This fool http://hubpages.com/profile/532054 sneaks around my hubs, and now I know why. Cos she/he/it has stolen my shit and published elsewhere for adsense cash. They didnt even give me credit. No link, no nothing.

If a hubber acts in this manner, they ought to be banned, starting with her.

It would be very wrong to allow them to be a part of community they steal from.

Man, I am really livid right now.

Isabella, other than posting here, have you contacted the hub team about this hubber?  This sounds pretty uncool to me.

  5. Isabella Snow profile image70
    Isabella Snowposted 16 years ago

Yes, I just did. But really, I don't think they will do anything, since its not copied and pasted here. I tried to contact the place its posted, but their abuse email doesn't work. Of course. Whats worse, this person actually leaves comments in my hubs like a fan! The nerve!

wow, I can't believe anyone would do that. Anyone who steals is not welcomed to hub pages.

    I'm sorry isabella.

I did not do this myself (albeit I too have some content stolen from me), but I read on several forums that you can contact hosting company and it will terminate abuser's account if theft is proven. I think HP staff or guys who have an experience can chime in with more qualified answer on this.

I agree that she should be banned, but I dont think that a banning would stop her stealing your work Isabella, I wonder if another solution including the ban of course would be for hubpages to insert code that stopped people from being able to copy and paste hubs.
these guys who do it are lazy, if they had to type our hubs word for word instead of copy/paste, i am sure it would put an end to thieving.........jimmy

Maybe the team could prevent the 'copy' command on the computer... There is still a way around it, print screening, but it takes more work. If the person really wanted to spend the time print screening, retyping, etc. Then they really have a problem...

I've been to several sites that prevent you from highlighting and copying... This really hinders school research and such when trying to copy to a word document to print. But, it protects the writer of the material.

put a curse on the code, if anyone steals it they will perish in traffic.. put a subliminal algorythm in your writing using font sizes or spaces strategically placed, as one reads the article the offset of the specific words and spaces (unapparent to the person reading it) but use the spaces tocreate a word linkig affirmation that subliminally tells the reader if they steal this code their hair will fall out smile could work... ya think?

I don't blame you for being mad. I've had content stolen several times, and I get pissed off every time it happens.

Regarding Google, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that if there is duplicate content, they don't penalize the site/blog that posted it first. In other words, the site it is copied on will get the penalty, not you. Does this sound familiar to anyone else, or am I remembering it wrong?

      Here are two options,

Contact the admin at yousaytoo a line and point out this thread as well as a list of her yousaytoo articles and your corresponding hubs, and that you will be contacting Adsense to report the violation. Which in turn would cause Adsense to investigate their site. And that in the very least you want all of your stolen content removed from the site. And that they should consider banning the user.

Option 2 is you contact the Google Adsense Team.

      https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/request.py?

      * Other
          * Report a policy violation

Chances are even if she is banned from yousaytoo.com that it will continue to happen, so hit her where it's going to hurt the longest, right in the Adsense Publisher ID.

If Google ban her they will do everything they can to make sure she never gets another Adsense account. Ever. Again.

      1. Isabella Snow profile image70
Isabella Snowposted 16 years agoin reply to this

I think youre missing my point - the web hoster would be the host for the severs, domain, whatever and wouldnt have individual user accounts - or care about them. Their client would be something lke hubpages, where a company buys hosting, and then maintains themselves.

        1. Misha profile image66
Mishaposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Yep, exactly. And since the violation of law happens with the use of their technology, they can be hold accountable, too. That's why they often just shut down accounts (read - the whole site) that violates copyright - at least this is what I read... However, if hosting company is not US company - you are at a loss. But you still can report it to Google, and they presumably start their own investigation, dropping site in question from the index for ten days - again, I don't have personal experience, I just read this...

First off, lady or gentleman, anyone has the right to get upset about something being stolen.  So, I totally understand Isabella's outrage.

Second, this is something we will constantly have to deal with, so we will have to remain vigilant about our work and whether it is copied or not.  I don't think this hubber should be allowed to remain a member of hubpages, but there must also be other methods to discredit this person elsewhere.

If you're not able to get a reasonable response from the sites themselves, I would suggest documenting your efforts and taking your case to the hosting company as Misha suggested, and/or to adsense (since the site is monetized with adsense).  There are a lot of resources out there that explain the steps you should follow when someone steals your content.  Here is one:

    http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/07/deal … -when.html

Both sites claim to prohibit violations of copyright, but I didn't see anything about a DMCA policy on either of the sites.   A DMCA takedown procedure is the route that a reputable site will offer to you for cases like this.

I attempted to match up the adsense id from the copied page against all the registered ids at HubPages (since both of those sites appear to have revenue sharing arrangments).   There was no match.  However, given the matching username and photo it appears likely that the responsible party is the user that you identified.

I would suggest giving the site a day or two to respond, before you start in with google.  It can take time to investigate, and not every site has 24 hour dedicated support people.  We're pretty good at responding at HubPages, but we certainly don't respond to every single email that comes into our box within 4 hours (or even 24 hours).

Also, I'd suggest doing a bit of research first so that you can present your case concisely but with all the necessary facts.  A well researched and crafted email is more likely to get a quick and positive response.

I have screenshots of the copied articles, which say they are published Jan 8.

