Hi Phyllis, thanks for the welcoming! You don't know how much it means to this Squidoo orphan.
Let me introduce myself. I'm the Mom of a Jack Russell Terrier. She appears sometimes in my writing. I'm disabled (a form of arthritis which ravaged my joints in my 30s). Writing and my online haunts help me fell connected to the world.
My main passion is genealogy. I started my research in 1989. This evolved into a volunteer gig in AOL's Golden Gates Genealogy Forum as a Portuguese genealogy moderator, resource writer, and "Rainman" coder (akin to HTML). When the forum was eliminated we made a go on the web, but several factors ended that project.
In between, I started a Portuguese Hawaiian genealogy website through Webseed, which eventually fell through, too. (Noticing a pattern here...) I taught myself HTML and learned how to run the website myself. I'm still at it after 13 years. I eventually added a general genealogy blog so I could discuss work on my other lines.
I originally joined Squidoo to expand my writing horizons. I was eager to branch out into different topics, but didn't have an outlet. I joined their RocketMoms group and started moving out of my comfort zone. It was terrifying and exhilarating all at once.
I have a variety of interests. I enjoy talking walks with my dog, nature photography, spending time with my nieces and nephew, feeding my genealogy addiction, reading, board games, and more. My arthritis makes a lot of things difficult and I've had to learn to be adaptable. I don't always succeed.
Truth be told, I was exploring HubPages before the announcement was made. So rather than going forth gently, it is with a firm kick that I've started my adventure over here. I like what I see so far and I'm looking forward to a positive experience.
Again, thanks for the introduction!
Hi Melody (MelRootsWrites), and welcome to HP. You have quite a full plate with so many interests. I think you will get on quite well at HubPages. I wish you all the best.
Because there's no way all multi-hundred lenses of mine are all going to start drawing traffic at once, I am not worried about having to unpublish a lot of work.
Remember, we want Google to see where the new stuff is, and being that this is a slow time of year for traffic, with Labor Day weekend being very sparse, I expect to just leave things live and edit my way from most popular on down.
Thanks for the warm welcome Phyllis. I was CherylFay on Squidoo; now Jerzimom here. Hoping the transition isn't too harsh. It will be a new experience here on Hubpages.
Hi Cheryl Fay. Transitions can be tough on us, but have faith in yourself, take it one step at a time and I believe you will be just fine. Best wishes to you.
Hello hubbers,
I'm Rhonda Lytle on HP now for the transfer from Squidoo and was Poetvix here before that. I look forward to seeing something new emerge from the merger. Best wishes for everyone!
Hi Rhonda. I wish you all the best at HP. This is a fun and supportive community.
Thanks for the welcome. I was on Hubpages previously under lakeerieartists, now again. Should be a wild ride. Is there any other kind?
Hi Paula and Rhonda. You have both been here before so welcome back. It's a great place and I'm sure you will get the hang of it again quickly.
Hi Paula and welcome back. Hope all goes well for you.
Thank you for such a warm and kind welcome. I am so happy to have found this forum. I have been writing for Squidoo for almost three years and have approximately 90 lenses to transfer. To be honest, I had lost interest in Squidoo over the past year. Most likely due to the fact that it was simply too challenging to keep up with the ever changing rules. This transfer seemed a bit daunting at first. However, everyone here really seems to be so positive and helpful. I truly am looking forward to being part of such a wonderful community.
Hi Clairissa. You are welcome. Any transition like this is very daunting, but once you get into it, it can flow smoothly. Just keep faith in yourself and embrace the challenge. Best wishes to you.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Phyllis. I've only been over here on Hubpages for a month or so, but I'd like to also extend a welcome to any fellow Squidoodlers. I have about 90 lenses as well, although I really only care about 30 or 40 of them. I will be sure they are published and have the highest content possible. This is win-win.
You are very welcome, Andrew. I like your "win-win" outlook. I wish you all the best here at HubPages.
Thanks so much Phyllis! This is my second account due to the Squidoo/Hubpages merger. But I do really like your welcome.
