  I did a google search on earth quakes a couple of weeks ago and was suprised at the increase of them (7.0 and stronger) through out recorded history.
  Acording to the sourse I found...There were more recorded in the 20th century than all before that. And more in the last ten years than in the 20th century.
  Makes ya wonder???
  What if earthquakes become more common that a rainy day?

  Google recorded earth quakes. You will find that there were as many earthquakes (7.0 and greater) recorded in the 20th century as were recorded in all of history.
  You might say that all of the earthquakes were not recorded through out history and that may be true.
  But in the past 10 years there have been as many as in the entire 20th century. Just a thought.

  Hi earnest... You are correct BUT When is the frequency going quit increasing. How many more disasters will there be before all that we can do is say that's too bad, There will be no relief fund cause the last 24 disasters took all of the relief that there is to give.

  The big question. I guess in time, mankind will stop building cities right on fault lines, and the world will look a little different. The planet will do whatever, we need to work with the planet, if we grow cities over the top of fault lines or in tropical surge zones the carnage will continue.

  Many countries now have the nuclear bomb. Russia doesn't know where all its Uranium and radioactive materials are. We are poisoning the waters, we are poisoning the air, we are cutting down all the trees. We have leached the nutrition from the very soil so that foods are not as good for us as they used to be. There is war everywhere...and you think the human race is going to last-on its own-for a million years???
  
  ETA: I forgot to mention all the animal species we're killing...AND moving around to places where they don't belong. Take a look at what's happening to the bees right now...if we don't fix that little problem, we are SCREWED, my friend.
  
  I'd be surprised if our race lasts another generation given the destruction we cause and what we're willing to do to ourselves.

  Well it isn't as though I'm running around with a sign that says "The end is nigh" and screaming or anything. Yeesh. I'm just pointing out the truth of the matter...Religion aside, any arguments about God aside..We ARE doing a damn good job of destroying ourselves. It just seems obvious to me, but I'm not terribly bothered by it, to be honest. I'll just live until I die, which is all any of us can do anyway.

I don't see what beheading and "terrorism" has to do with "the end"...

People write as if these things just showed up one day last week or something....

I don't see what either of these things has to do with this thread....

Religionists would rather have an "end to this evil world" than see the facts.
They would be right then you see, and all the evil people like me who don't buy their flying sun god will be tortured and punished.

  I was watching the news as they awaited the expected Tsunami in Hawaii. It is sad that people don't realize there have been numerous times in our history when cataclismic forces spreading mass destruction happened on the same day, just that there was no media to report it as we have today.
  
  As an example I submit the Chicago Fire, caused by a cow, this site shows other fires that happened also on October 8th 1871 with completely different sources.

I agree, this planet is very much alive, and if mankind upsets her balance too much, she will shrug him off like a scab!

The world is full of disaster all the time. I wiped out an entire city of ants accidently last week, I do not make comparisons between the rights of any life form, the planet does that to suit itself.
I only have enough brain power to understand a tiny bit of my brain, I am unskilled in speaking the thousands of languages our animals flora and insects speak, and have no way of knowing if a whale is smarter than me.
As an aside, if the Japanese continue to kill whales for "research purposes" they better come up with some whale answers fast!

  Yeah cuz whales don't forget, they pass their knowledge for miles and miles to each other, and to other creatures in their family such as dolphins. That being said, I have always wondered if they beach themselves because they can understand us and think in all of our "intelligence" that we will understand them if they hold a "Sit - in" about their plight. Notice it is often a group of whales that beaches themselves, not just one.

  I agree with this. Science still has no solid answer, and I guess one thing will prove up. I bet they are a lot more intelligent than we have given then credit for.
  I hear a blackbird calling the family back together each evening, and the number of different "words" he uses is amazing! Surely he does this knowing he will be understood. A beautiful language, I wish I could speak it!

  Yes and I am stuck with the neighborhood parrot whose owner only taught him half of a song. It is sad as the owner goes to work and the bird sings the half of the song over and over until the owner returns home. I am waiting to hear the rest of the song.

Eric our Eclectus parrot does not speak english, and has no need of it. If you don't share your toast he screeches at you! Very effective! He gets down on the floor and threatens any animal, dog or cat that doesn't know him.
He is totally unafraid and wins every encounter because he struts right up to them, displays his powerful beak then screams at them from about an inch away! At the same time, he pumps his wings at them like a huge fan, while exposing his talons!
Nobody messes with big Eric!He is 9 years old now, ( life expectancy at least 50 years) and he is very funny and smart.
He shows off like a teenager, and we have to use lock nuts on every bolt in his cage or he disassembles it for fun!
We have dogs, cats, fish even, and all of them seem smart to me.

  I am one of the crowd who believes what I believe without forcing my beliefs on others. I have been reading my Bible as a matter of course my whole life. If I decide to go against scripture and teach what I believe I am in danger of h*** if my beliefs are wrong and cause someone to stumble. Of course h*** is only the grave not Dante's imaginary tormented place so many preach of today. But that is my interpretation, I do not believe Dante was a latter day prophet.

  May hap a read of what I believe, that humans need to believe in something, or the fact that my first hub is who am I to say, or that my actual belief system is spread among the works of great minds that truly have been in place since the foundations of "religion" before posing an attack on my beliefs would be iin order.
  
  I believe that as I am not perfect, nor a "god" nor a "goddess" nor am I a "prophet" I have no agenda to impose what I believe on others.
  
  I entered this forum to meet up with my good friend Earnestshub. I saw Lyrics here too. As others had apparently chased away the original poster I lost track of the thread. When onusonus came back seemingly enraged I tried to appease his anger with some requisite (hugs), after which Cagsil took me to task. I said my piece, offered the requisite hugs, and now, dear Mark, who I have recommended your writing to others, and you take me to task...

I think the end of mankind could result by an enemy with a bomb.
I also know that there are two black holes getting so close to each other they could become one. If that happened there would be ripples throughout the universe which could cause major damage.

Plus each day, any of us could die.
