During my Personality & Religion course one of the topics we studied was the development in faith from infancy to old age in humans. One of the theories we looked at was Fowler's Theory of Faith Development, which is essentially comprised of 6 stages, the last 2 of which are not obtained by many (people like Gandhi, and Mother Theresa are in the 6th stage). In any case one of the characteristics of stage 2 got me thinking.
Stage 2 is the mythic-literal stage of faith development. Children at this stage interpret religious beliefs anthropomorphically, and literally - God and Angels are people, and Heaven and Hell are physical places.
That got me to wondering how the religious interpret heaven, and hell, and where/how they see them residing?
That's my question
Merci bien !
In our own ego.
Under attack by science that seeks out all the formerly 'unknown' places he has retreated to being 'everywhere' or 'everything' for those stuck at infant grade religion.
In a dimension permeating everything. This is reached on death.
i think this planet is beautiful. there is so much beauty. plus isn't God everywhere?
Yes god is everywhere but we are gods emanations, the physical part while god is spirit.
Our basic fabric is god.
hmm
i have heard some people say that we live in our own Hell here on Earth. is that what you meant?
anyway no need to explain. it's all too complicated for me anyway. me, I think Heaven is just sort of like a depot that we go to on our way to the next life. the 'depot' is really just our souls traveling through unbelievable places like star nurseries and places no human will ever be able to go and when we see it we are filled with wonder and unimaginable beauty and love. i don't think there is a Hell although i wish there was because some people like dog kickers and child abusers belong there.
We are in a painful dimension.
"When we finally come to our senses we never return to this material world, this painful playground we mistakenly call home." Krishna
Heaven is your source ,from where you have come and will go back to.the Light or god a state of absolute bliss.
wow. that would be nice to feel absolute bliss. i shall look forward to it
too bad we can't text people on Earth so they would know once and for all what lies beyond.
Yes but some like me come back and share this knowledge.
Both are in my bedroom, it just depends who you are
Stage 2 is where most people with strong religious convictions remain and then rattle on about the real places in their minds trying to convince us of their existence.
Heaven - not sure; leaning toward "among you {us}" (which is translated in the KJV as "within you").
Hell = sheol (in Hebrew), which means "grave" or "pit" or "hole in the ground." Being in hell means being dead and buried.
As I always said: "its not the place which will make you feel like heaven, its the people who will live in it..."
Rishy Rich
But I don't think our people are civilized & liberal enough to make it feel like heaven yet. Therefore until we evolve into a better species, we are bound to be in hell
Heaven is a comfortable place that everybody dreaming of living in.

Do you believe non-religious people, who lead a good life, are still going to hell? One of my biggest frustrations with religion is the idea that, how you live your life is of no consequence if you do not accept god. For example, John Smith is a good christian man who helps people, obeys the law and...

Why are there spirits roaming the earth? Does this means that there is no heaven or hell?

Are you afraid of going to Hell?I'm afraid. I'm worried I should be religious to avoid Hell, but I don't believe God would send me to Hell because I don't know what to believe. So are you afraid of going to Hell for all eternity?

Christians, If you sin and die 5 minutes later do you go to hell?So if you don't have time to ask for your forgiveness do you go to hell? Can your God forgive you and accept you into heaven even if you didn't get a chance to ask for him to forgive?

I have observed how we humans are consumed by our desire to go to heaven when we die! No wonder we have feel good preachers and political leaches who prey on peoples ignorance! How can you believe a theory that has never been verified!Based on the concept of who is going to heaven as written in the...

For the very many years I was in Church attendance, the Kingdom of God was always equated with Heaven. It was a future event that only those who believed in Jesus would see either when they died or were raptured, whilst the remainder of humanity would go to hell. A Christian could be disqualified...