You are most welcome, Susan. All the best to you.
Thank you, Phyllis, for the warm welcome. I have been writing for Squidoo for the past 7 years (joined Squidoo in 2007). Had over 428 lenses to transfer. Most have been my writings about my passions -- Oceanography and Marine Biology, Photography, Foods, Tropical Destinations, Foreign Languages, Aircraft, Computer Software, Writing, Teaching, and Animals/Nature. Because I've always enjoyed sharing what's available out there for supplementing what I write about, I've always had a lot of links to books and other references available on Amazon and eBay ... the struggle facing me now may be to clean all those links out to comply more with the Hubpages rules. I'm hoping I'll be able to do this fairly quickly -- and I'll have to fit it in between my regular job, my lengthy commute, and sleep. *sigh* ... Thanks again ... I'm looking forward to becoming a presence on Hubpage. :-)
Hi Dave and welcome. Boy! you have a lot of interests and a lot of work ahead of you in the transition of your articles. Have faith, take it slow, and you will succeed. I have been there myself and had over 500 articles to revise and republish when I left BellaOnline in 2012. I have been here at HP for four years now and some of my old articles are still waiting for the right time to reappear. I wish you all the best at HubPages.
Thank you for the welcome. Little nervous about transferring my pages. They get a lot of visitors on Squidoo. I'm a bit concerned though because my misdiagnosed miscarriage pages are link heavy and link back to actual stories that women have shared on my site. Not sure they'll make the cut.
And, so I remain hopeful but nervous.
Welcome Cari, best of luck with the transfer of your pages. HP are giving you all an amnesty period so that you can work on getting your lenses to meet the guidelines here. It sounds misdiagnosed miscarriages would be an important topic so if there isn't more than one or two links to the same site on each article it should be ok. At least the site owners put something in place so that you could transfer your articles before pulling the carpet from under you.
Thank you. The links are such an important part of those pages because they find the stories that most match what they are going through and then can read what they went through and how it all turned out.
I'm thankful for the 'grace' period so I can figure out what to do with those pages. They aren't about money for me so I just want to host them somewhere where they'll still get Google traffic and can help women. I'll leave my non-Misdiagnosed pages here because they don't have that 'link' problem. I'll be curious to see how they do.
Thanks again
Hi Cari. I can understand your concern on the misdiagnosed miscarriages articles. I hope it all works out well for you. Welcome to HP -- I wish you all the best.
Cari Kay, you could leave those misdiagnosed miscarriage pages here but have them link out to a place where you list the stories; that way you won't lose your established search engine traffic.
I do think that is the best way to go about it. I think I'll have an easier time figuring it all out once the transfer is complete.
Thanks for the welcoming words from all of you Hubbers! I'm not certain what to think of this transfer, but I'll see how it all works out. I have 60 lenses to transfer, and I imagine a great many of them will need to be edited. Squidoo has made me tired for the past year with all of their changes, and this is almost enough to turn my hair gray!
I have articles on a number of sites, including Zujava and Wizzley. I also have several blogs. The topics vary according to the site, but they center around animals, country life, recipes, military Veterans, and festivals. When possible, I like to insert a bit of humor and lightheartedness.
I see quite a few familiar "faces" here, and hope to get to know more of you.
I do have a question: I understand there can only be 2 links to one domain. Do links to "image credits" count as the two links if they come from the same source?
I hope you all are patient! We have a lot to learn!
Yes, image credits count towards the 2-link limit. However, most photo sites (like Flickr, Morguefile, Wikimedia Commons etc) are white-listed.
Hi Country Sunshine -- so nice you brought some sunshine with you. I think you will do well at HP. Best wishes to you.
I'll join with the others here, in saying thanks for all your welcome messages.
I was on Squidoo for the last 2 years and learnt so much from them and from lots of great writers who I have a lot of respect for - looking forward to meeting more here at HubPages.
I'm sad that Squidoo is going too. I had managed to make it to Giant Squid status and was one lens off getting to "monster squid" when the announcement was made.
