      Many thanks.

I have a question - we have to put the 60dc feed into every hub we make, right?

Will this affect the on-page SEO of the hub (because of links unrelated to the hub appearing on the page)?

Given that we are creating hubs on tightly related topics, wouldn't it be smarter to create a tag on 60dctopic, and then the feed in that hub would be that topic. So if your topic is dance, the tag is 60dcdance, and the feed on your dance hubs is based on 60dcdance. That way all links are relevant.

The standard 60dc feed could only go on our hub-logs and external blogs - given that they are just personal it doesn't matter if we confuse Googlebot with a mad assortment of unrelated links there.

P.S. have made my hub-log and first hub

Daisy, the point is that there is a shared effort at promotion, and part of that is that you're cross-promoting other Hubbers' Hubs by including the RSS feed.  If you make an exclusive tag, then you only promote a limited sub-set, which defeats the purpose. At least I think that's the point...

        1. Daisydot profile image60
Daisydotposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Hi, thanks for replying. I get the point about the cross-promotion, and we can definitely do this on our hub-logs and external blogs.

But the search engines really frown on unrelated stuff on the hubs. If a hub is about dance, they don't want to see stuff on there about making money online or greek honey or something completely unrelated. Think about it, they are catering to search visitors, and if you are searching about dance, why would you want to be offered a link about making money?

Topic related tags needn't be that exclusive if we post what tags we are using on this thread, and then other people making related hubs will then also be part of the feed. It does need a very big amount of participants to work though, so that all the topics are covered by many people.

@daisy, what is your basis for "really frown"

Do you think the negatives of having  "unrelated" links (in a rss feed) will outweigh the positives of having your link potentially appear in 600+ pages?

What is googles basis for "unrelated"

We are interlinking within the same domain, we are related enough.

Are the related hubs in your hubs truly "related" are the live links to every hubbers profile in your comment section "unrelated" ?

I have thought about it, it is very much a non-issue

Using the rss feed in our group efforts is the only mandatory factor in this experiment.

The feed is dynamic and everchanging which is why we are using the "hot" option

How about the footer links in all the pages one publishes on -

            are these more related:

                *  about us
                * learning center
                * blog
                * affiliates
                * advertise
                * link to this page
                * copyright

            than dance or make money?

Google is looking for "relevancy" - they want everything in the body of the post to be relevant. Footers and Comments are not part of the body of the post, and therefore not really scanned for keywords to tell the bot what the page is about/assess relevancy.

You also seem to be under the impression that links are the be-all and end-all, when they are only one factor.

Look, we can argue about this till the cows come home. The only way to resolve it is to test it.

In the spirit of scientific investigation, I'm happy to be the control outside your group without the feed. You and the 20+ people in the 60DC challenge can proceed with the feed +60dc tag strategy. I'll pursue my relevancy strategy, and we can compare notes at the end of May.

You can visit my "Non-60dc" hublog to check my progress out (access it via my profile as I have removed all 60dc tags)!

I'm actually going to be interested to see if the rss feeds affect the relevancy of the google ads on the hubs.

Experimentation is the only way we'll know what works and what doesn't. So I wish everyone all the best.

Perhaps you missed my more detailed response:

Im not disagreeing with link 'relevancy" being a factor, im just putting it really, really far down in things to care about - The rss feed is very important to our group exercise, the value of the volume of links far exceeds "relevancy" -

Disagreement and conversation is great! I learn new things everyday, but my experience just doesnt support your statement. The seomoz survey I linked doesnt support your evaluation either. I wish you the best of luck in your challenge, all of our hublogs are publicly visible so you can compare as you please.

Ill admit when you first voiced your disagreement I jumped over to take a peek at your work and I didnt really see a high level of on-page optimization and I saw that you were writing about some similar topics as I cover - I randomly grabbed a 2 month old article on ipads (showcased in your profile)- and found it wasnt even indexed.

So I just assumed you were parroting info you had read elsewhere. If your process and theories work for you here and at squidoo and niche blogs, I would love to read about your theories and experiments. I will never turn down a learning experience.

For the scientific investigation part - I will be involved with the group and team so not sure I would want to read and compare another massive 60 day log but I will throw a smaller comparison out there.

