Wow...
I come back from the weekend and I'm delighted to see how popular this thread has become! I went through each individual page and friended as many of you that I could find.
It helps tremendously if you copy-and-paste a link to your profiles rather than say what you're user name is or what it typically is on websites. Misha, thanks for posting a huge list of links to your profiles, that made things very easy!
And as far as the question of "why" should we network on these other sites, here's my response-
* It helps drive traffic to your hub
* Traffic generally brings revenue to your pockets
* Social status is increased on these other websites based on how many friends/fans you have and how active you are on these sites
Think of the popularity factor in terms of a typical middle school experience. More friends = more respect = more weight to what you say = more people follow you, etc. These sites are similar.
So the benefits, as I see them, are (at least) two-fold:
1. When we all "friend" one another, "subscribe" to one another, "follow" one another, etc. we can help to vote up/digg/bookmark/thumbs up/etc one another's submitted articles, videos, HUBS, websites on safe driving, or even blogs on international luxury property!
2. When "outsiders" see our profiles on these websites, we are seen as carrying more "weight" and they are (supposedly) more likely to view/vote positively on the materials we put in front of them. In other words, we help to drive group-think!
Anyway, that's my abbreviated version for those wondering.
Keep the good links coming and I'll continue to friend!
I have to say that I submitted a video to propeller.com and with under ten "votes" the video made it to the 1st page of google for the term "amazing cats" (which I'd say is a preppy competitive keyword). The video itself only had around 100 views...
All these benefits are very true, but let's not forget that google picks up patterns and unless you add real value to the socials, you will get banned. Whenever I vote up a story for someone in particular (especially friends), I peruse the site and vote on others who are not a part of my circle, adding comments that have real meaning, this can be time consuming to say the least, that's why I spend my efforts on a few good socials and not a sleuth of them, because I could not otherwise, possibly give quality ratings to everyone on every social and bookmarking site. Seems everyone is adding everyone and going crazy all of a sudden, I'm not convinced it's such a great idea. That's just my opinion of course, it may work perfectly for others.
And that's a valid point- we all need to be responsible users (and not ABusers) on these sites. And yes, search engines (and these websites) can tell when we're spamming, so it's always a good rule of thumb to be active on the websites that we've listed here...
I think everyone that is participating is excited and going "crazy" because this is such an exciting thing- to be able to use the power of a group- the power of the interent and the power of networking- which when combined IS VERY POWERFUL.
This thread is a great example of networking, and supporting one another.
And yes you are right about contributing other things to the sites we join- read others articles, join forums, post other news worthy articles.
Like I said in my hub about networking, pick a few that really gel with you and stick with it- we can't possibly join and pariticpate in everything (but we can join them and see which ones work best for us)
Happy hubbing and networking everyone!
(OH and BTW- thank you Wedding Consultant for starting this thread and thanks MISHA for the other thread about Blogatiser that got our wheels turning!!!!)
Hi... too late to join in?
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=753334705
Never too late!
I found you on other sites and friended you there...can't remember which ones. Can you post links to your other profiles?
LOL you are welcome Dorsi
Chantel, I think I am with WC on this. This thread is not about voting up one another's posts (which I agree to you absolutely is a very tricky business and should be approached with a great care). This thread is about friending/subscribing/favoriting one another, which increases our weight on social networks and does not have any drawbacks.
Oh yes almost forgot this one- I joined up under SilvaLinings- it's a new site that looks to be very promising for businesses and revenue sharing: The marketplace is still in development but it looks very interesting: Here is my sign up link:

HELP!!!
I signed up to StumbleUpon a couple of months ago, but signed in for the first time today to try and figure it out. It has my old website on it, and I cannot figure out how or where to change it. Can it be changed? Or should I close the account and rejoin?
Another question for the "experts" - I added an RSS feed to my Facebook and Yuwie sites (very easy and successful thanks to Jenny/Inspirepub). I am trying to install one on my MySpace profile page. I add the application, but then the feed appears blank on my page. GRRRRR..... Any tips/hints?
Mucho Gracias, Steph
Shirley,
Got ya now! You are talking about account name or nick. No, I don't think you can change it, you need to create another one. While you have a nice photo over there, you don't have anything else, and it will not hurt you in any way.
Thx, Misha. I'll close it and start over....then I'll be back to get other's names to add to my friends list.
http://shirleyanderson.stumbleupon.com/
Okay, set up another account using a different email addy. I'm really not sure what I'm doing, but it looks pretty easy to add friends, so I think I can handle that. I can poke around and learn more and add more details to my profile later.
I added everyone as a friend who listed a Stumble account in this forum....I haven't figured out yet how to do the fan thing, but I will.
Thx to everyone who added me, and helped me.
I think this is a wonderful idea! I think I have already befriended all who have posted on this forum at least, but may have missed someone...so if I did, let me know.