I tend to write on techie stuff (I have a blog on technology) and wrote on board games + was the video games contributor on Squidoo - a niche I hope to keep building here on HubPages.
See you all soon!
First off, many thanks to Phyllis for the warm welcome
My name is Katherine Tyrrell and the username I'm known by around the Internet is makingamark. My main interest is art. I write about art, create resources about art and make art too - which is what I'm doing right now. I've got an exhibition next week - and this move from Squidoo knocked my timetable all out of whack big time!
In a nutshell:
* I've got a very popular art blog - called 'Making A Mark' which hit 6 million pageviews round about the same time that the editing button on Squidoo became disabled on Saturday! Plus a few other blogs and a couple of websites and one under construction.
* A lot of my lenses started life as a place to keep my bookmarks on different art topics. I've got 158 lenses coming over from my main account on Squidoo (and ? lenses from a second account). Interestingly, I did a count up on Sunday and after all the lens rank changes c.100 are in the top 10,000 lenses. Not a bad number to leave on!
* You've probably worked out that I'm also quite numbers oriented and that's because a very long time ago I qualified as a professional accountant although latterly worked in performance management prior to retirement.
* However I can write too! I am so lucky that the Squidoo announcement came just after final layouts for my first book. The Squidoo announcement a day after my Editor sent my book for printing meant we had a mad rush to get the website links changed at the end of the book! It's being published by leading publishers in the UK, USA and Asia at the end of this year (hopefully before Christmas!) - and I still waiting to here whether I can tell anybody what the title is!
I've brought my lenses here because I need some time to work out whether HubPages will like them and what I need to do to tailor them to fit and/or move the content elsewhere. I'll be on the look-out for good tips once they arrive and I can see what HP thinks of them!
Hi Katherine. It is good to have you here at HP. You have quite an extensive list of interests and experience. I wish you all the best.
Thanks to all for the warm welcomes - as you might suspect, I'm Scott McCray in real life, too. I write about homebrewing, homesteading, small farming, musical instruments, recording - and a few other things...
I've been mostly lurking and reading an occasionally dipping my toes in the forum waters.
(Looks around) Think I'm going to like it here...
Hi Scott. Yep -- I think you will like it here. The forums can be quite fun and educational, at times they can be quite energetic with debates. Best wishes to you.
People have been so kind and considerate. I appreciate all the help. Thanks everyone.
Hi Guys,
My name is William and I am a beginner to Hubpages and Squidoo. As I have posted two articles on Hubpages with help of Hubpages guide lines. In these two article one is featured and another is under moderation.
After reading the whole discussion, I found that all of you have so much of experience, so can anyone help me in "How can I maintain both the accounts in a proper way ?"
Thanks.
Just don't comment in any one Forum under both accounts and all will be fine. ;-)
Hi William. It is very nice to meet you. You say you have two accounts. Do you mean two HubPages accounts or one at HubPages and one at Squidoo?
For HubPages, if you have two accounts, just follow the rules for both accounts. Become very acquainted with the Learning Center and the FAQ section. (click on the Help button at the top right of any page to find the LC and FAQ section) http://hubpages.com/faq/#multipleaccounts See #7 under Account Administration - Publishing.
At the http://hubpages.com/faq/ , read everything in the Quality Assessment Process so you will be familiar with what is required for writing and publishing.
The best advice I can give you is to read, read, and read the FAQ and browse the Learning Center often.
I wish you all the best.
Thank you, Phyllis. I have over 100 hubs on 2 accounts currently, at HubPages, and will be transferring up to 157 from Squidoo. I've been reading the Hub FAQs for months. Every Hub I've published in last few months has gotten featured, without questions, within a few hours of being published. Must be doing something right. I publish about three per week, on average. Hope and expect to continue that!! ;-)
Good for you, DrBill. Hope the transfer goes well for you.
Hi Phyllis,
Thank you so much for your valuable response.