I see you have a hub hubpages.com/The-Beatles-Rock-Band-Game  published 7 months ago with a hubscore of 48

i have an unpublished, unwritten hub

hubpages.com/The-Beatles-Rock-band-buying-guide (you must have already gobbled up the good URL) lets see which one is "rocking" at the end of the 60DC...ill probably be writing around 50 hubs and responding to forum and emails in addition to planning a baby shower, attending parenting classes and taking a vacation to california - so the deck should be loaded in your direction.

I am competitive, sound like fun? and if you havent read it, I really suggest reading that entire seomoz survey and maybe looking around for grizzlys blog and courts original blog..

relevancy of 6-8 outbound links outweighing the benefits of 100's of group created links big_smile

Im a bit sleep deprived, so please excuse any major typos, I think the spirit of my response is as I intended.

                  I had long forgotten,

But as this thread was brought back to light and I read and saw DD "non-challenge" log with mentions of this mini challenge

                  http://www.google.com/search?q=+beatles … =firefox-a

You will see that the keyword we both shared "beatles rock band" was taken by a 60dc hub as was DD URL keyword string

                  http://www.google.com/search?q=+beatles … 8db929eee0

Scroogle agrees. Perhaps the DD challenge was unfair as I cant find any evidence that DD is even indexed which kind of ruins any ability to make a comparison smile

For those who wondered about feeds and relevancy - it seems it was very much  a non-issue as many original challengers ranked for very competitive terms.

Im sorry all, but as we work closely as a group it becomes difficult if the team gets too large, so we had to have  a cut off point - there will be future challenges and there are many similar official hubchallenges to take part in.

Daisy dot, I think you got it wrong. You won't be using the same URL and Title, as you said in the hub log. You just add the tags, 60 dc, and 60 days challenge to all of your new hubs, plus the RSS capsule, so the feed is on that hub as well.

I hope you will let me in! smile

Can anyone tell me if I have done the right thing with the log in tags?  Are you requiring a hub with a plan of my objectives, or am I ok just to create hubs on my chosen topics?

Just jumping in real quick, still have family events today.

After reading through the forum posts.

No one is to late to join.

The current rss feeds and tags are as follows

    ALL 60dc hubs should receive:

    60dc
    60daychallenge  (no spaces)
because of a typo, I made 60 day challenge  (has spaces)

The 60DC hublog should receive "60dc-logs"

an rss capsule on all 60DC hubs should include:

    http://hubpages.com/tag/60dc/hot/?rss

(below the comments is fine, this is a seo purpose, visibility is optional)

As for "answering the question", since I asked the question, if you answered it using the button, I get an email, so it just helps me stay organized.(its not required) Im also keeping track of the "60dc-logs" tag and if I miss any... new joiners can leave a comment on the 60dc team hub or email me.

big_smile Sunforged is a male, but considering I frequently referenced an incoming baby and my picture is of a robot, I understand the confusion.

@daisy, No , on-page seo will not be effected by the rss feed, not using the rss feed would be in fact be cheating the other participants as MW pointed out.

You are on to something about more specific rss feeds, that is certainly planned as a part of the promotion phase once we know common groups.

    1. Daisydot profile image60
Daisydotposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I'm pretty sure the bots spider all text on the page including the text in the links of the RSS feed at the time the spider visits.

I think it would be so much better to use topic specific feeds. For instance, I am writing on kitchenware, which is a pretty broad topic - so 60dckitchenware could be a feed I'd happily put on my lens as it's relevant. I feel weird about writing about bowls and having links on there about making money online. Visitors might think "what?" and backspace, and the bots would get confused.

There is a reason hubpages itself groups hubs by category rather than jumbles them all up willy-nilly...

      1. Marisa Wright profile image91

Well, I couldn't agree, if only because I suspect very few people would be writing on dance so I'd be virtually on my ownsome.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one who wouldn't have much company.

For your idea to work, I'd think we'd have to have a much larger number of Hubbers participating, or agree on a restricted number of topics.

        1. Daisydot profile image60
Daisydotposted 12 years agoin reply to this

What about using the broad topics hubpages groups us by already? eg

          Health
          Entertainment
          Business & Jobs
          Home & Family
          Technology
          Knowledge & Education
          Books & Writing
          Fashion & Beauty
          Personal Finance
          Gender & Relationships
          Politics & Social Issues
          Religion & Beliefs
          Travel & Places
          Food
          Sports & Recreation
          Games, Toys, & Hobbies
          Pets & Animals
          Holidays & Celebrations
          Arts & Crafts
          Automotive
          HubPages

When you are writing your hubs you are selecting one of the above anyway, so your dance hubs will be fitting within one of the above categories already.

