Amusing Names

   Working in an archive with the last wills and testaments of everyone who has died in England and Wales, I came across some amusing names of the deceased. 
   
   These included:
   
   Fanny Grewcock
   Davy Crockett Gay-Comings
   The surname of Pinecoffin
   and a Dick Head
   
   I also once worked with a Sandy Camps
   
   Are there any other amusing names out there?

   I have failed to mention my own surname.  It was Sharp, but as I am the last in the line of both my mother's and father's family, and as I have no brothers or sisters, and will not be having children, I decided to combine my mother's and father's surnames to make a double-barrelled one. As a result, I am now Sharp-Tongue.  At least both names will now continue for as long as I do.

   I wrote an entire hub about this! As a southerner and a retired teacher, I've seen LOTS of amusing names. Some of these names result from the old southern tradition of giving a family surname as a middle name, as in Mary Eates Dix. Eates was the mother's surname before marriage. We also have a urologist in town named Dr. Peters. If I had married one of my old boyfriends, my name would have been Holle Cook Potts.

   These two boys, with the surname Mycock, were called Aaron and Wharton!

      How about the inventor of the flushing toilet, Thomas Crapper?  There's also a gravestone I saw for a man called John Thomas. Did Thomas Crapper come from the Kentish village of Pratt's Bottom? These were real men, and the village is real, so is Mucking in Essex. There's more where that came from...
      At the other end of the scale is Eva Brick, the smash and grab robber, or Mike Atsill the vet.

    I grew up in a small town of about 500 people, and I can remember three men named Harry Barry, Charlie Brown, and the last who was a minister--Reverend Butt...
    
    Once I was at a hospital, and heard a page for "Dr. Doctor", lol.

    My grandmother worked as a school secretary and had a Bunker Hill enroll. There was also the Rabbit family: Peter and Bunny were the kids' names.

    I was in the Army stationed at Fort Bragg in 1975-1978.  One of the officers had Seargeant as a last name.  The problem was that he was a lieutentant (sp) so he was Lieutentant Seargeant.  It was hard to address him without a smile.  Thankfully we only had to call him Lieutentant.

    I had a teacher at school called Mr. Cockburn pronounced Coburn. But everyone called him Cock-burn anyway. Definitely think he was in the wrong job.