Apology for misinterpretation: I have only an account on hubpages and similar is on the squidoo.
I had gone through your whole reply and find out it is really helpful for me.
Thanks a lot.
Ah! You are most welcome, William. I am glad I could help. Thanks for letting me know that.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I originally signed up here alone with Squidoo but ended up writing there because of time, or lack thereof.
I like the four month grace period, with only 10 lenses I don't think I'll have a problem tweaking them.
There are simply not enough dancing bananas on this post. (Hi, Robert!)
Nice to meet you, Robert. I wish you all the best here at HubPages.
Hello,
I've been on HubPages for a bit of time now, but most of my work has been on Squidoo. I'm hoping for a smooth transfer. The people here are very welcoming so hopefully all will go well.
Hi Janis. Good luck to you with the transfer. Nice to meet you.
Thanks for the kind welcome Phyllis. My name is Enda from Ireland and I write mainly about Ireland, male grooming and also on my hobbies. It will be nice getting to know you all.
Greetings, Enda. It is nice to meet you. I wish you all the best on HubPages.
Great to hear about those topics but if you used me for Male grooming there would not be much to say. Bathe, brush teeth, comb hair - DONE!
It is great to see my Squidoo friends here!
I don't know what to tell since I sometimes get lost myself XD Though I am an Asian, I try to write about nature that includes animal, flowers and etc.
Thank you
Hi takkhisa. It is nice to meet you. Best wishes to you.
Hi, welcome to HubPages. I love it here; you can write as much as you please, or take a break without any pressure, the formatting tools are excellent, and most of all, our fellow Hubbers are wonderful people.
I just joined HP 11 days ago. I have written 3 featured hubs and I am beginning to like it here. I have 23 Featured lenses from Squidoo and waiting for its auto transfer to HP. Thanks again for your welcome, Chateaudumer
Hi David and welcome to HubPages. You seem to be off to a good start. I wish you all the best.
Thanks guys for welcoming us ex-Squids to Hubpages. I've made 4 hubs so far and although it took some time adjusting, I do like how things are run here.
I mostly write about travel and cooking as those are my two passions. I look forward to writing here for a long time to come.
Once again, thank you all for the warm welcome.
You are most welcome, smine27. Welcome to HubPages, it is nice to meet you. I am glad to know you like it so well here. Good for you for jumping right in and writing four hubs already.
Squidoodlers - are your lenses starting to migrate over? I'm really enjoying the Hubpages community. Up to 25 hubs now!
Welcome to hubpages! Welcome to your new home, lensmasters!
I hope you will enjoy your stay here.
I am Jemuel. I write about variety of topics on electronics, communications and on personal development. I am now celebrating my first year on hubpages.
Let's make this community bigger and better!
Yes ! "Let's make this community bigger and better!" Great way to go !
Hi! I'm Deb (DebW07), I've been writing online for about 4 years beginning with InfoBarrel. I joined Squidoo and HubPages 2 years ago but focused all my attention on Squidoo. Unlike most Squidoo authors, I chose to delete my account. I decided that since I already had an HP account, among others, I would peruse my 150 lenses, edit them, and place each on one of the sites I write for or on my blog.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
You are most welcome, debW07. Best wishes to you. Glad to meet you.
Hello, Phyllis -- Charlino here - I have been a supportive hubber for six years, but with my original account, have yet to make a hub. My current account has two fresh hubs, and it is with great anticipation that my old lenses make it through transport. Good to see you here.
Hello, Charlino99. It is good to meet you. Good for you with the two new hubs. All the best to you.
Thank you Phyllis and everyone else who joined your warm welcome, you're all so kind and supportive.
My name is Tamara and I come from Croatia, Europe. (TamaraKajari on Squdoo and now Tamara14 here). I enjoy writing about natural health topics, home improvement as well as sharing my recipes and some shopping tips and guides for girls since I'm a mother of two girls myself.
A lot of work is ahead of me to edit my transfered articles, but I'm really looking forward to it seeing how great this community is.
