Venezuela’s reputation as the world’s beauty pageant powerhouse is further cemented. This oil rich country made another scintillating breakthrough as one of its elegant lass captured the much coveted Miss Universe 2009 crown before a jam-packed crowd in the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas, which was viewed by an estimated one billion people around the world.

Venezuela’s Stefania Fernandez, an 18-year old stunner gave her country its second straight win and sixth title overall in the beauty pageant that attracted 84 participants all across the world. The Venezuelan model, dressed in a very fabulous and captivating red gown, hugged runner-up Ada Aimee dela Cruz from Dominican Republic and jubilantly dance her sweet victory.

Rounding out other winners are Miss Kosovo, Gona Oragusha (second runner-up), Miss Australia, Rachel Finch (third runner-up), and Miss Puerto Rico Mayra Matos Perez (fourth runner-up).

Compatriot Dayana Mendoza, the 2008 Miss Universe winner, excited with the results, fumbled and dropped the crown that is embellished with jewels to the floor. She eventually place the crown on Fernandez’ head as she whispers “You made it” and gave a very compassionate pat on the back of her countryman.

This is the first time in Miss Universe pageant that a contestant from the same country won the crown for two straight years. It is only the United States that has bagged more titles. The US already accumulated a whopping seven Miss Universe titles.

The Miss Universe winner will get monetary prize, scholarship grant worth 100,000 USD to study acting in an academy in New York, a vacation package to Bahamas for two in five days, jewelry set and a complete wardrobe.

The judging panel evaluated each of the delegates in three different categories, swimsuit, evening gown and the very tough interview.

Beauties from Czech Republic, France, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States made it to the top 10. Interestingly there is no Asian that was chosen in the top 15.
