A friend of mine owns this - an old church in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
We spent a couple of nights there recently.
Absolutely mind blowing.

Well, being a Pastafarian, it was strange to be surrounded by so many stained glass windows with religious themes and not a strand of fettucine in sight.
And above our bed was the biggest, most enormous stained glass window of them all.
About 8 metres high, and 5 metres wide.
Above the bedhead was a very intricate carving of the last supper.
And I spent a lot of time looking at the roof tree, some 20 metres above our heads, and wondering at the skill of the long gone craftsmen whose skill at joining timber is enshrined forever in that beautiful structure.

Mark;
"I bet you believe you have a job all lined up in the afterlife - Standing at the gates of hell saying -
"See, I told you so."
Actually, I have little idea how exactly that part will go. I certainly do welcome hearing "see I told you so", though. That statement will pretty much suffice for all, though, I agree. I doubt if I will be at the gate reading the names in the Book of Life. I would like to hear "rejoice, see I told you so" said to you all, rather than "sorry, your bus is over there."
I do not think there will be any arrogant, insulting behavior at that gate. Oh perhaps a few will still stand in rebellion, but it will likely be very, very few. There will be no need anymore for me to try to help straighten out the lunacy that I perceive is often found here. The truth will then be known.
I do not wish for anyone to ever face unpleasantness, Mark.
There is far more than enough pain here.
Well, excuse me if I throw a little doubt on this statement. Having been the recipient of your kind words down here, and watched you dish out unpleasantness to anyone who disagrees with your rather archaic interpretation of your book, I cannot imagine it would be any different up there.
Or do you go through a 100% personality transplant when you go to heaven.
Mark;
Talk about a cheerful disposition. You always want to start a fight, but then when a good person takes you up on it, you cry like a little baby. Just so everyone will see what I mean, I will just pass on your insults. It is a shame that everyone but a few Christians are so scared of you that they always applaud your behavior. You all may think it is just fine, though, to say such things as "kind words (sarcastic), dish out unpleasantness, archaic interpretation of your book" and wonder about a personality transplant. Well, weel, we do not have a double standard here, do we folks?
No personality transplant then? I was nearly going for the whole thing. Could have been the deciding factor.......
It's not a "personality transplant" you get "up there".
It's a "character transplant" you need to get down here!
You must sleep with your computer.
No No, you are "omnipresent.
No it is not even midnight.
I am researching - trying to find the proportion of Option-ARM and Alt-A mortgages that are due to reset in 2009, and which banks are most exposed. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
"If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."
- Bertrand Russell

