aliens existence is inconclusive..but presuming they exist , again there are two possibility..they r inferior in development cycle or are more advanced than us..if former is true..they dont know that we exist and so can't think about us..if latter is true..i dont know whether they would see us as their future competitors or would help us..

We marvel at our own intelligence.... with that said, do people pay attention to the ants walking at their feet when they walk into a store? Not really, and it's doubtful advanced aliens would see us any different.

      aliens don't exist.
there is no scientific or religious proof they do.
but, we could put paper bags on our heads, have a few more pints and hitch hike our way to the next door neighbors and have a really great BBQ.

When called upon to demonstrate proof of their gods existence, believers will often offer up everything around them, everything they can see, touch and hear as proof of their gods creation, hence his existence.

They will also offer up spiritual or divine intervention and experiences as proof of their gods existence.

"Just look in the mirror, you are proof of gods existence"

All this powerful "proof" of their gods existence at their fingertips, yet the very thought of alien lifeforms existing in the universe couldn't possibly be justified without the same kind of absolute religious proof.

And that proves aliens exist? Ha!
The reason sensationalists can't prove to you Creator exists is the same reason you scientists cannot prove Creator -and even now- whether or not aliens exist.

And should you -by your own mouth/typing- say aliens do exist, you have completely contradicted the methods of science you hold so mighty against your better half.

I never did or ever will make the claim that aliens exist.

However, with the knowledge and understanding that there exists so many potential solar systems with planets that have the capacity to maintain life, one can certainly opine there is a very good possibility other life forms do exist in the universe.

And this is precisely the lack of critical thinking that is limiting human ability/progress. Which is more noteworthy: to be concerned with creatures and bodies beyond our planetary reach or fully immerse into knowledge/understanding of who we are and the world lived in -land, sea and sky- before galaxy hopping? And I do mean every individual human.

The Ism has spent the last um-teen thousand years staring into the sky while a magnificent species of plant, the size of a dust bunnie, was just stepped on by them, to get a closer look at that sky...

If you believe in religion then Adam was the first alien kicked out of heaven because heaven is some where in the outer world. If that is true then we are the aliens.

If we are not the aliens then whenever we discover each other, I think it will be a surprise for both aliens & humans.

May be they will laugh on us or we will laugh on them.I don't know if they are intelligent or we are more intelligent.

Highly intelligent aliens would likely consider most humans as cancer cells and avoid them like a venerial disease, because many humans are screwing their own planet and might risk infecting other worlds.

Don't get me wrong, though, some of us humans might make good pets.

see sooner or later we would expand..already we have space station ..we might end up being in another planet , say 1000 years from now..who knows we may expand to another galaxy if all goes right..we are prospective competition for aliens..for aliens too , if they want to stay earth is good place to be with needed infrastructure..only thing required is their ability to survive in earth environment...if they can figure out that , it would be beneficial for them to choose earth for staying than say saturn , if need arises..same applies to human of future too..isn't it?

but again this are speculations based on assumptions that aliens exist and are in advanced stage of development than humans..

It seems as though in the past (think Mayans and Eygptian cultures) that aliens have somewhat helped the human race to advance through agriculture and technology. There are hundreds of discoveries and old text that talk about gods coming down from the skys and helping ancient civilizations to advance in knowledge. Interesting discoveries like the bagdad battery, the dropa stones and ancient pictures and carvings of planes, light bulbs, etc. lead way to the belief that aliens would most likely help rather than destroy us.

I have always wondered wht would be the ultimate point in the evolution stage? Depending on that, our alien friends will act accordingly. Theres a possibility that An Ultra Advanced Alien race will be busy with its own experiments to find the meaning of life & creation or reach the level of God/ the perfect state. I believe it wont have the Time & will neither bother with the existence of inferior, primitive species like Homo-Sapience.

    1. ceciliabeltran profile image66

its not about hierarchies, its abt responsibilities. They will realize that with their knowledge & power, their responsibilities are much higher & they should not waste their time with primitives like us. Its just like Einstein or other famous scientists whose wives often complained that their husbands love their lab rats more than them smile

    2. starvagrant profile image67
starvagrantposted 14 years agoin reply to this

You seem to miss the point of evolution, from a scientific stand point. There is never a perfect state. There are only organisms adapted to today's conditions and organisms that face extinction through natural selection. If human beings are "advancing" why is it that war, plagues, famine, poverty, cruelty, torture, greed etc. are just as rampant as they ever have been?

  7. wilderness profile image96

I don't think they would laugh.  If space is crowded with aliens (not many unoccupied planets available) they would destroy us and take earth.  If aliens are rare, then maybe help, maybe destroy.  I like to think mankind would help in such a case, but it's not reasonable to think aliens would necessarily be the same.  They might just be hungry, or might be so advanced we are little better than termites are to us.

Hawking also said that given the barrier that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light and the sheer distances involved in inter stellar space travel unless we or they plan to go on a one way trip lasting several hundred generations we will never meet one another.