You are most welcome, Tamara. It is very nice to meet you. I hope all goes well for you with your transition and the work ahead of you. This is a tremendous effort for Squidoo members and I admire the enthusiasm and great attitudes of all of you.
Thank you for the invite, I was an active member of Squidoo since 2009 and although I'm not exactly happy about the changes, I accept that change is a constant thing in life and you have to go with the flow, so to speak. I already had an account at HubPages so I had to create a new account under the name of "Rock Artist" where hopefully my Squidoo lenses will transfer to without a problem. My main hobby is painting on rocks and crafts in general.
You are welcome, Nancy. Change is not always easy, I so understand that. What I do not understand is why all lenscrafters have to change their online name to open an account at HP. You had followers under your Squidoo name -- so, I wonder how that will work. I wish you all the best.
Lenscrafters - that's cute. Thanks for making me smile. It was "Lensmasters" but... well, that's over, sadly enough. So what do you call people writing for HubPages?
I am sorry about that. For some reason I keep saying lenscrafters.
Thanks for the welcome!
I was dragging my feet waiting for my lenses to transfer over for a while, but today I decided to take the plunge and write my first hub. I like the platform and found it pretty easy to use. I am glad I gave it a try before all my lenses got here. That probably would have been a little overwhelming, LOL!
Now to start meeting and networking with Hubbers here!
Thanks again for the warm welcome,
Jackie
Hi Jackie. You are very welcome. Good for you to plunge in and try out the writing platform here. I love it and find it very user friendly. It is a good idea to get used to making a hub before all your lenses arrive. This will help you a lot. Best wishes to you.
I'm just thinking maybe I will move my content to another site, anyway, because they don't allow me to watermark my photos here. All my photos are watermarked and I guess it's not allowed.
Hi Shorebirdie. Before you go to another site because of your watermarked images, check with Matt or Kristy on that. Start a thread in the 'Help for HubPages' forum and one of them will pop in and answer your questions. If they are your own water-marked images, you might be able to include them in your own hubs. I am not sure about that -- but, do find out before you make any decision about leaving HP. Or ask this question in the Squidoo Community forum thread.
Thanks. I tried starting a thread in the Squidoo forum here on Hubpages and all I got was that they're not allowed. I checked other threads in other forums and HubPages don't seem to want to back down from that policy. I was enthusiastic about being here, before, now I'm not sure.
And you told them they are your own images?
Well, it was just another member replying and I thought it was obvious I was talking about my own photos. I only watermark my own photos, I can't imagine someone watermarking another person's photos. Most of the watermarks are not prominent, either.
It very well my not have been obvious to that other member. Please ask the question in the 'Help for HubPages' forum: "I water-mark my own images. Can I use those images in my own hubs?" or something similar. Just make sure you are clear that these are your own images that you water-marked yourself. Good luck to you.
OK, will try to do that. I can understand, totally, why some watermarks aren't allowed, but you can barely see any of mine and it's just my signature.
Good. If you have trouble with posting the question in the right forum I can help you.
Thanks, I already posted it. I think I got it right.
Greetings, Babu. You are most welcome. Best wishes to you.
I just received some nice comments on some of my hubs from a writer called 'Adventuretravels'. As is usual when I get comments, I glanced at her profile and saw that she had 109 hubs after only 2 weeks at HubPages - a bit odd, I thought, until of course I realised she has come to us with her pages from Squidoo! Her pages seem well worth reading, but Giovanna - 'Adventuretravels' - currently has only 31 followers here. Presumably all former Squidoo writers have relatively few followers on this site at the moment.
Of course no one should 'follow' just for the sake of it, but I would urge all HubPage members to give special consideration and encouragement to former Squidoo members with whom they come into contact, and make an extra effort to build up their base of followers so that they all really feel at home here, and a part of the HubPage community.
Thank you, Phyllis! There is a bit of a learning curve for us, guys, and it's nice to have some friendly faces on the forum.
My name is Cheryl Rogers. I'm a freelance writer and Christian author from Tampa, Fl, who publishes New Christian Books Online Magazine.
