You didn't make a point.  You asked a question.  tongue

Still waiting for that point. You've provided a question followed by a statement. Care to elaborate?

the forum will survive as long as other people actively go in to reiterate how it lacks a goal. Or I guess it actually has the goal of not having a goal when I think about it.lol

Forums don't operate on goals, they rely on topics.

Would you say, then, that the goal of a forum is to be populated with topics? wink

      Yes, you could.

Maybe it's about "purpose" rather than "goal".

What is the purpose of this forum? To equip its users with skills and to communicate with the members.

A goal could be "we want our forum to be the biggest ever!". But what is the purpose of that?

How deep can we get? Good one Charlotte! This forum here has the goal and purpose of fellowship...As long as anyone is interested in another viewpoint and well being it will survive. It proved it's worth just recently when one was supposedly gone and not real at all. Everyone banded together when one of us had trouble with "spammers" and "hubthieves". It also acted like a real family when one was trying to ram an opinion...Hubpages Forum is doing just fine with it's established "GOAL"...and great people...
    my 2 cents worth ZS

I agree with your comments. Then why are some people so negative on the "Other Topics" in the forum areas (Art, Automotive, Business, etc...). Isn't the goal to find people with similar viewpoints and interests?

    Yes.

Goal?  We don't need no steenkin' goal.  Unless it involves a ball.  And a team.  In which case, this is the wrong forum

totally agree with you....I'm so relieved that its a forum without a goal...I quite enjoy 'not knowing' what it is I'm moving towards!

I suppose I should chime in since I started the mess.  My "goal" or "topic" if you will was to see if a forum topic that was created about nothing specific would have activity and would "thrive."

It seems like that is the case, based on the many posted responses.

Zsuzsy Bee, I really liked what you said about forums- I agree that it's more of a social community where we band together and help one another.  There are other purposes, but that is one of it's chief functions, I'd say!

      Do you mean "thread topic"?

Because "forum" encompasses the entire forum. And if that's what you're talking about then it's a different discussion entirely.

I just think it's funny to see the different forum topics on here and how we, as a hubpages community, get so into them.  It's a great community, I love it.

This reminds me of a game we used to play when I was younger.  We would pick up a piece of stone or bit of stick from the ground and all take turns deciding what it wasn't.

We could spend hours deciding what it wasn't and the whole thing was about as pointless as all this conversation.  But then it is fun to make no sense at all occasionally isn't it?

Much to do about nothing comes to mind. But then again it must be something or I wouldn't be replying. Kinda like buying words isn't Mark?

If I can get all "mushy" on everyone, I think that having a forum thread about nothing thrive is a testament to how graceful the hubpages community is as a whole!