The comics are humorous, but say a lot.
Well someone wrote about the teapot and insists it DOES exist so it must.
Says it right there on that website. Therefore any rational, open-minded human would take that as the word of god. I may even give up my belief in the flying spaghetti monster. Although the two are not mutually exclusive.....
You all are way too funny. All that kept popping into my mind last night was a teapot in space floating around---and *I* could see it! hahahahahaha
I read this hypothetical in A Brief History of Time...or was it the God Delusion? I can't remember, anyways... how is the statement even fair? I mean, firstly it says that you cannot see it even with the most powerful telescope, while God can be seen with the naked eye.
Not all affirmations are because of a 2grand old book either. Some call these things phenomenons that can be explained. Others call them miracles, other call it a momentary lapse of sanity or schizo...
While other just say, well I didn't see it so it doesn't exist. It is true there never was a God but the person who has seen God say, yes God does exist I saw God, either way, the non believers seems closed minded or malice and the believer looks crazy and desperate. lol
Then the non-believer says no you didn't because there is not God and you have been fed garbage your whole life therefore I know that what you saw was not God. Then the believer says, what the hell were you expecting me to see?
None believer says, God. The believer scratches his head...and what do you suppose God is supposed to look like? The none believer says, like a large man with a white beard and tan skin...
Then Family Guys next episode happens to be about an old muslim man with a white beard named God of course in their language it is pronounced Jod.
So then the non believers goes, oh God duh and again the believer says, like I said, what were you expecting?
This would be my take on god's existence:
My Take On God
I published a Hub about god that I based on my studies in the past. It was quite easy to do and took little thought. After i was done with the thing I was a bit ashamed of what I had written. Some would say that that is the " indwelling spirit of christ " . I say it was the three day old guacamole.
"As everyone will agree - there is no certainty until you are dead - that's when you find out what's true and what's untrue - for sure - and I suspect there are a lot of disappointed people out there. big_smile"-by Mark Knowles
Mark Honey, I am disappointed with how you DON'T practice what YOU preach!!!
I just had to check out this post of 1747 replies. Wow! Apparently this is some great subject matter. Well done Mark.
Yes Paraglider the depiction of hell that you quoted is in Mark chapter 9 three times. It is also described in Isaias 66, Jeremias 17, Ezechiel 20 and Proverbs 30 from the Old Testament or Jewish Bible plus many other places in both the Old and New Testament. It is the same in the Christian Bible in Europe. I'm not sure how Muslims describe it but I know they also believe it exists. In fact many cultures and religions believe hell exists.
Seeing you brought it up it truly is a frightening description of hell, isn't it?
It is possible that you would not have heard about this description of hell if Christians did not take their time to kindly post about it in these forums. You may not see it this way but to me that is showing love.
Mike
There IS NO spirit world! Don't you know? There IS no God, don't you know? There IS NO afterlife, don't you know? If there WAS a Loving God, He could never create such a place as Hell, let alone send anyone there. This type of teaching is offensive, don't you know? You can't provide any proof of it, can you. This world is ALL there is, don't you understand?
Purely rhetorical, and sarcastic of me, but THAT'S exactly the message this thread is full of.
Good on you MM for continuing to remind (those who refuse it) all about the truth of the Word. Not all of it lovey-dovey, sugar Daddy stuff.
I've known about it all my life, having read the bible quite a few times. I stand by what I said - it's a foul belief and probably psychologically damaging to those who hold it.
It's funny how you say that aka-dj but true. Coincidentally today I was thinking of starting a thread on demonic possession but then I thought it may be too much for some in these forums. But what you said reminded me of this one web page that I looked at today called Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil. Although this page is fairly mild the webmaster of this site does give this Warning before reading any of his pages. Some of the people that frequent these forums would be amazed at what they claim causes demonic possession, especially in threads like this.
we are as human kind, we like to have rules, governments, courts, laws to control our own life; even you, you are here thinking about life and you try to have your own rules to control your life; how the this perfect system that we have, there is no God behind all of these?!!!
At all there is a God for us if we like or not we will come back to him in the end like kids come back to their parents; all of us we will believe in him in the end but we wouldn't be equal in love and prizes; and this is up to u, and your choice, no body will choose for you or carry your sins except you; good is good for you; bad is bad for you.
we are in our way to God to Our father....
No god, no hell. Hell on earth is putting up with arrogance and ignorance from the ignorant-by-choice religious who are damaged by all the fear promoted by their religions, and talk fear based nonsense!
religion is simple; it's just a way of life to live right and in peace with yourself and others without harm for anyone, it's our choice to be with God or whatever go to hell.
we are not perfect; but religion doesn't have nothing to do with any ignorance act; it's just lack in understanding religion or lack in faith.
God exist in yourself and in our lives, and one day we will see Him clear, and we all of us could have same belief in God; But, the choice now to believe in God or not; it's God test for us and our pass for His love.
we do not judge the religion by us; but, religion judge us...
so, we need to have good faith in God before it's so late.
There are many religions, Budhism and Jainism, for example, that skirt the issue of God altogether.
These religions don't bring God into their theology at all; but concepts like ahimsa (non-violence) are central to these religions and these have much of the trappings of God.
God the reason for any exist; and whatever you live this life; you will die soon or later, then you will know how small you are when you meet Godand see the truth clear more than seeing the sun in the sky, and God will send every mind game and disbelievers to hell to taste the meaning of their exist....
because God is fair; and we are exist because of Him..
Mark is true - Atheism is a side of the coin.
Once you start saying "God exists nowhere", you will end in saying "God exists now here"... saying that this is the other side of the coin
I feel Atheists are the best people to have a chat to as they are the ones who will keep on saying "No where" and when answering them, (as we will be aware of God's help to answer) we will keep on confirming our faith in "Now here"... so keep going...
Ah. Very philosophical. What a shame you are interested in the "later" rather than the now here. Otherwise you would show it instead of talk it. Perhaps god could help you with that. Oh dear - no where no help act as you do proving the no where not the now here. Thank you.
Dear Mark,
I always believe in the fact "Now here" and have experienced too and am sure you too might have ..
Atheism is simple. There are no scriptures to memorize. No ambiguous statements to battle over. No oaths to take. Anyone could become an atheist and any atheist could cease to be an atheist. There is absolute freedom. They can oscillate between a belief system and theirs as often as they would like to, but they don't!
Atheists can bathe as often as they want to. They have no appointed leaders. They rely on themselves. In fact they are cool dudes! ... and clever too!
hey your hub is really nice and i really liked it i found it very interesting and think that you have done a great job. good going.. keep it up....

How can atheists improve their image? For whatever reason, the mainstream theists in the U.S. have trouble separating average atheists from the extremists in the news. Not all atheists want to watch Christianity crumble or start their own dictatorship. But how can we spread the image of a more...

Is Atheism really just another religion or faith based concept? It seems like the notions that there is a God or there is not a God, are both founded in belief because there is not proof either way. Well there is proof, but not conclusive in either direction. So aren't organizations with set forth...

Has being an Atheist ever caused you problems in your life?has it made people reject you or treat you differently ?

Well like religion, i think atheism too varies from atheist to atheist..what is the standard form of atheism, its purpose and strengths over religions??
by Cattleprod Media 14 years ago
I find most people are clueless. They say they are atheist, but can't properly form an argument as to WHY, or they say they are agnostic, with zero clue as to WHAT that is.Ignorance, above all, is our weakness. Not religion. Although ignorance and religion are good bedfellows.
