If you have blasphemed the Holy Spirit on one occasion are you doomed to hell or can you be forgiven if it was just a moment of anger in doing it?

I've read your hub titled "We are Forgiven!." If you reread it you'll probably find the answer there, in your own words.

      Good luck and God bless.

Yeah, and never blaspheme dragons and unicorns either, or you're doomed!

      What are you calling blasphemy?

edit: The God I worship is not interested in torturing his creations for eternity, BTW--the word we translate as "hell" in the Bible was originally the word for "grave" in Hebrew.

I think Christ rather values a good competition and challenge.

This statement is conjecture based. There is no blasphemy, because the "Holy Spirit" for which you speak of is an imagined story. smile

So, I have no need for asking for forgiveness, because I have done nothing that needs forgiving. smile

This would only make sense if God was petulant, capricious, huffy, sulky, a pouter, a tantrum-haver, and so on.

If God created humans, then he designed our minds/brains. He gave us common sense, rationality, and logic. He endowed us with an uneasy feeling of "I cannot accept that" when something does not mesh with common sense, or logic.

If God is all-compasssionate, how could he possibly damn someone for this? Not logical.. some heavenly Father, otherwise!

I will let Jesus peak on the subject.

Mat 12:31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Mat 12:32  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Mat 12:33  Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

I would rather spend eternity in hell than with you guys. Although - I see you have resorted to threats in the name of Jesus like aquasilver prefers.

You must be very, very angry that some people do not believe.

Do you think threats of eternal non-forgiveness will do the job that pictures of dead babies did not do?

unless Jesus was very very clever and invented the recording machine some 2000 years ago , you are not letting him speak at all?  You are quoting some guy who is quoting someone else who translated something from a spoken word related to someone else.
Hmmm now let me see if I got that right or not! hmm

"Me and my father are one". Jesus
All can be forgiven but one will still need to burn out any negative karmas by doing good deeds.Sooner or later all will go home to the light. All is the Light.
To abuse someone working for the Holy spirit or god is asking for trouble, the cosmos like nature can be merciless.

as far as i'm concerned, all those who throw around the word "god" the way so many christians do is blasphemous. his name isn't god, anyway. his name cannot be spoken in words anymore than his essence or nature could be understood by man.
BUT, as i believe in a higher power than your christian god and that i make my own rules, so to speak, well, god dammit. i can say that. without fear of hell...or any retribution.

besides, earth is that which you term hell...and heaven.

  4. goldenpath profile image68
    goldenpathposted 14 years ago

If one receives the light of truth with it's accompanied law and authority and then altogether turns from that light that is the true sin from which there is no forgiveness.  If one continues to blaspheme, as you have illustrated, you will probably not be ushered to the pearly gates but rather you would be assigned to a glory befitting your own thoughts and actions.

Seems like you have created yourself a world view where you are getting a one way ticket downstairs however you live your life.

Hell is a human invention designed to keep people in line.  If you truly believe in an all-loving, omnipotent God, do you really think that they would invent something as cruel as hell?

Chill out and enjoy yourself.  More likely to put a smile on any God's face smile

Thats the God I believe in!
The one who made all this cool stuff so we could enjoy it. If there is a sin its in ignoring all the wonders there are in favor of being angry at life. According to MY beliefs there are atheists who enjoy life and try to help make it even better and they are living closer to my beliefs then those who believe that God wants them to be bitter and angry or full of worry and fear. Life is too short for that stuff.

This is perhaps my favorite quote...

    1 John 1:9-10
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