We simply put 60dctopic, as a tag and then as a feed, et voila.

The tag feed only shows a max of 8 hubs in any case, so all that will happen is that your own related hubs will feature, plus some others with a good hubscore (if you are using the hot feed).

Doing it in the general way it means that everyone's feed features the same hot 8 (irrelevant) hubs, and all the other hubs in the challenge get left out...

I'd rather a) have relevant hubs in the feed and b) have a chance of my hubs appearing in the feed in the first place (and the narrower the category the more chance there is of this happening)

"You are on to something about more specific rss feeds, that is certainly planned as a part of the promotion phase once we know common groups."

During the promotion phase. That is in the plan, for now we are in the 30 hubs in 30 days phase, the other stuff will come later, during the 30 day promotion phase.

            1. Daisydot profile image60
Daisydotposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Yes, but I don't get why we should wait. We are asking the bots to look at our hubs and possibly categorise them wrongly because of irrelevant stuff on the page, and then correcting the mistake after a month and asking the bots to start over in looking at us. Why not start correctly right from the start?

Also, the problem with using the general 60dc hot feed is that the same 8 hubs feature over and over and other hubs don't get a look in.

My question above was initially triggered by visiting lots of hub-logs and seeing the same 8 hubs in the feeds - and it occured to me that lots of stuff being created for this challenge just wasn't being promoted. I changed my feed on my hub-log to "latest" just to give the other stuff being produced by everyone a chance. Just saying...

@Daisy Im sorry but the issue is irrelevant, I know you have read otherwise. But what SE's wish and say worked and what really works are often far different.

Yes Hubpages did a great job with their category structure, Ill let them keep it ,its already in place. We already enjoy that separation.

If you knew all the ways the 60DC rss feeds will be used, you would understand how inconsequential the issue is and how unmanageable an addition like your recommendation would become.

Check out the PR (also rather inconsequential these days)on some longstanding hubbers profile pages - do we write only on one "related" topic? How have we been frowned upon?

It is  a good question ! I just dont agree that it is based on accurate information - in fact I have been proven otherwise many times

AT WS -Your HubLog  Its a team building exercise and will play an important part in the promotion phase as an index that other hubbers can easily find.

"Check out the PR (also rather inconsequential these days)on some longstanding hubbers profile pages - do we write only on one "related" topic? How have we been frowned upon?"

The question is that when people search for various keywords, does your profile rank? I bet you when people search for "bikini briefs" they don't get the sunforged profile AT ALL. And that's my point. If your page is too jumbled you won't rank at all for your keyword, no matter what pagerank you accrue (as you point out pagerank is pretty inconsequential).

I really think it's a bad idea to carefully target a keyword on a page and then casually blow all the work by including completely irrelevant keywords. The on-page stuff has as much effect as the backlinks. It's a mistake to think that backlinks are the only things you need to think about.

I can see that we are not going to agree, so I might pull out of this and remove the 60dc tags on my hubs. Good luck with your project.

the "hot" hub is constantly changing,(updated every 30 minutes!) for now the first hubbers who join will probably dominate it. After 60 days the hubbers who promote their hubs the best will dominate it. This is a 60 day challenge with results that should be enjoyed for perpetuity - what your viewing now in the feed is of no consequence.

Other feeds will be used off-site (these are far more important)

You must be more forward thinking.

The rss feed can be set to show more than 6 and I actually suggest placing the feed below your comment capsule out of your visitors eyes.

Unfortunately, I cant spend any more time on the this request, if i felt my suggestion was invalid I really never would have suggested it.

You are referencing a very inconsequential factor of seo optimization - there are far more you should consider honing onto first -

How are 52 week challenge, hubpages, Squidoo, xomba and sonydigitalreader prs 600 related ? -they are not and that is fine wink

PDH I think you can still join this challenge.  I read on sunforged hub on 60 day challenge that there is still room for 10 official participants(he said that in the comment section of his hublog hub).  I think you can join and It would be great to have you on board.

