A recently heard speculation has ex-Rep. Cheney running for president in 2024—as an Independent candidate. The idea is to split the vote as Perot did.

One prompt for that thought was the huge war chest she has and how little she spent on her reelection campaign. The reasoning is that she would be a choice for moderate Republicans and Democrats that couldn't vote for either party's candidate.

I like the idea. It could be a step toward the creation of a legitimate third party.

Or a way to insure that the hard nosed Republicans and their beast of a party meets with defeat a' la Perot style.

        Correct.

There will be no third party.  There is no second party.

There are the DC insiders and then there are extremes to both sides of the party that are never allowed control, the wheel of time grinds up politicians but a select few are always there, always in control, always moving the country in the same direction.

Trump was an aberration, it was obvious, he was resisted by the RNC and Republican insiders when he ran in the Primaries... no Republicans in Congress came out to support him until his nomination was a certainty.

A record number of Republicans forfeited their seats in Congress in 2018 rather than seek re-election or support the rescinding of the ACA, the Border Wall or any key item of change Trump was seeking.

There will be no return of Trump, more likely that he and his ardent supporters be labeled threats to the nation and rounded up first.

I don't know, Ken, Ms. Cheney is on a crusade, a righteous one to avoid having her political party under the clutches of this man or any other person. Democracy and the rule of law is not negotiable.

She may well be motivated to start a third party for a reasoned principle.

Cheney is still far too conservative for my tastes. I vote democrat. So, I have to support her candidacy as a means of "divide and conquer".

For someone that is "resisted" by the establishment, there sure are an awful lot of syncophants in Congress who have and still do "kiss his ring".
As the case is made with the Cheney loss in Wyoming, fortunes rise and fall for Republicans depending upon your ability to kiss Trump's bum.

Trump is the Republican Party and it is a Party where I am not invited. There is a certain amount of Trump fatigue, but his ideas and concepts are not an aberration but has moved into the mainstream of rightwing thought.

Cheney will get no where on the National stage.  She is dislikeable and she is part of the corrupt club of DC insiders.

She will be a tool used to siphon votes away, if it seems she can indeed get a few percentages of support at least.  Otherwise she will be tossed aside, she has no future in the Republican party unless she moves to a Purple state, like Clinton's move to NY to become a Senator as a precursory move to run for President.

She has no future in Wyoming, I was surprised she got as much support there in the primaries as she did... was there an effort to get Independents registered for that Republican primary?

Seems to me that she passed muster with all the crimson red people of Wyoming for some time. Now, all of the sudden after she crossed paths with the "golden boy", she becomes a D.C. Insider, a 5th columnist.

She is determined to show the nation who Donald Trump actually is, and we have not heard the last of her.

With the Rightwingers' penchant for mayhem and violence, I hope that she watches her back

Anyone who makes their claim to fame "showing the nation who Trump really is" is politically finished... she is finished in Wyoming and will be a minor player on a national stage, at best.

The people who support Trump no matter what will despise her.

The rest of those independents, libertarians, conservatives, etc., want someone to lead and guide the country forward... and don't care to hear about Trump or his supporters are.

With Biden at the helm, the "down with Trump" mantra won't hold much water with most Americans.

That comes across as awful childish. or small minded: "We have plenty to torment the Republicans about".

As society burns down around you, as inflation continues to make your dollars worth less every day, as we push toward WWIII your biggest concern is the sorry game of American politics.

Today's headlines are of a mass mob ransacking a 7-11 Store, with no repercussions, teenagers beating a cab driver to death for no reason, a McDonalds worker beaten to death over cold fries.

                    Whatever.

Her conservative politics/record would be a stretch for many Democrats to embrace. I admire her courage, integrity and principles but she'd have to moderate her position on the political spectrum before I'd seriously consider a vote for her.
Although I do have to admit I like her pragmatic approach and realism.

I do think plenty of dark cash will quickly come her way. So, she may have the cash to make a run.

Why would dark money be attracted to Liz Cheney??
But on the flip side Mr. Trump bombarded his supporters with more than 100 emails asking for money based on the FBI’s search of the Mar-a-Lago Club for classified materials last week. They paid off.

Contributions to Trump’s political action committee topped $1 million on at least two days after the Aug. 8 search of mar a lago.  The grift is in full swing.

It is my view that Cheney could attract dark money due to her passion to rid the world of Trump, she in my view is walking on the path alongside the Democrats to rid the world of politics of Trump.

