Why don't people put their pictures up instead of other things?

you would like to see a claw, tooth, fang etc. I'm sure - but, no, dude - I don't come to these forums to argue inanely about absolutely nothin!  I just come here to goof off, say clever little things, flirt with the sheep, watch tantrum try to get angry, watch you turn different shades of far right conservative purple, and see what kind of semi-porno some of the guys can come up with.  In general, most of it is not that interesting, but when I want the illusion of people around me it will suffice.  Be a good boy, Harv, and make friends with some people who don't agree with you - that's a challenge!

For me personally, when I get on Hubpages and write, I take on a personality.
My hubs (thus far, since thus far I've only done movie reviews, though I do ultimately plan to branch out into music and then into non-media stuff like sports and pets and such) are a bit crass, a bit cocky (well, a LOT cocky) and it's this personality I get into.

It's fun, but I don't want to become "the jellydonut" in real life, so I use it like a personality...kind of like a method actor...

I have only one reason for using the image of Bing Crosby on his Postage Stamp: To promote Bing Crosby whose wonderful voice and personality were universally hailed during his lifetime but have been largely forgotten now -- more than 30 years after his death in 1977. My photo, for anyone who cares, appears on a couple of my hubs.

I know I've said this before, any pic can be copied and used to build profiles and ID's elsewhere sometimes for malicious purpose. Every little detail you post about your personal life puts you more and more at risk. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I know people that have been victims of malicious cyber attacks, and I know MOST people here are clearly worthy of my trust and I have no problem sending them a pic if they ask.

    1. Springboard profile image82
Springboardposted 14 years agoin reply to this

You bring up an interesting dynamic in today's high tech world which didn't apply so much before, and that's that your likeness can easily be compromised or used in ways you may not otherwise appreciate. I've even heard of people who have had their professional lives affected in one way or another when certain pictures found their way into their boss' hands via the Internet, Facebook, or other such source.

Privacy is still something of value, and I can appreciate that.

I don't wink Who or what I am is neither here nor there. I like it when folks use their own picture but as I said before, it's a matter of personal choice.

I don't think nothing either way when someone chooses to use a non-personal picture. And in some ways, I identify hubbers better because of their avatar. It's like a signature with some people.

And look at Misha. lol he changes his pic like a woman changes her underwear. Well ... almost as often. But the thing is, that's Misha. He's like a lego brick - interchangeable lol

I think a picture other than oneself makes a statement just as valid as one's actual picture. I like looking at the images people use to represent themselves. It says even more about them.

It may be an ego thing, but it helped my performace and I connected with the audiance. In clubs I tried to make everyone believe I was singing to them. Ok, I'm very confident. I still had to back it up.