Any disagreements in methods should certainly be voiced. Im sorry we cannot agree.
    ---------------------------------

Considerations I make and will suggest for creation and promotion, pretty much in order.

    1. Proper keyword selection "low hanging fruit" i.e. conquerable niche or keywords.

    2. Quality Keyword ANCHORED backlinks (with variants)

    3. On Page optimization

keywords --in URL/Title/H2 (capsule header on hubpages) / image titles

    4. Link Diversity (you want your backinks from as many varied sources as possible)

    5. everyday average backlinks

    5. Volume of backlinks

somewhere around 99 I would put "level of relationship a robot may judge between two different chunks of text" in this same area I would place "Keyword density"

    Some interesting info:

A panel of 72 full time seo professionals answered a 100 page survey on factors that actually matter in search ranking

My experience agrees with the findings and these are the factors we will be catering to.

I just posted this on my blog, I really wish I could join in this challenge but I among other things just do not have enough time right now. I hope this helps some.

30 Hubs in 60 days<<(link to your first Hub on the challenge)
Sunforged is one of many great and helpful Huber's at HubPages. He is currently working on a community project that will help participating Huber's take advantage of his knowledge of SEO and Internet promotion. He has started a community challenge to inspire Hub Writers to first write 30 hubs in 30 days and then with his help and the help of some other very knowledgeable Huber's they will spend 30 days promoting the hubs who joined in the challenge.
Sunforged and the team of volunteer Huber's will be on hand to help anyone who would like to participate in this challenge.

Thank you! What would be most beneficial to the group would be a rss widget with our group feed. In a few days the "join the 60dc" hub will be old news.

Totally my fault Jean, Ive added some info over the last day or so.

from a little earlier in the thread:

so all hubs should have the basic 60dc tags - the logs only should have the "60dc-logs" tag , and its appreciated if you actually showcase the "60dc-logs" rss in your log.

the other rss feeds are only for seo purposes and can be stuck out of site under the comments if you please

Sunforged I again have a question(Gosh, you gonna start hating me soon).. I downloaded free trial of market samurai and did keyword research.  But it is totally different from what I have seen in the video.  The free trial only shows the possible keywords and does not the the average CPC, it's SEO value and other things which they show in the video.  So am I doing something wrong or is it because of the free trial that I am not getting.  Also I have very weak in keyword research just write on instinct.  I know very bad from SEO view point and would really like to improve.  I am also uploading the image so that you can see if there is some fault on my end.

Okay, enlightenedsoul, this will initially seem like a lot, but here goes!

I first discovered HubPages from the "30 Day Challenge" by Ed Dale. It's basically a free program to teach SEO with the goal of making $1 in 30 days online.

Among the many techniques and resources they provide are the Market Samurai tool, plus soooo much more! Here's a link to the wealth of videos they talk about:

      http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/training/

Among them are a few about market samurai, which you can also find on youtube. Here's one:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq0BvBb7 … re=channel

There is A LOT of info here, but I would recommend focusing just on the market samurai videos first to see how it works. It really is a handy tool!

Hope this helps - it took me ages to absorb all this info, but it is well worth it!

Free trial has limited options and I do NOT suggest investing in the full version until you are 100% competent with just using the Google adwords keyword tool.

If that tool (MSamurai) is too confusing, just ditch it for now, dont allow a new "tool!" to become an obstacle instead.

I will be creating a hub that showcases keyword tools and includes lots of well done tutorials by other people.

I will help you figure out that tool, but I cant quite quite yet.

for now, you are doing everything right..its just limited when its free.

I will check for you...I have teh full version, ill download the trial on another computer and see what limitations it has...it does surprise me that CPC isnt part of teh trial version. Unfortunately, I wont be at my home computer until monday.

You know 6 months ago, I didnt know what SEO was.  Is there any way that someone like me could have a designated Guru to help with the process?  I know more than the newbie but am still learning and am willing to be nurtured.

Could I have someone like you or Edweirdo, perhaps?  I just feel that I need that extra bit of support, that's all.... of course, if it is too much of a committment, I will understand smile

I am glad you would look into it and even if you can't help now it is fine.  I know you will.  Will look for your post on monday.  Enjoy the weekend.  I will have 2 more hubs published today and that will complete my bookmarking sites series.  That will give me some time to learn the keyword research and tag thing.  Thanks for helping out and sorry for troubling you on a regular basis.