This  is a little off the topic, but I HAD to go over and look at this chick's stuff. Besides all of the stolen content, the site looks like absolute shit. Ugly layouts, humongous ads in the middle of the stolen content, photos just thrown in any way they would (or wouldn't, in most cases) fit. It just made me even more appreciative of how attractive (visually and tools-wise) Hubpages is.

  46. Peter M. Lopez profile image72

Isabella, Paul's right.  You have to file a DMCA complaint with the publisher or hosting company, including the pages or links to the pages where the copied material is posted.  Most reputable hosting companies are quick to respond to DMCA claims for liability purposes.  If they determine that a DMCA violation has occurred, the site will be shut down immediately.

I've had occasion to do this for a client and the hosting company's attorney was quick to reply and have the offending site shut down.  I'm not sure there is much that Google can do about the site itself, other than cut off $, but I suspect Google will tell you the same thing about filing a DMCA complaint with the hosting company.

    1. Isabella Snow profile image70
Isabella Snowposted 16 years agoin reply to this

They would not shut an entire website down for one idiot - this is not a personal wesbite.

And as Ive already said, their email addresses for complaints are bogus and get returned.

      1. Misha profile image66
Mishaposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Isa, you keep missing the point - they will!

Hoster will shut down site account, if site violates copyright, no matter if site owner or site user does it. The point is - if site owner did not take action against user despite of your reasonable attempt to persuade him/her, (s)he is in violation, too, and now his/her account gets shut down.

This is because next in line for lawsuite is hoster itself wink

Every line I ever uttered in a shout box is in a post on one of her multiple boards and they have threads there that 5 minutes after I post that I eat a Dove cookie, there is a thread there "Spab ate a Cookie".  Or talking about my pet scorpion.

    I shit you not.

I'm sorry for you Isabella, but at least she's only stealing your work, rather than stealing your identity.

She changes off and also runs mulitple alts at the same time.  Currently she likes to pretend to be a Catholic poet.  neutral

One of her little buddies is on my old message board plagarizing pics and entire blogs of "apneatic" from myspace.

I hope you can do something about it, Isabella.  I never could.

Iðunn, damn I am so sorry. That is horrific, and I totally understand.

Isabella, I just wanted to post here to give you my support. I had a plagiarist stealing from my blog, and she's now stealing from a good friend who's blog is linked to mine. It's invading, and makes you feel helpless, angry, vulnerable, enraged...  it affects your sense of freedom and ability to write... it's so much more important than some people seem to realize.

I'm speaking to a lawyer now about my situation. If I learn of anything at all that would be helpful to your situation, I'll post it right away.
I'm sorry I don't have anything to offer in the way of help. I'm glad you have so much support here.

I just wanted to let you know I'm feelin ya, and I'm with ya.

      Veronica, thank you.

And you said to Isabella " It's invading, and makes you feel helpless, angry, vulnerable, enraged...  it affects your sense of freedom and ability to write... it's so much more important than some people seem to realize."

That's quite right and it seems like no one understands.  I started having panic attacks just looking at my computer.  For four years, everywhere I go, there she is.  I make a name at a Catholic message board... she's there in 10 days.  When I first came here 15 months ago, it only took her 5 days to make a alt name with enough detail to make sure I'd know it was her.  She likes for me to know.  She spends hours googling me daily to find me anywhere I went day after day, month after month, year after year.

I finally came back here because I can control comments and weed out hinky people, so I don't have to interact with her.  She loves me so much she wants to be me.  She presents to others that I follow her, and the stupid thing is that I get no support, because she mimics every single thing I say, so if I'm being stalked so is she suddenly!  And by me!  Then she has two buddies and herself in 5 alts each tell people it's a feud.  Now do you guys understand why I pulled my Hubs for months?

Despite the fact that I removed myself from the posting world for months at a time - I took 11 months off my home board - the fact that post dates always show her arriving after me, like at my message board 2 YEARS after I was there as if I went two years early through ESP to harass her rather than the obvious - she stalked me to the internet, she cons people into thinking it's the other way around

And people let me tell you.  Be careful.  Don't tell total strangers personal details you don't want public.  She will tell you anything in some alias to acquire a temporary ally to send after her "enemies" usually by offering to help you pack up on one of yours - she loves a good mobbing, even while she might have other aliases attacking you, but she doesn't do friendship, loyalty or anything else human.  She is a sociopath.  You will get the karma from that.  She keeps all her written contact in files for using on them too later down the line.  I've watched her plow through numerous allies ripping them to pieces two months down the line.

If people's stuff doesn't match up.  Cute petite little asian girls was an old fav of hers who don't speak Chinese but speak English pidgin-style anyway.  Being a self-hating anorexic stripper with two different sized feet. (the foot thing was caught contradicting herself in posts) was and remains a fav.  Being a bible-thumper and/or Catholic (she's Jewish) and sometimes a poet, sometimes not, that's some of hers too.  God knows. She's pyschotic and harassing me and others on the internet is her only pleasure apparently.  She lives to get me to interact with her alts.

I'm doing better at seeing it as an annoyance rather than a threat, but it's not easy.  It would help if you run across her if you think to fact check before you dive into her one-sided war on her side.  I have all of this in print, files and files and files from years and years and years.