I am new to this topic. How can I be joined to...

On Stumble, are we allowed to list our own hubs or is that illegal?
I put one on, whilst trying to figure things out, and now I can't delete it, so too late.
Shirley, like a lot of these sites, Stumbleupon officially prohibits self-promotion - although I must say, I had to dig a bit to find their terms and conditions at all!
However, in practice, most people seem to get away with stumbling a few of their own Hubs, provided they're only a small percentage of the total Stumbled.
Participation is key. I'll confess I've "stumbled" a link or two to websites of mine, BUT, I participate frequently at stumbleupon and that is important. If all we're doing is submitting our own stuff and voting for it, then it IS spammy and that's not what I'm advocating.
Maybe eventually we could establish some sort of system where we submit the hubs that OTHER hubbers wrote and have that reciprocated back? Just a thought. But for now, please don't just submit your own stuff- take it seriously and vote up/digg/submit other material...i.e. participate. The more you participate, the better your reputation will be which will help you when you DO get around to submitting a hub/article!
FYI- I went through and friended people on all the sites again...but there are still many people I'm the "fan" of because they haven't "fanned" me back, like on stumbleupon and twitter, for example.
Whew--just read this entire thread and can see that I am woefully "socially challenged" I better get bizeeeeee.
In the meantime, I am "pinkpackrat" on Digg,Stumbleupon,Blogatiser and Top Hubs. BTW does anyone ever visit Top Hubs? Many of you are already my friends on these sites--but if not, find me next time you're there and friend me and I'll friend you back.
I have a Facebook page--in fact I have two--but never use the site. Maybe I should. The most used facebook page is under the name of "Stone Maiden" and the avatar is the same as on the other sites.
I don't know how you all do it. I have a hard enough time finding time to write hubs and participate a bit in the bookmarking sites I do belong to. Hat's off--especially to you, Misha
This is a great idea.
Of course, I hope people will friend me here on hubpages.
On facebook, I'm at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=756774703
Digg: http://digg.com/users/nemock
And I'm @nemock on twitter
The real list is much, much longer than that, but I'll be happy to make new friends on the core sites anyway. ;-)
Dave
Desert Blondie, I'm with you! I was totally lost on this.
I joined/used SOCIALPOSTER.com to send a story out to various sites at once.
I learned a whole lot from all of you on this thread.
I never could figure out how Misha got so many fans without writing hubs. Now I know.
Maybe this is why I never let my fan total catch up to my hub total? Like a race.
Nah, it's more likely because I'm a pretentious bastard! LOLOL!
I'll start friending you all.
I'm funktuall on Youtube and those videos are driving lots of traffic for me.
LOL I never made a secret about it - what goes around, comes around
Yes, the videos help drive traffic for me as well!
And as an added bonus, I get paid a little more on the side at revver.com (and if you work it right, at metacafe.com) just for people watching my video (and I get more if the click on the ad). Pretty sweet setup.
DJ, I'll try to find you on those sites and friend you. Can you post links to your profiles on those websites that you use?
Hi,
could you help me out please. What is socialposter.com and how does it work.
Also when you get the code generation, how is one to use it?

Speaking of youtube, I just received a sort of funny and weird message there. The person who posted it was looking for a date, but do not know how they thought I was a man? Anyway, that was some interesting spam.
This is a good idea if - as mentioned by others - it's done the right way. I also think it is a good idea to start sharing others hubs or blogs that you see. I do admit I have to get more active in other communities. I've signed up for a few but don't have the time to participate in all. Right now HubPages is my home and I will and am slowly expanding that. It really takes more time than I thought!
So, I will be coming back and just friending (or whatever) each person I see. Thanks all for sharing. Also, not sure if you know there's a new social blogmarking site in beta...

For those who are interested, here's a hub I created about making money using revver video.
That might help those of you who didn't know much about revver video. Like I said before, putting revver video onto your hub is a WIN-WIN situation. First, you win because your hub's rank and authority are increased with a (good, relevant) video or two in it. Because it's got a higher rank, you'll get more traffic which should give you more ad income from your hub.
Second, you win because you earn money on revver's website because people will be viewing your video and hopefully clicking on the ad there as well! You'll get income from both Hubpages (from the hub) and revver (from the video).

I see opinion is divided over the merits of such actions...but it is still fun to have a healthy network of friends on social bookmarking sites.
In my post a few days ago, I completely forgot to mention I am on Reddit! I'm not convinced it's worth much for hubbers though...

