I'll hazard a guess here: Because he harbored some perverse pleasure in being the creator of the absolute worst song ever? Maybe?

It's OK. Try humming some classical music while you meditate.

I think any music featured on the Disney Channel will also be featured on the soundtrack of Hell.  Its seriously beyond irritating.

"We Built this City" by Starship is another worthy selection.

          WE built this city,
We built this city on rock and roll x2

Say you don't know me, or recognize my face
Say you don't care who goes to that kind of place
Knee deep in the hoopla, sinking in your fight
Too many runaways eating up the night

          Marconi plays the Mamba,
          Listen to the radio
          Don't you remember?
          We built this city
We built this city on rock and roll!
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

          Someone always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names
We just want to dance here, someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page

          Marconi plays the Mamba,
          Listen to the radio
          Don't you remember?
          We built this city
We built this city on rock and roll!
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

It's just another Sunday, in a tired old street
Police have got the choke hold, ohhhhh and we just lost the beat

Who counts the money ,underneath the bar
Who rides the wrecking ball into our guitars
Don't tell us you need us, 'cause we're the ship of fools
Looking for America, crawling through your schools

          Don't you remember ...

          Marconi plays the Mamba,
          Listen to the radio -
          Don't you remember?
          We built this city,
We built this city on rock and roll
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

We built, we built this city yeah
          We built this city
We built, we built this city

I met a devil woman, she took my heart away
She said I had it comin' to me, but I wanted it that way
I think that any love is good lovin'
And so I took what I could get, mmm
Oooh, oooh, she looked at me with big brown eyes
    And said

    You ain't seen nothin' yet
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet
Here's something that you never gonna forget
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet

And now I'm feelin' better, 'cause I found out for sure
She took me to her doctor and he told me of a cure
He said that any love is good love
So I took what I could get, yes, I took what I could get
Oooh, and she looked at me with big brown eyes
    And said

    You ain't seen nothin' yet
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet
Here's something, here's something that you're never gonna forget
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet
    You need educated

    [break]

    Any love is good love
So I took what I could get, yes, I took what I could get
And then, and then, and then she looked at me with big brown eyes
    And said

    You ain't seen nothin' yet
Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet
    Here's something, here's something,
here's something, mama, you're never gonna forget
    B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nu-nu-nu-nothin' yet
    You ain't been around

    You ain't seen nothin' yet
    I know I ain't seen nothin' yet
    I know I ain't seen nothin' yet

A vacation in a foreign land
Uncle Sam does the best he can
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Now you remember what the draftsman said
Nothing to do all day but stay in bed
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

You be the hero of the neighborhood
Nobody knows that you left for good
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Smiling faces as you wait to land
But once you get there no one gives a damn
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Hand grenades flying over your head
            Missiles flying over your head
If you want to survive get out of bed
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Shots ring out in the dad of night
The sergeant calls (stand up and fight)
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

You've got your orders better shoot on sight
            Your finger's on the trigger
            But it don't seem right
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Night is falling and you just can't see
            Is this illusion or reality
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now
            You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Some of the songs I find annoying (but only most of the time though and NOT all the time) include

    for the cliched lyrics:
I am the flower you are the seed
      We walked in the garden
      We planted a tree
    - all i wanna do is make love to you by heart

    for leaving me hanging:
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
I would do anything for love,
But I wont do that, I wont do that! (me: won't do what?!?!?!)
    - i'll do anything for love by meatloaf

    and for their extreme popularity:
my heart will go on by celine dion
i will always love you by whitney houston
      macarena by los del rio

So i just looked it up on Wikipedia, and this is what I found:
                Perceived ambiguity of "that"

Each verse mentions two things that he would do for love, followed by one thing that he will not do. The title phrase repetition reasserts that he "won't do that" previously stated one thing. Each mention of "that" is a reference to the particular promise that he made earlier in the same verse.
Jimmy always said, "You know what? Nobody's gonna get it." And he was right.
                —-Meat Loaf[9]

                    * "But I'll never forget the way you feel right now ..."
                    * "But I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight ..."
                    * "But I'll never do it better than I do it with you ..."
                    * "But I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life ..."

In addition, the female vocalist predicts two other things that he will do: "You'll see that it's time to move on" and "You'll be screwing around". To both of these, he emphatically responds, "I won't do that!"

That crazy Bird Is The Word song. My husband and I saw/heard it on The Family Guy one time and he (my husband) wouldn't stop singing it for days. Verrrry irritating after a while. smile

I remember once upon a time, back in my middle school years, my monotone music teacher used to sing two songs over and over again. I don't quite know the titles:

"La lala la la, la la lala lala la la la lalala...Sing. Sing a song. Make it simple to last the whole day long..."

    and

"Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing. Where have all the flowers gone long time ago."

Ahhhhhhhh! Still brings back painful memories!

If a song is THAT annoying, I don't stick around long enough to investigate it's atrocious origins.

Have you ever heard Weird Al's version of Achybreaky Heart. It's called the Achybreaky song. It's Halarious, and totally fits this category. Because it pokes fun at irritating music.

      Here's a verse

      Play some tiffany
      on 8 track or CD
or scrape your fingernails across chalkboard

or tie me to a chair
and kick me down the stairs
just please don't play that stupid song no more!

      Don't play that song
      That Achybreaky song
I think it's driving me insane

Oh please don't play that song
      that irritating song
I'd rather have a pitchfork in my brain!

      Wooo--oooooo!!!

This is the song that never ends...
It just goes on and on my friends...
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was...
And they'll continue singing it forever just because...
