   I would like very much to become a better writer to create fiction for children.  I've done a few, but when I read the work of other writers, I realize my stories are not all that great.  I must say I have done three that I am proud of.  I'd like to take a course in creative writing.

   Non fiction stories because you really do have to work thrice as hard to make sure your facts are rock solid. Articles tend to write themselves. Fiction can be semi-based on reality and mostly this is the case. The great banquets in the Harry Potter novels, for example, make the most sense when you realize that the writer when she was putting together the first book was not living well. She was on the poverty line and food was an issue. When I make up a town nowadays, and its to be in a locale I am not that familiar with, I will do a google search to make sure a town with that name doesn't really exist anywhere in or near that locale.

   I think writing articles is the most challenging for me because I usually get sidetracked and find myself writing off in tangents.  So I will usually write something then read it a few days later to edit it.

   That's some question Cardisa, and for me there is only one truthful answer I must share:
   
   To be able to find and sit in that ultimate writing venue, that place where I am one with  myself and in harmony with everything that's around.
   Since I have concluded and I am quite sure that writing is my life, and also my future in this life.
   
   It is of maximum importance to be in the very best environment for my chosen career.
   If writing is your promised land, it should also be in that ultimate environment, because in this world in which we live, to most people success is measured in $$$$. Where as to you the writer, it may be quite different. I hope it is .
   
   So there are quite a lot of unfriendly environment that could be quite distracting and disturbing.
   I am pretty close to that destination, where I can summon the best that's in me,  and I am sure it's there . I know so!
   
   
   Thanks for that question Cardisa, it made me think little harder, of that which I know I must find real soon.

   Creating fiction. I have no idea how to be creative in articles. Mine are all based on fact and information. I love reading creative articles and fiction and admire those who can make the stories come alive.

   My biggest challenge is finding the time. With a family, one of who is a 3 year old, and two jobs, finding time to write is sometimes fleeting.

   I agree with several of the hubbers who have provided answers, especially Doc Snow...making any of them pay.  But also, for me, somedays is just simply beginning.  Like most writers, I have no shortage of ideas but sitting down and beginning when so many things are pulling for my time.  And I do have to say that writing fiction is a challenge.....it is going on in my head beautifully but when I sit to write it never quite hit the paper the same....lol

    I work from home and oftentimes, it is hard to stay focused instead of getting up and doing things around the house, etc.  I am an "early bird" so I usually get up around 5 a.m. and I find that is my most productive time.  I have my little ritual of lighting a few candles, I light some nag champa incense and get myself a cup of tea.  This helps me to get into the creative mode! 
    
    One of my other challenges is the fact that I am a perfectionist.  Rather than to continue writing my rough draft, I will go back to edit over and over again to "get it right".  This is not only time consuming, but counter productive as well...maybe I have a touch of A.D.D.?!

    Writing articles. I need to find research from reliable sources, then structure the article in a logical way that moves from point to point. Writing fiction is so much easier for me.

    Right now I am writing about my experiences and doing a few recipes. Writing articles is something I would like to try. Trying to figure out hubpages and how to make money at this is taking up a lot of time.

    Fiction is the area I find most challenging and could use the most improvement. Creative non-fiction is my strength.
    
    Usually, when I write fiction, little nuggets of true life experiences find their way in in some way.
    
    Maybe it's like that for all fiction writers?

    I have been writing articles since 8 years. It takes few hours to write an article, including research and related reading. I love to do non-fiction stories. One hour interview session  with the subject and another hour to write, the story is complete. I've started a novel but I'm finding it difficult to complete even after 4 years. I think writing fictions is challenging. Having said that I find marketing my works more challenging.

    Ideas keep coming to me but the challenge is to bring clarity in my message while writing.
    
    What is the use of writing something when you leave the reader all confused thus, be able to convey the message in simple terms is a BIG challenge.

    Fiction is hard because I have trouble creating characters that are interesting and dynamic. I can create or think of stories but it's hard to form people in my head.

    At first I thought that creating fiction would be harder, because I'm not that imainative. But, I've done it several times; letting one's imagination run wild has a freeing effect.
    
    Non-fiction requires reporting of facts, but very often, UNDERSTANDING of those facts MUST be included before you can weave a story out of it and convey what you'd like to convey.
    
    So, in answer to your question, I find non-fiction more difficult. The writing articles is what i do after I collect the non-fiction fact. I weave them into a story that the read would like.

    I need to focus more. I want to write and be better than I am. I feel like my writing doesn't compare with all these writers that are so much better than I am. I want to write more about child abuse maybe to help people to be more aware.

    I would also have to agree with Doc Snow...anything paying would be good.  The biggest challenge for me seems to be completing "useful" and "knowledgeable" articles that seemed to get Google-ed by millions of people.  I tend to turn them into creative writing exercises that get Google-ed by nine people...by accident usually.  .

