Good speech - good advice - good president - that's my opinion.  If we really have to hear O'Reilly later, and some of us HAVE to, it's wonderful to have read the text ahead of time. So thanks for posting this Ron.  Let them have their big freak out over presidents speaking to schoolchildren- extra revenue that way!

Yeah Mr VooDoo or Ron I didn't think you would have offer any solutions other than "retard" A tactical nuke has never been used so no one knows if it could be a deterrent or not. Why get into a fight if you have no intention of winning it? We did it in Viet Nam and it seems we want to continue fighting a more "kind and gentler" war, good thing Truman wasn't a pussy or we may be still fighting it!

Now put up a picture and continue talking about things you know nothing about, maybe your Obamagod can snap his fingers and make it all go away.

I'm with you Ralph, but as no one seems to have obliged your repeated calls for facts, I feel I must try.

FACT: November 1988, President Ronald Reagan delivered a televised speech to students. In that speech he compares American democracy with that of other countries, the American revolution and "brutal, totalitarian dictatorships".

FACT: In 1991, President Bush made a televised speech to school children. He was accused by democrats of using political manoeuvring. Democrats called for the General Accounting Office to investigate the cost and legality of Bush's appearance. The GAO found no impropriety had occurred.

FACT: 13th August 2009 In an interview with student reporter, Damon Weaver, the President announced he would be making a national address to school children on September 8th 2009.

FACT: September 1st, 2009 Republican Party of Florida chairman Jim Greer made a press release about the President's intention to address school children.

FACT: In that release he stated

FACT: September 2nd, 2009, the White House released a media advisory stating that President Obama will "deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success in school"

FACT: At the same time United States Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, stated the address will "challenge students to set goals, work hard and stay in school".

FACT: The Department of Education also released classroom activities for children to "address and stimulate classroom discussions about the importance of education".

FACT: All classroom activities optional. None mandatory.

FACT: Schools where invited to show the address. Showing was not mandatory.

FACT: The Republican Party of Florida did not offer any evidence that the President's speech refers to socialism, health care, banks, automobile companies, increasing taxes or national debt.

FACT: The Republican Party of Florida went on to raise concerns about the proposed classroom activities.

FACT: None of the classroom activities mentioned socialism, health care, banks, automobile companies, increasing taxes or national debt.

FACT: 3rd September, 2009 One item on the classroom activities was amended. Originally it stated "Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president." Now it states "Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short–term and long–term education goals."

FACT: 7th September, 2009 a draft of the President’s remarks was released by the Whitehouse.

FACT: No other drafts of the address have been released prior to 7th September 2009.

FACT: 7th September, 2009 Jim Greer states the speech has been changed from that originally intended. He also states he believes "the speech [the President] was going to give based on the lesson plans is different." When asked if he has any evidence of this he states, "No I don't."

FACT: No evidence has been presented to suggest the address made on 8th September 2009 was altered in any way as a result of comments made by critics.

FACT: Only one item has clearly been changed, the wording of a classroom activity. There is no evidence that anything else has been altered as a result of recent criticism.

Those are the facts as I understand them.

Lets lighten the mood with an old joke which has been all around the net for years:-

A sailor in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and says, ''Wanna hear a MARINE joke?''

The guy next to him replies, ''Well, before you tell that joke, you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs, and I'm a MARINE. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2'' tall, weighs 225, and he's a MARINE. The fella next to him is 6'5'' tall, weighs 250, and he's also a MARINE. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?''

The sailor says, ''Nah, I don't want to have to explain it three times.''