I know this sounds stupid, but do you have to write a hub on the objectives first?  (be easy on me, take this one step at a time!).

Will you tell us when the 30 days part actually starts with participants or is the objective hub the start?  Dont want to miss the starting gun - surely we all need to be in sync for the 30 day promotion?

    Thanks:)

    1. SiddSingh profile image61
SiddSinghposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The basic purpose of the log-hub is

      1) You make a commitment publicly
      2) You will share your progress with all other participants
      3) Sunforged has a hub where he has linked to all the log-hubs of the participants. If your profile is there, anyone visiting that hub will know who is in the game.

If any of the above appeals to you, make the log-hub. It wont take much time anyway. How to make one? Visit the log hubs by Sunforged and Sufidreamer, they have made good ones. You can even visit mine and leave a comment or two big_smile

And remember, if you indeed chose to make a log hub, do it by answering the question asked by Sunforged. And do not forget to use the correct tags.

Ok.. am starting to get it now - remember 6 months ago, I didnt know what SEO meant! hehehe

        * I will check out these logs
*I will need to answer a question by sunforged, where would i find this?
        * presumably, as I would be answering a question from Sun, then hubs cant be allocated to hubmob either?
*Do we also post in the 30/30 thread/

        1. englightenedsoul profile image58
englightenedsoulposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Shaz only the hub log is to be made answering sunforged request, other hubs in the 30 day challenge can be done by answering hubmob question or by clicking on start a new hub tab.  Also if you don't make a hublog using sunforged request, just add the hublog tag and the hub log rss feed and you will be fine.  Though if you have not started on the hublog hub start it by answering sunforged's question. You can find the question here:

          Sunforged Question

Posting in the 30/30 is totally your personal choice, but why not post it, I do.  And the tag for the hub log is 60dc-log, make sure you add it in your hub.And the hublog RSS feed is http://hubpages.com/tag/60dc-logs/hot/?rss...include this in your hub and you will be fine.

Oh wavegirl... thanks... I was really worried.  I always get myself tuned up when I know that details need to be exactly right.  I know how important this is - if you make a mistake, it can screw everything up.

I already messed up with this in the first instance - just didnt get it!  I put the codes in a recent published hub - thinking that is what you have to do - doh!

People need to be direct with me - I never get upset, if fact I cant be doing with all that underlying context in discussion - I think, 'what are they trying to say?'  Like when someone buys you perfume?  I think... are they being thoughtful or do they think I stink? lol  Yes, I know, Im odd... but we all have our little ways!

The Official team hub may grow by a few members, not all participants have used the (60dc-logs) tag or answered the question. This is fine, Im looking through forum threads, emails, the rss feeds and comments to make sure I dont miss any.

This part and the team hub has taken me hours (Hats off to the hubmob organizers who do a round up weekly, wow!...its a lot more time intensive than it seems!)and Im happy to meet so many amazing hubbers that were new to me, but Im excited to get rolling on the rest of the challenge.

So if you should be on the hub (ie your hublog is already published) just point that out to me and I will rectify the missing links.

    Can I make a suggestion?

Do you think it is beneficial if we all follow each other on twitter?  We can check each other's progress, this way, and it is additional linking idea??

I am happy to follow individuals of our team.  Are we allowed to post twitter links here for ease?

I dont know how it works, but would it be of benefit to put #60dc-logs at the end of the twitter posting?

Yes sunforged, I can see this is going to be a massive job.  If there is anything I can do to help smile

We really dont have clearance to post any self serving links on the hubs forums.

Truthfully, anyone with a smaller following would become unhappy pretty quickly if they followed my twitter account...its been automatically posting our 60dc feed every hour for the last two days smile

Your idea is great - would you believe its part of tomorrows hub?

the tag idea is good - but that tag would only mean something to us..hash tags are more useful when they have meanings to our intended vistors and what your suggesting involves just a little bit more manual involvement with twitter than is quite necessary (IMO)

There are certainly some aspects that I could use some help with... I will outline some of those tomorrow. Its 4am here, im just trying to complete the team hub and im off to bed...just finished up adding your profile actually!

If you click on Sunforged's profile there's a sample. Can't remember the title, but you will know it when you see it. You can also click on any of the other challengers profiles to see theirs.
