I have received two unsolicited emails now from a hubber requesting me to send him my email address. I find it a bit creepy. I just deleted the first one. Should I ignore it or report it? I have had legitimate email contact from other which I have welcomed and responded to.
Hi Allison. I took a look at the log, and the first email you were sent seemed pretty harmless, so I think you were right to delete it. The second user, however, seems to have sent several such [amorous? lewd?] emails through our contact form, and I've banned him.
Thanks for your prompt action Maddie. I appreciate it.
oooh hope you don't mean me - I'm gonna start bombarding you with questions because you're doing so well, and I need all the teachers I can get.
You'll find this happens from time to time. They're spammers - just delete them.
If they're making any kinds of indecent suggestions, report them to the Hub team!
That's c-c-c-c-c-c-reepy.... I get regular BS from a troll that was on HP for awhile and continues to email me via my profile. If you respond...they have your email address... so just delete and ignore them. Good Luck.
Isn't there an option at the bottom of emails sent through the contact links to report the user for spamming?
There is.
Spam or Abuse. I'd be going for Abuse.
Ah so there is! I never noticed! Thanks GG.
Thanks for tha, I will use that option if it ever happens again.
Hi - There is an option in the edit profile page where you can change the setting - regarding - if you allow other hubbers to e-mail you or not.
I know you may not want to do that, but it is an option you could change for a while if you were having problems.
Hi 2uesday, I would not want to edit my profile to disallow email. I have noticed that some hubbers don't have the contact this hubber option on their profile. I have had some really nice contact, friendly, helpful and informative emails from other hubbers so I think I'll take a chance on the odd 'creepy' email!
I've been dealing with this problem ever since I started writing online: emails from people who find you through google and email you; or the more persistent ones, who especially join HP to contact you. It's one of the disadvantages of using one's actual pic rather than a neutral avatar, though who knows even then you're not spared! The content of the emails is not your typical spam, but in fact their own personal contact numbers, asking for yours, invites, wanting to be friends, comments on your pic etc.)
To tell you the truth, I really can't be bothered with reporting them anymore; I just ignore and delete. One thing I never do though, is to reply. Unless, of course, it's a genuine fan, hubber here and who's commenting on my writing.
Anyway, best of luck with this...
I get a steady stream (OK, a trickle) of emails via Hub Pages, from women who want to have a relationship with me.
Huh?!? I mean, can't they see I'm a cat? And even if they looked past the cat at my written profile and the content of my hubs, they'd realise that I too am female.
Like you, I just delete unanswered.

Ah, but would you consider a feline relationship, I too am a cat!
Oh I can sympathise with you puss, I mean the ones I get for relationships can't they see I am busy a nurse with great working obligations. Surgery takes long hours.
"I get a steady stream (OK, a trickle) of emails via Hub Pages, from women who want to have a relationship with me.