Dorsi, glad you got to know our cats! And yes, my wife and I both shoot the videos. What's amazing to think about is that every month I get about $0.25 per video (for the good ones) and I don't have to do anything! I spend about an hour shooting and sharing the video and each month I get some money for just sitting there!
More videos to come...!
I don't really remember now - I dropped onlywire from my tools more than half a year ago. I remember after getting some problems with it I made a test that showed it reliably posts to THREE sites out of dozen plus advertised...
Yes I went to OnlyWire and signed up for the bookmarking sites they suggested- but when signing up for the sites I saw some negative feeback about OnlyWire- that if you subscribed to it and they found out they would drop your account, because alot of spammers are using it- so I'm looking at a different utility- I'm not going to use OnlyWire. I don't need to start out getting banned from sites!
Does anyone use SocialMarker? I think it is similiar to OnlyWire.
Yes, I've used social marker in the past. I'm sure it's similar.
But I'll stress that I've "lightly" used it as I don't want to get banned myself. And I also try to get on all the websites individually and bookmark things I'd like to save for myself, not just for business. If all you do is go in and post links back to your site (or sites), you will get flagged eventually, so I try to do as much natural bookmarking and participation on there.
I looked at socialmarker and socialposter and did not find them convenient enough. I used lazeelinks for some time, but then they died. So I bought bookmarkingdemon http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/4896?page=2#post44853 . It took me a while to tune it up correctly, and now I'm pretty much happy with what it does
I had a look at this the first time you mentioned it and it does look good. I'm experimenting with not buying products and as a newbie I'm also experimenting with what I don't have to buy. But I suppose at some point I'll need to take the plunge..
I've used SocialMarker and it works well, very smooth.
I am with you WeddingConsultant. I do wonder, and have heard rumblings, that some bookmark sites are banning posts and accounts submitted using these bookmark utilities like SocialMarker. II would use it 'lightly'.
BTW, let me join the friending mix. I will start friending those here as well.

Hi, I added you at digg and on stumbleupon.
For some reason your reddit link gives 404. Stumbleupon, too - but I managed to get over it there
Sorry if I copied the wrong link. My username is Tranndee on everything but Facebook and FriendFeed where I am just Tracey Patterson. :>)
Thanks for friending. I'm friending you back, (Oh all the new verbs!)
I better get cracking - this is a fantastic idea. I'll collect all of my one or two! other sites and add you guys.
OK I've pretty much gone though and added as many of all of your links as possible (everyone that gave links here) For those that gave names and not links that will be next step- (but it's a lot easier for people to add if you give your links- just keep an open message here on this thread then go and open up your sites in tabbed browsing if you have it)
This is time very well spent -
this will help us get to know one another better and help each other. Wonderful idea.
Wow, what a great idea! I did add many friends but I am still pretty new to this whole hub thing so I only have an acount with digg so far so if you want to be my friend as well here is my profile:
http://digg.com/users/alessadry
Nice to meet all of you!
How do I send a message out to other hubbers on Digg to get them to Digg my post?
I can't find the button for it.
Thanks.
You want to 'send a shout' to the person.
When you log in, go to your profile. Then open the link to your friends and choose the one you want to send a shout to. At the top right of the next screen is a link to "send shout". when you click that it directs you down to small box to type your message and enter the digg url link. When your done below the box it a link to send the request..... hit "shout it"
your all done.

Loopster.
Please do not send me any more emails advertising your latest hubs.
If you knew me at all, you would know I am not a big fan of affiliate marketers and many of their techniques (see above)
I do not sell affiliate products in the way you are suggesting. And I have no particular interest in doing so.
Thanks
Mark,
Sorry about that. I PM'ed 2 people I hadn't "met" yet on HubPages, then thought better and stopped.
The post is removed.
Cheers all,
Loopster
Loopster, I don't think affiliate marketing has much to do with the conversation on this thread. Maybe you can post that elsewhere? I'm speaking for myself here, but it's just a little spammy to post that kind of stuff, especially on this thread and esp. since I haven't interacted with you before (and I suspect most others on this thread haven't interacted with you much either).
Well, never mind then! Looks like your original post was removed. Thank you moderators!
I finally think that I am getting the hang of Digg. All those that sent me a shout out and I didn't respond to, would you mind doing it again. Sorry. I didn't realize that I could write a comment so I was just digging it. Oops, my bad.
Once again I apologize.
Actor, you are spamming the forums, remove your affiliate link please
If you've been reading this thread & have no idea what people are talking about....then this e-book is for you!

Few hubbers are stealing the content of other hubbers and posting it on other sites by different usernames. I have published a hub on 20th August and within few hours this material was posted on blogspot by someone just changing few words in the title. I know the name of hubber but don't want to...

Sounds like there are lots of changes going on, and it seems that many Hubbers are discouraged. If you were starting from scratch on the site, would you still put in the effort to build your portfolio of hubs here, or would you write primarily for other sites?

I will be completing 50 hubs here shortly. Hubapges is the only platform that I've written on. My question is, should I go to other writing sites and publish there, or should I continue writing more hubs here exclusively to earn more money. more hubs=more income? If I should write elsewhere, what...