The political arm of the Democrats wants Trump out of politics and let's face it they are always open to dark money and could certainly help promote Cheney as a baseball bat to beat Trump overhead. Some of their dark money could find its way into her war chest. Note I did not comment on whether she would take it. I have no idea if she would. However,  Dems are well known to take dark money, and perhaps they would share it if Cheney could not support a run.

"Democrats Decried Dark Money. Then They Won With It in 2020.
A New York Times analysis reveals how the left outdid the right at raising and spending millions from undisclosed donors to defeat Donald Trump and win power in Washington." https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/29/us/p … onors.html

The Hill ---  Democrats topped GOP in raising, spending ‘dark money from undisclosed donors in 2020: report

"Democrats reportedly outpaced Republicans in raising and spending so-called “dark money” from undisclosed donors in 2020, according to a new investigation from The New York Times.
"The Times found that 15 of the most politically active non-profit organizations that typically support the Democratic Party spent more than $1.5 billion in 2020, while 15 similar groups that usually side with the GOP used about $900 million."
          https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5 … ed-donors/

Politico ---  Liberal 'dark-money' behemoth funneled more than $400M in 2020
The Sixteen Thirty Fund sent the cash to groups that aided Democrats' efforts to unseat then-President Donald Trump and Republicans' Senate majority.  https://www.politico.com/news/2021/11/1 … und-522781

Yes, Trump does have a rather aggressive request for cash. He is good at raising money from supporters in small and large amounts. This does say something about the number of supporters he may have.

It is clear that many will support Trump, and hope to have answers about the FBI raid. We are looking for facts on what precipitated the raid. It once again is a case that has accused Trump of wrongdoings, and now is looking for evidence. Accuse, let the media run with it, and elitists condemnation. Then punish without facts. This is unfair, and unAmerican in my view. And IMO Americans need to stop this form of persecution.
The Democrats have used these scummy tactics for many years, and it's time to put this kind of politics to an end.

Trump is a big threat to the Democrats, and it is clear they will do anything to try to stop him.   Thus far they have not indicted him for any of the many accusations of crimes. This should clearly make some stop and evaluate what the Dems have tried to do for the past years Trump has been in politics.

They claimed they would get him on taxes, they got his taxes, there was no there there. They said he was colluding with Russia, no there there, they tried to impeach him twice... Maybe wake up and have a better look at what the Dems have perpetrated. And are still trying to do.

The Democrats in my view are dirty, they deal in scams, and lies. There is a long trail of scams in regard to going after Trump.

We said our pieces, let's not screw up GA thread with all that is Trump...

As my comment stated I feel -  Interesting, too soon to think about it. I am still recuperating from some of the names she is being called on social media today. Some are even biblical.

I'm secretly hoping she will go for the Christian principle of an "eye for an eye"
At this point, we all know she doesn't need money.  Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Let the games begin.

"Eye for an eye" -- you may have missed something, the Jan 6th investigation. She certainly has openly shown her rath for Trump. It appears she has paid dearly for trying to gouge out Trump's eye. She is the one that at this point needs the patch.

Not sure about her funds, I did read she spent little on her failure to keep her seat in Congress. So, it would stand to reason she has some cash.

Hard to predict what is next for Cheney, I am sure we have not seen the last of her.

It won't be to create a legitimate third party, or under any belief that she could win.

As you say, like Perot, it will be to pull votes away.  If they feel it will insure no return of Trump, and it will help keep Biden in power, they will do just that.

      1. GA Anderson profile image86

Yep, it won't really create a legitimate 3rd party, but that thought was just polite 'cover,' for not stating the obvious purpose —pulling a 'Perot' to keep ex-Pres. Trump out of the White House.

“That’s a decision that I’m going to make in the coming months, and I’m not going to make any announcements here this morning. But it is something that I am thinking about, and I’ll make a decision in the coming months,” Cheney told NBC’s “Today” early Wednesday when pressed on if she is thinking about a White House bid.

I think that seems to be the plan.

Cheney added to that speculation in her concession speech on election night, asserting “now the real work begins.”

“So, I ask you tonight to join me. As we leave here, let us resolve that we will stand together — Republicans, Democrats and independents — against those who would destroy our republic,” she said at the end of her speech.

“They are angry and they are determined, but they have not seen anything like the power of Americans united in defense of our Constitution and committed to the cause of freedom. There is no greater power on this Earth and with God’s help, we will prevail,” she added.