Maybe they're furries?
"And even if they looked... they'd realise that I too am female."
Okay, maybe they're lesbian furries?
Actually, I'm feeling kinda deprived now. Nobody (not even lesbian furries ) is sending me "get-together" emails. I mean, I wouldn't answer them, but still.
On a serious note, I'm glad that hubpages looks out for its writers. This kind of thing is creepy.
LOL. The thought did occur to me after I first posted to this thread. It's nonetheless weird that the emails I've had of this kind have all been from women rather than men. Maybe I just unwittingly send out "lesbian furry" vibes rather than "heterosexual furry" vibes
Awwww. Maybe you just haven't been here long enough. I didn't start getting them myself until I'd been here six months.
Jeff, you are the funniest cat I have seen yet On a more sober note, I just delete them anymore. See spam, hit delete. Buy the way, I can not believe I saw a hub member selling sex porn toys from their hubpage! yea..you heard me right. The hub user has links, which include photo's of sex porn toys right on their hubpage! I flagged it, my hub friends from Canada flagged it...but, the hubpage is still going strong with the porn sex toy's links all intact! Go figure?!
Here we go - logged into my email just now, and found this:
"Hello Dear
My name is [insert woman's name here] i saw your profile today at (hubpages.com ) and became intrested in you,i will also like to know you the more, and i want you to send an email to my email address so i can give you my picture for you to know whom i am.
Here is my email address [insert email addy here] I believe we can move from here!
I am waiting for your mail to my email address above.
I love you
[insert woman's name here]"
Straw poll of other female HP members: do any of you get emails like this?
::scratches head in a puzzled fashion::
They don't have time to check your profile, they get paid by the number of emails they send. And when it is a bot, it cannot recognize your pic either.
I hit the spam button. I don't have the time of day for this kind of email. If they really "wanted" to get to know you, then they could become your follower and start reading your hubs and respond accordingly.
I got one today from a supposed princess wanting me to help her get out of whateber country it was and loads of talk of millions of dollars or whatever. She even went to the effort to join hubpages to send it. I reported it as spam.
I've received dozens of unsolicited love letters by spam lovers
I get a lot of emails and comments from men hitting on me and I just delete them. I figure it goes with the territory! and oh the spam....... Thanks great topic! Peace:)
I'm waiting with baited breathe to receive my first unsolicited mail decalring undying love. I promise I won't delete it - I'll have it framed and ung on my wall for all to see. Well, actually no-one to see as I live alone and dream of genie.
I'm so glad that Maddie has taken such prompt action for you AG - that's really reassuring for us all.
I've had a few of them. Here's one I received today.....
"hello dear and respectable travelspresso so i have read ur profile now i want to propose for real and strong relations if u want to accept my friendship i hope that u will feel me a real sincere and honest person in ur life so come and share ur life with me i m here for u contact with me as soon as posible"
How do they know I'm respectable
They have the word "trust" in their email address and have just joined Hubpages. Yuk!
Wow! "Share your life!" I guess someone thinks your picture and Hubs are pretty darned respectable!" Don't let that "great catch" get away.
I've gotten an awful lot of "hello dears" - but no "share your life" ones.
Goodness Travelpresso, as Lisa says "Share your life"! It's certainly a different approach.
I too have recieved some classic email spam asking me if we would enter into a relationship and the name they gave was bigmuff@yahoo.com - which made me laugh, although not through hubpages contact forms or anything, so that is freaky weird
biggmuff????? lmao - as if that's the number one attribute a man looks for in a woman.
At one point I was feeling lonely so I opened several e-mail accounts and then sent myself a really nice email.....
Something like, "You are a swell person. Now I know why so many people follow you on Facebook. I think you might be the best friend I ever had."
Then I had the first email account forward all messages to the second email account, then that one forwarded to the next one and so on. In a few days, I looked at my email inbox and SURPRISE! there was an email for me. And it was so nice and made me feel swell.
I liked it so much, that I forwarded it to my first email account. Then a day later, I sent a very nice note thanking me for the wonderful email and it made me feel swell.
I haven't gotten any emails from somebody hitting on me. Not lately, that is. Only had one who was persistent to the point I put his flame out. He he..bet they're all scared after that last hub I wrote! !

It would be delightful if there was an easier way to contact some of the Hubbers. I have not done that often, since transferring from Squidoo, however - each time I wished to, I had to remember how to do it. When I am on my profile page, and someone shows up who I am following, the message in blue...

I am changing my status to no contact me on my profile. I have just gotten two e-mails from fundies and religious fanatics. I do not appreciate it one bit. So I am turning off that feature. You all want to go save someone or convert them and tell me that I am confused and...

Is there a possibility we could have a new feature that would only allow Hubpage members with profiles to send emails? I think this might cut down on the amount of spam we are currently receiving from unverified email accounts. Just a thought . Also, it would be great if email...

Today, to help people more easily contact an author, we added a link to email the author that respects the author's setting in their preferences. Hopefully, this will lead to folks getting a few good emails from time to time.

How can someone use my email address to send me or others junk/spam emails?A few months ago, I had a friend tell me that she was constantly receiving junk emails with my address as the sender. I figured that those spammers were using my email as their name to get people to open their emails....