    The biggest challenge for me is making up my mind about the subject matter. Having begun a 'chain' of articles - fiction or non-fiction - I take it in turns to drive the chain further. The process of choosing which of the chains to drive is almost like tossing a coin! I have to be selective, and I have to be fair to the 'audience'. There might be some following the Hunding saga, others the railway model-making, and yet more awaiting another travel item... That reminds me!
    Only joking - although this has set me thinking about another speciality travel piece. It's about time. Other than that I've got to put in some more pages on the 'RAVENFEAST' saga series; 'OUTCAST: Storm in the Kingdom' needs some more work doing.
    Marshalling research is a task in itself, and channelling the subject matter in rotation - still, the beauty of these Hub pages is being able to go back and tidy up the copy or make it more readable.

    I don't have a lot of trouble creating fiction; I do have a difficult time coming up with a plot line to engage the reader throughout the story and then crafting a strong ending.  Poetry comes to me most easily. Also, I find that writing articles and non-fiction stories are "writer-friendly," since there already is a base, the facts, on which to build.

    Writing articles, especially for sites like this which are competitive for views or for blogs for the same reason.
    
    I don't write often, which is often a negative in today's online world, and it's hard for me to come up with something useful/interesting day by day or such and still have it substantive and informative (and worth even existing and using someone's bandwidth on).

    Writing stories I find the most challenging. You have to bring the reader to you with just a few words and a picture and then try and keep them engaged until the end.

    My problem with writing is being Perfect! the first time. I over analyze what I write and then by the time I re-write my article I have lost my original point and reason for writing it in the first place.
    I find the issue with articles is that you want to cram all the information you can into it to be thorough, but when I don't have my purpose clear in my mind than my article will reflect that.
    Because articles are meant to be short it is challenging to make them gripping enough grab a readers attention and want them to read more of what you write.

    Fiction, for me, is most difficult. Though poetry is my comfort zone, I find that what I do write about somehow relates to my experiences or that of someone around me. To develop a story with detail to keep it clear is often hard for me.

    None of the above. For me personally it's not neccessarily what kind of text I'm writing, it's more about getting stuck on words and paraphrasing.
    Often I'll write the same word twice in one sentence, or you'll find a lot of "thats" and "becauses" in my texts.
    I have only one hub that is popular and its all about theory on the devil. I find it challenging to write something "popular" as I write what I think and feel at the time, I dont follow trends. When I did try to follow trends I found that I was writing cold articles that weren't enjoyable to read.

    Fiction is easily the hardest, because anything non-fiction is just research, write, edit and re-write.  Fiction requires characters to be cared about, a setting that sets the mood and being sure to tell the story amid the details in a dramatic fashion.  It's a whole other ballgame.  However, it's a challenge I enjoy.

    I find creative non-fiction to be the most challenging for me, but they all have their own challenges because they each have different motives and objectives. When I have to write about something I don't care about, like a school paper, that is where I struggle the most.

    The major problem is not the idea. It is putting them in an order that will not confuse the reader and finding an ending that resolves or keep the suspense.

    well, all those are quite challenging. But for me, writing short articles are way easier. I've wrote fiction, and it is much tougher than the articles. However, I think the most difficult to write is Non-fiction, since you have to gather the exact happening and information/data.

    Hmm, at the moment, I find writing articles the easiest, probably because that's what I spend the bulk of my time doing, so I'm in shape, so to speak. Non-fiction isn't too bad, either, since it feels a lot like an article that's just run amuck length-wise. (In fact, I'm working on a series of books of writing prompts for bloggers/journallers that I'm planning to release as e-books - it was one of my 2011 projects but looks like I won't get them out until 2012 unless I really get off my rear.) 
    
    But fiction, that's where I struggle. Which is funny, because writing fiction is originally what inspired me to try my hand at professionally writing in the first place!

    Its not the free flow of thoughts. Its the SEO part that is difficult. I hate having to change my writing to optimize it for search engines. Then again, I want to have visibility so more people would read my article. So, I guess it might be a necessity. However, when its not a topic that is already by forte then I have trouble with writer's block. Perhaps its a particular spot that always works. I sometimes have to wait until the wee hours of the night to actually get my head rolling. Otherwise, I can sit for much time without much thought. Its annoying at time. I just realized that you are better off waiting for those awesome moments and start writing. Rather than sit there waiting for a thought to surface. I jot notes to make sure I don't lose a thought. Great question. Learned so much from answering the question. Ah, my insightful moments have arrived.

    I am answering my own question after 17 months. I write both fiction and articles but I find that in any given day I may be able to churn out 10 good articles if I put my mind to it. If I already have the facts and the mind to do it I can write 10x1000 words per day. However, though fiction is my specialty, I cannot seem to get out 10,000 words per day. The most I have written in one day for fiction is 4,000 words. So the conclusion fro me is that fiction is harder to write because when it comes to articles you already have the facts laid out in your head. Fiction you need to find in the recesses of your mind.