      1. Beth100 profile image68
Beth100posted 14 years agoin reply to this

But how does he know factually that the aliens are not more advanced that we are in technology?  It's an assumption that they have the same intelligence as us and it's also an assumption that they are carbon based.  If they were not carbon based (after all, they are aliens and we only know about our own world) they may be more evolved in intelligence and have an ability to travel great distances without any effects on themselves.

        1. Merlin Fraser profile image60
Merlin Fraserposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Beth,  I think the assumption that most life in the universe will be carbon based is is based upon the fact that it is the most common mineral found in space.
But you are right up to a point they don't necessarily have to look anything like us and could just as easily be plant based or waterbased Etc.
However no matter how advanced or super intellegent they are they face the same basic fundimental drawbacks that we do and that is it is in physics nothing can travel faster than the speed of light full stop.

To travel faster than light would mean traveling in time not space.

However even it were possible to exceed the speed of light you would have to exceed it many fold just to get anywhere at all.

Oh Yes, I nearly forgot, if you travel at that speed you would be blind....
You would be unable to see what was coming towards you because any forward looking sensor like say radar would not work fast enough  to get out and back to you before you had either a0 passed it or  b) Hit it.... HARD!

The asteroid that wiped out the Dinosaurs was only going at about 20,000 mph when it hit us.

Can you imagine how Pissed you'd make our neighbours hitting them at the speed of light ?

If the "big bang" is factual, then all life in "our" universe would be, relatively, the same age.
Since environment determines that which results from the processes of evolution, to my way of thinking, regardless of the "form" of the life or the extent to which it has evolved, there shouldn't be that much difference in the "progress other life has experienced when compared to that of us.
It should be as difficult for "them" to traverse "our" universe as it is for us.
We can only write science fiction novels about life that may exist beyond "our" universe and what their response would be if they came into contact with us.

I have very little knowledge of out universe; So please bear with me for a moment for my question.   But ??

It is my understanding that there is but one universe with many solar systems.  It is also believed that stars are constantly being born and colapsing. I believe that the same is said of solar systems. Do we know how many solar systems there are?
Was our solar system the first or last to form?

And    Science says that all life on earth has become extinct on a number of occasions, asteroid impacts and the Ice age.
It is also believed that the earth has turned on it's axis at least once??
Would it not be impossible to say that there can not be other civilizations millions of years older than ours.

I am aware that science has guessed how old our solar system is.  Is this the same age as the Universe?

I usually don't repond to you. You are on my "list." :-)
"It is my understanding that there is but one universe..."
        Why would that be?
What is there beyond "our" universe? If our universe continues to expand eternally, what is it expanding into?
Who is to say that "ours" in the only "universe" in "space?"
"Would it not be impossible to say that there can not be other civilizations millions of years older than ours."
A few million years is but a blink in geological time. Even if other alien life existed a few million yrs longer than us, it could still be considered to be as primitive as extant human life.
"I am aware that science has guessed how old our solar system is.  Is this the same age as the Universe?"
        Of course not.
Our universe is about 13.7 billion yrs old.
The earth is only about 4 billion yrs old.
The age of our sun is only about 4 1/2 billion yrs.
Who is to say that life doesn't exist if other universes exist beyond ours, in an eternal and endless cosmos?

my personal opinion.. if there are aliens, they most likely wont think like us, react like us or see things in anyway shape or form like us.

so they most likely could care less about our religion, our use or disuse of a planet.   it might be a curiousity for them.  heck they might love pollution.

I doubt they would help us, or harm us since we really couldnt at this stage pose any threat to them, and we would always be technologically behind them.

maybe we are nothing more than a sociology study on semi intelligent primate society development.

their definition of Intelligence might differ radically from our own.  a Semi Hive mind would never really understand a species where each mind is independent of the whole.

an alien species might treat sex like a handshake and find our  sexual mores strange and unsettling.

or they might themselves believe they are the product of a god and all other tool using species are just Demons out to supplant their place in the universe.

its inane to impose our frame of reference on a species( assuming it exists) that wasnt raised like us.

If Aliens arrived on Earth it would probably be a result of destroying their home planet.  No point traveling through space for a hair cut, right?  So, if they arrived here, they would probably stop for fuel and try somewhere cleaner.

Y'know, aliens that showed up on Earth might not be the shiniest pennies in the bank.  I can drive a car, but I can't design or build one.  So, just because an alien could reach Earth in a ship wouldn't necessarily mean he/she/it is some kind of genius.  The alien probably didn't build the ship, it just pushed some buttons to make it go.  Aliens we might find arriving on Earth might be the equivalent to us sending a monkey into space.......

Or worse - the people who adventured out into the new world when we developed our shipping phase of planetary travel were self-serving, vicious, moral-less, bigoted adventurers, saturated in their bigoted religions and the worst thing that could have happened to the peoples they came across and ultimately destroyed.

      Good luck earth !

On (our)past experience and record, the behavious of those who came, would be that they saw us, and decided we were not worth their consideration, after which they would herd us, kill us and uses us as slaves, taking what they found to be of value (to them) and infecting us with all sort of vile diseases we had no immunity from. sad
