About 25 percent of all herbal medicines does work. The only problem is that very little is known about their side effects.
I'm just throwing it out there for anyone who wants to take it but I think this would be a great hub topic...or topics ![]()

I think that fact is what made me stop taking them. I used to take echinachea (I know it's spelled wrong) and a few others, st. johns wort for a while and although they seemed to work, I didn't want to become dependent on them, so I stopped. I just eat healthy, exercise, take vitamins and try not to take any medication unless I absolutely need it, which at this time I don't. I realize I'm fortunate.
My housemate has a degree in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, so yes, I've taken a variety of herbal medicines that work.
The trick is to see a trained professional, not use folk remedies that you make up yourself.

I used to work with a woman who took it and she said it helped, but I had read about the side effects and didn't think it was worth the risk. I think Americans are too quick to pop a pill to fix their lives. look at how early we start kids on drugs? ![]()
It's about 85% hooey. Peppermint does really sooth a sore stomach. Honey is good for a sore throat. All those gazillion dollar supplements...nah.

that is probably very wise. now there are herbalists and homeopaths who know how to dispense it.
when you think about medicine, it is derived from plants and herbs, earlier times, people used the plants from the land.
I think there may be a difference in "medicine" which as I understand it is to fix a problem that has already occurred or "preventative medicine" which is to ensure the problem doesn't occur. I agree with "PG" for fixes but I've used a fair number of natural products for preventative measures since my diet is not what it should be.

Very true but thankfully mom didn't get addicted to it. She never remembered to take it so she gave up taking it
And yea it is sad how early kids are given drugs. ![]()