In an interview she said the same thing.

"I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat and risk to our Republic. And I think that defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of republicans, democrats and independents. And that's what I intent to be a, to be part of."

And based on this video, I think she's not alone.

    https://youtu.be/RhGLrprDGTs

Rep. Kinzinger: "The republicans have become cult".

It is a good watch. But if you only interested in their plans, check watch from minute 8:20.

    cheney's political future looks grim.

I suppose she could run for president as an independent.

I told you before, she is hated as despised by those in the Republican Party.  If she does run for political office again, cheney will probably have to run as an independent.

The Democrat party doesn't want her.

Her best hope is that someone who likes her is elected and appoints her to a position.

Why would a woman be despised for remaining consistent in her convictions and views?

Liz Cheney's opponent, Harriet Hageman once made the following documented statement about Mr. Trump, describing him as:

“racist and xenophobic,” and and the “weakest” contender the Republicans could put forth."

But now she's all aboard the MAGA train?  At best, the woman is a disingenuous, pandering flip flopper.

Sadly, she's not alone. I could fill a page with past  seething comments about Mr Trump made by the likes of Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Kevin McCarthy and more.

Remember when Mr Graham called Mr Trump  a “jackass,” a “kook,” “a race-baiting bigot,” and “the most flawed nominee in the history of the Republican Party,”?

And when his now good buddy Ted Cruz said the following,

“I’m gonna tell you what I really think of Donald Trump: This man is a pathological liar. He doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies. He lies practically every word that comes out of his mouth, and in a pattern that I think is straight out of a psychology textbook, his response is to accuse everybody else of lying.”

Courage of conviction  is not a Hallmark of the MAGA party.

All I can tell you is in the world of politics it is "That was then, and this is now." It's how it works.  President Donald Trump burned a lot of top Republicans when he beat them to get the nomination for the Republican party.  So, comments like these are not to be taken seriously.

It's a different world today.  President Donald Trump has proven he is more conservative than the most conservative Republicans.  He won a lot of faithful followers because his time in office impressed many Republicans. Combine that with the insane non-stop persecution of him by the Democrats and he is viewed in a whole different light right now.

Harriet Hageman made that statement in 2016. Is it possible she may have changed her views after she became more acquainted with Trump, and the job he did as president?  You know people do change their minds after getting to know one close-up.  Trump won over many citizens I am sure after they considered his job performance and not just media rhetoric.

At any rate, if you want flip-floppers to look to all the ones on the debate stage with Biden...  They all had a field day at Biden's expense. All being very truthful, and slamming him with the truth of his past.

".At best, the woman is disingenuous, pandering flip-flopper."

Really, would you like some examples of pandering on Harris?

They all do it, do they not?

I know that I am arriving late to this party, but what never ceases to amaze me is how some of the once most hated on the right, are suddenly now heroes to the left! IF and when, (and depending on the level they've turned it up to; for the Cheney's, red hot) they turn on Trump!
Makes me wonder, how broad, how colorful, the deep state really is?!?

For anyone who doesn't believe the Republican Party has become so extreme and fascist: this just in from the Kingdom of DeSantis: this is one of the candidates for the state legislature.

A Republican Florida state House candidate who wants to legalize shooting federal agents said Friday that he has been banned from Twitter after posting his platform on the social network.

Republican Luis Miguel told Florida Politics on Friday that he received a message from Twitter informing him of his permanent suspension.

“Under my plan, all Floridians will be able to shoot FBI, IRS, ATF, and all other federal troops on sight,” Miguel wrote in his tweet, which was screencapped by Miami-based filmmaker Billy Corben. “Let freedom ring.”

God save this country from what Mr Trump has unleashed upon us.

Trump has not endorsed this man, nor is Trump responsible for this man's words.  I have never heard Trump encourage killing anyone be it FBI or DOJ or IRF.  he has shared his opinion on violence as a whole, being very opposed to violence.

The Republican party does not share this man's views either. This is a free country this man has the right to run for office, the voters have a right to vote for him or for the other candidate.

I would assume this man has little to no backing from the Republican party.

It seems you feel you have the right to just blame Trump for anything you choose. In my view, this is unfair and odd.

I can agree the country is in need of saving, it's doing very poorly at this point. Hopefully, Americans will right the ship with their votes in Nov. and 2024.
