Copied Content-No Excuse

   I decided to see how easy it was to prevent content from being copied.  I did a quick search and found sites with codes to copy and paste onto your site.  It took me 15 minutes to do one of my sites.  Now neither my content or photos can be copied.  I am not computer saavy, so if it was that easy for me, how easy would it be for HP to do the same and prevent content from being copied
   
   I have the code if anybody has a Weebly site.

         There is at least one hub on how to override it.  It's really not difficult.

   Linda does this code just disable right clicking on the page or highlighting text?
   
   This might dissuade the laziest of copiers, but unless the page source is hidden then the content can still be easily copied

      Yes. This. Exactly. Any idiot can view the page source to copy text. In fact, in some cases, it's faster to copy a page this way, because it also swipes the addresses of all the images.

   Disables right clicking. You can highlight it as if you are going to copy it, but when you right click, nothing happens. It works on images too! Only thing is that these codes may not work on all browsers, but they do work on Chrome and Firefox.  Right click on page and nothing happens either.

      If the work can still be highlighted then it might be worth testing to see of ctrl-x, ctrl-c and ctrl-v work or not

      All I do with mine is put it in the footer of my sites on Weebly.
      Some are strictly  for CSS.
      
      The thing is they couldn't use a code here.  There is no reason that HP could not do coding to prevent copying of hubs.
      
      I read what you posted.  Lame!!! A person could simply write down a few sentences or maybe write down some notes.
      
      Seriously, how many people would take the time or have the ability to disable anything.  Those who want to copy, want to do just that, copy and run.

         This is the reason already mentioned above:
         You don't even need to be technically proficient to simply  view and copy the page source.
         Which can be done with 2 clicks on Chrome.

      +1 -- I agree with HP policy on this one. You can have so much control that you mess things up for people. Fortunately, HP has to consider everyone, including, of course, visitors.

   Oh well.  You don't have to be a professional thief to steal a car or break into someones home, but if deterrents are in place, at least you have some protection, instead of leaving your house wide open, doors unlocked because even if locked, somebody can get in.
   
   
   I know that I have been on sites that you can't copy a letter from it. Others you can't even highlight anything.
   
   I will stick with using the codes I have in place.

   You can disable right clicking. However, if you highlight the text you only need to go into file on your browser and copy from there.

         All of the content from the three websites listed on your profile are able to have the content copied using right-click on Firefox. 
         
         Are you sure what you did is actually stopping anything?

         Sure, if you also want to deter people from using word of mouth to bring you lots of profitable traffic, increase loading times, and cause browser-specific glitches. Those of us who choose not to use these techniques have our reasons. I think it annoys real users and is just a red flag to scrapers

   relache: Not all 3 have the code. But the ones that do, I can't right click and copy anything from 2 of the browsers I tried, Chrome and Firefox.
   
   It is not my computer because I tried the right click to copy on other things.

   There are firefox extensions and all sorts of things that will bypass any of the no right click code unfortunately.  Most thieves use scraping software that grabs the code so lines of codes may be a deterrent to your random copy and paste person, but are unfortunately not likely to do much for those who scrape content for a "living".  It seems like a lot of effort for not much reward honestly.

   I am slowly warming to the idea that a right-click copy disable and warning might not be a bad idea for HubPages. I understand it won't stop the determined scrapers. But it may stop some people who don't know any better.
   
   I don't worry as much about some jerk who scrapes my content to build some garbage website that will never rank for anything and disappear in a few months. Those people are dealt with easily enough.
   
   I do worry about people with legitimate niche websites who post my content because they think it is interesting. They aren't out to steal from me, and sometimes they even think they are doing me a favor. They just don't understand that it's wrong, and that they are hurting the original writer when they do this. These are the people who have given me the most grief.
   
   I think a right-click disable and copyright warning will prevent these people from taking my content. Most are honest enough not to want to violate copyright if they realize they are doing it, and some aren't savvy enough to know how to copy the code.
   
   Of course some people are just going to do what they will do and there is nothing that will stop them.

    Whatever we do, it looks like these people who copy have a way of bypassing these. There mustbe a way to, at least, make it nor worth their time.

    Loading time has not changed.  Word of mouth travels for DMCA reports too! 
    
    Glitches???  I don't know of any site with more glitches and bugs than HP right now!

    Well, there should be a disabling/ locking of our content, this does not detract from a  readers experience (in my opinion). We should have the option to lock our content, it is our personal thoughts, energy and mind that went into producing a piece,it becomes part of your soul.
    
    A content thief thinks nothing of this.
    
    Personally I would like to have a "LOCK" featured so my content was not able to be copied.
