I read that since 1940 the United States has given Israel $114 Billion Dollars. That seems to be a fair amount of "support".  And what do we get in return?  Snubbed?

Hillary Clinton handed them a check for $800 million last summer.  And that was under the Obama Administration.

    Hmmmm

    Interesting.

Maybe it's time we stop the money give away and start with Attaboys and leave it at that.  I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy about keeping American Dollars at home.

The evidence of Israel's brutality against the Palistinians in Gaza are pretty well established. The policies extend to curtailing food and medical supplies to one of the most impoverished areas in the world. I have no problem with steadily curtaling the flow of aid and military supplies to Israel while they pursue these policies.

At some point, the citizens of Israel will wonder if they can win a protracted battle against enemies that Israel is making even MORE bitter. At that time, relations between Israel and the US can improve as relations between Israel and a Palistinian state improve. Until then Israel should know they will have to handle any fights they pick - without US support.

It has been prophesied that Israel will be without aid at it's most critical moment. But, THE God, who  so many people here reject, will be her supporter asnd defender.

The US is only hurting itself abandoning Israel. As for the conflict, it will continue, till the seven year peace treaty is estalished.

You cite religious sentiment as a condition in a political arena.  That does not prove a point with the secular argument that Israel has caused a lot of grief by its own hand.

Do I believe Israel should exist?  Absolutely!  But I do believe it should exist on its own merit and not through an benevolent benefactor?  Absolutely!

As Israel and the United States has proven, You can't buy your way towards a moral highground when the techniques are through heavy handed war ladened diplomacy.

I believe that if the likes of Hamas stopped indiscriminate rocketing of Israel, it would be a completely different world in Gaza & elsewhere.

Though Israel may not do everything "just right", much less satisfy every critic, they just want to be left alone.

Palestinians were offered every concession they demanded, but chose to reject the offer, and fight on. What hope have you got when the goalpost gets moved just as you are about to score?

You may find it a bit curious, but God is actually interested in politics. (Probably a whole lot more than religion).

I heard almost exactly the same thing a couple of years ago from the Palestinians about Israel - in almost exactly the same words.

To be fair the problem appears to be almost insoluble.

"Palestinians were offered every concession they demanded, but chose to reject the offer"

I think this statement is what is at the heart of the matter.  The Palestinians are also after a peace but with the ecroachment of Israel on their land and economy Israel has smothered them and ignored their protests.  Not only has Israel ignored the Palestinians cries but their US benefactor as well.

There is an air of bias in your statement as your claims that God is interested in the politics of the region.  Is God only interested in the Jewish solution or is there room for a Muslim solution as well?  The use of God in the political makeup of the conflict only compounds the divide between the two camps.  Respect for each side is what is required and as long as one believes the other is wrong there can be no peace.

Well obama should be about due to have caused the BP oil to empty it's guts into the sea off your coast by now.

What's wrong with you guys, you know Obama caused it. Look at his name! His birth certificate!
His kids are black from standing under oil wells! He is the anti-christ I tells ya!

Watch carefully as obama gets a pass on his Katrina. I doubt Kanye will be on TV having a breakdown and claiming obama hates black people... I doubt Farrakhan will be on TV claiming obama blew up the oil rig on purpose or any such nonsense.

      Hyper-hypocrisy time.

Mr.Obama cannot be a terrorist, as he is fighting with the terrorists against the terrorists in the South Asian region. If one terrorist (Afgan) is eliminated, another one (Pakistan) will come up and anyway, Obama will see the hell soon. Better he rid himself from both.

Barack Hussein O'Bama reminds me a lot of an old cars salesman.  sure, he'll tell you EXACTLY what you want and need to hear, so you'll trust him....  However, the first chance he gets....he'll get behind all of you and royally f*** everyone up the a**!  Figuratively speaking that is.  For those who took that metaphor literally, then you seriously are one sad person.  sucks to be you if you took it literally!  hahahahaha!

For anyone interested in an answer to the question I suggest "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy" by Mearsheimer and Walt. Their answer to the question posed above is that Israel's policies are not good for Israel and our relationship with Israel is increasing terrorist actions against the U.S. Mearsheimer and Walt are both supporters of a secure and independent Israel, but they are quite critical of the current Israeli settlements policy and it's treatment of Palestinians. They claim that the Israel lobby is one of the most powerful lobbies in the U.S., and that it has influenced U.S. mideast policy in ways that are not in our national interest. For example, the book documents in some detail that the Israel lobby and the neocons were the biggest factor in our foolish, costly invasion of Iraq. Many think our motive was oil. Mearsheimer and Walt say the biggest factor was the efforts of the Neocons and the Israel lobby. Israel's threats to attack Iran are also worrisome. Anyway, my answer to the question about Obama and Israel is a very firm NO.

Harvey, your claim that Obama and the Democrats are "destroying Israel" is wildly off the mark. The Democrats have been and are strong supporters of Israel. Israel is by far the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid. And what do we get for it? Our VP is insulted on his recent state visit to Israel. And the largest military and commercial spying operation in the United States, according to Mearsheimer and Walt, is Israeli.

Oh my god...so funny that you say that...

"The flaming eyes intensity of the Other Blitzers at the official channel of the opposition, Fox, will ratchet up several notches as the news readers begin to feel the blood engorging their pindars in anticipation of the beautiful horrors awaiting their lust for death and religious confrontation. Their shining eyes will seem to seek out viewers through the 1080 HD screens as they too shout the rallying cry of ‘rise up evangelical and fundamentalist christians! Rise up! Killing time is here! Be ready to die for our beloved israel!’"--Cliff High, at Half Past Human.

Weird synchronicity huh? Although his was written on April 21.....although...2+1=3!