From the looks of it, I will have to be removing a lot of extra links -- the limit at Squidoo was nine to an outside domain. I also had a some lenses dedicated to recommending products from Zazzle, which seem to have become outdated.
I am not sure how much time I will have to devote to this project; hopefully I will be able to salvage most of it.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Still waiting for my Squidoo lenses to transfer...curious and excited to see how they'll look as Hubs!
Many thanks for the warm and kind welcome. All my lenses (50) have now been moved over. Thankfully the folks here have allowed a grace period of 4 months to make the changes. Those are things like adding a description and not having multiple products listed one after the other.
The WYSIWYG editor does make such a difference as that did not exist at Squidoo. It makes providing both internal and external linking so much easier. It is also great to be able to simply bold words without having to use HTML etc.
I also like the fact that hubbers seem to be treated equally here and that means an even playing field.
For sure it takes a bit of getting used to but the learning center is great, and there is certainly plenty of support.
As a HubPages member for nearly 4 years, I think the HubPages format works really well and for the most part I have been happy with the layout of pages and with most changes which have occured in recent years. I've certainly not felt any desire to look elsewhere to publish my articles. But no doubt there are some elements of Squidoo which may be better, and from which Hubpages may learn.
Squidoo writers will have a unique opportunity to compare the two sites. Endamclarnon has pointed out a few differences. Perhaps in a few weeks time after getting fully used to the way HubPages do things, it would be interesting to hear these fresh views on the strengths of HubPages, and anything which Squidoo members feel we could benefit from, which was different or better on their old site?
This is a rare opportunity to build greatly on the strength of HubPages with a big increase in members, some new quality writers, and perhaps new ideas too. Best wishes to all who have come over
Hi Enda. It is very nice to meet you. I am glad you are finding your way around and enjoying the HubPages platform.
Thanks for the warm welcome and it is really comforting to be welcomed so warmly. I love to see people succeed and if we can all help each other along the way, what a wonderful world it could really be.
So the Squid is gone. Haven't read the replies here but will this be a good thing for all concerned? Your sure welcoming folks from there and wouldn't expect anything different from a lady like you.
Hi Alastar. It seems like there is a general enthusiasm for going forward with hopes of this being a good thing for all concerned. It is a tremendous adjustment for everyone and not easy, but so far it is looking good. I hope HubPages can increase their staff with experienced employees to handle the mass.
I'd just like to join in the welcome to everyone! Hopefully things are starting to settle down and make sense for everyone! Good luck!
I'm very happy to be here! I think all of us squids have gotten a very warm welcome.
My hubs just transferred - woohoo! Time for editing!

I am wondering if the merger between Hub Pages and Squiddo will affect our standing with Google. All of us here have worked very hard to improve this site so that Google, finally, has begun to view us as a credible writing site. Now, there will be an influx of writers from another site that did not...

I just left a thread where the main complaint was that squidoo writers were going to bring the quality down. But what surprises me is not the complaining but the lack of analysis of the big picture. I started on hubpages years ago and left because of the articles that were being posted....

I just want to say: Welcome to HubPages Squidoo Lensmasters! I hope we all learn a thing or two from you and can become one big writing community here at HubPages. When are the Squidoo accounts supposed to start being transferred to HubPages?
by lesliesinclair 10 years ago
I was one of the oldies on Squidoo and the change over to HubPages happened at the same time as a major event in my life that required most of my last year so I've been very sloooow in becoming active here. In fact today is the first time I've spent more than an hour rectifying lacks on a bunch of...

The news of the merger came to me as a big surprise. Squidoo then was competing pretty well with Hubpages before Google sledge hammer. Infact 3 years I joined HP, I had the plan to publish some lens just for the sake of not putting all my eggs in one basket. Come to talk of the merger is like...

"Welcome to the Hubpages! I'm looking forward to reading more of your material!"And they seem to be on a famming run using that same message for each person they've fanned.
