black and white TV's in my humble opinion.  Now I have a twenty inch colored screen TV, so I am probably one of the few people who has not migrated over to the flat screen TV's yet.

   The first time I saw "Casablanca" was manymany years ago.  Ted Turner colorized it.  I turned our TV's colors down to zip so we could watch it like it was meant to be seen.  Did the same for "The Maltese Falcon," too.  Much better!
   
   I also like (in no particular order):
   
   --  Anything Laurel & Hardy ever did
   --  Anything the Marx Brothers ever did
   --  Anything Charlie Chaplin ever did
   --  "Some Like it Hot"
   --  "Metropolis"
   --  "Dodsworth"  (great movie about infidelity)
   --  "Reefer Madness"
   --  Hitchcock's "Psycho," "The Birds," and "North by Northwest"
   
   ... and a whole bunch of others I'll remember the minute I go offline.

   I love them as well. The first one I watched was under the strict influence of my mother who said I would cry, of course I thought she was crazy for thinking her 14 year old would cry for a black and white movie, but she was right, I balled and still do every time I watch "Imitation of Life" and of course "Madam X"

    I love old black and white movies! The men were men and the women were dames! I love the clothes and hair, and the story lines are--I think--in general more original and better written than many movies today. I LOVE the old noir movies and the silent films too!

       I totally agree.  When I am in a romantic mood an old black and white movie hits the spot, and there are very few modern movies that can do this.  The fact men were galant and women were very feminine was always very intriguing, beautiful, and actually alluring.  I love how black and white movies leave room for myster without spelling everything out and putting everything out there.

    Every major entertainment market Music / TV / Movies is suffering froma complete lack of creativity...why?
    
    Because nobody wants to take a chance.  If they can't guarantee making their money back, forgetaboutit!  Tv is a cesspool where crap like 2&1/2 men actually has an audience.
    
    If Ducky & Charlie Sheen are two best comedic talents on TV, Grrr...??????

       Good point Jaime, but I think you as a DJ and many others out there prove there are still those who out there who take a chance for their art even if the profits are not in the millions.  I love All About Eve also, that is a great moive.  The others are good too, but All About Eve is my favorite on your list.

    yes, i love watching them too. they are really what they are. impressive, excellent storyline and very much entertaining to watch to. i specially liked all sophia loren's movies that she shot in between 40s and 60s. the bicycle thief is one worth mentioning.

    Anything with Bette Davis, Clint Eastwood, or John Wayne
    
    There was also a movie that starred Mickey Rooney when he was 12 years old and I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I think it was based on a Shakesperean play. I know it was the 1935 version. Can anyone help with that? I would love to be able to watch it again if I could just remember the name of it! Grrrr!

    I love Black and white movies too! I especially think the way they managed scary scenes was more effective. There is so much blantant shooting and death on TV/Movies now. It was so much better when they left more to our imagination.  I do not like Bloody movies, but did not mind scary ones from days gone by.
    
    Usually now when we use netflix we can look up the movies by actors/actresses and I will use that as a guide.
    
    Off the Black and white topic I do love the old Disney films too, but my kids do not think Hayley Mills is good at all and I really enjoy her.... so go figure!
