This is posted in hopes of being able to further investigate this phenomena and know exactly why it is occurring more frequently, or at least being reported more frequently. If this has happened to you, please share your experience with everyone. You may want to learn more on this subject by visiting one of Team Wisemans article called Mysterious Scratches. These scratches appear from nowhere and are usually three thin scratch marks. Team Wiseman

Let's see, 3 thin scratch marks....People do scratch themselves in their sleep, but this appears to me, that those people who claim to have 3 thin scratch marks when they wake up, must own a pet...Puppies, and kittens will leave scratch marks on a person, every time....Or an adault cat...

It's funny how believers are adamant you can never get something from nothing? Curious.

      Team Wiseman,

Can you supply a couple of "accounts" of this phenomena?

I've been following through the thread and there is some side-tracking - on to "demon possession" and things but what I'm interested in is JUST incidents that have been reported on this scratching phenomena.

If you wake up in the morning with mysterious scratches, it's probably due to the medical conditions  Bartonella or Scabies.  You should see a dermatologist.

I have the exact same thing. It's been bothering me for years, not knowing. Just got it diagnosed: it's the Herpes virus! Different strain than what causes cold sores on lips, but same virus. Sometimes appears as a rash somewhere on the body. Usually brought on by stress. Nothing you can do about it, except reduce stress in your life, or get an over-the-counter herpes medication to cut the healing time down by a few days. So happy I finally know what it is- people have been blaming my cat for years, but I knew it wasn't him.

I get a lot of these types of questions on my dream interpretation website - fundamentalist Christians who think the devil is attacking them in their sleep. It's very sad that their minds have been so poisoned.

I had one woman who said she was locking her 4 year old in her bedroom every night because the girl saw green eyes in the window and mum was convinced this was a demon - not just a bad dream or a cat which would have been the more logical interpretation. What kind of mess is she making of that child's life!? Very worrying....

BTW - I often see my husband having a good scratch in his sleep - it's quite normal!

But really, if your itchy and busy you might scratch yourself absent mindedly. I never ever heard of this as a religous thing. I have heard of The Virgin Mary showing up in a sunbeam at a pizza place, but not this.

(see why I don't stick around after my little blurbs about first hand experience?) I will say that if reasoning that something is not there for our inability to see it with our eyes, we should allow the thermographic footage taken by researchers in this field to be considered suitable proof. Or do we not believe in heat? what if the source of the heat touches the body on camera then immediately scratches appear? or will the adage remain... For the skeptic no proof is enough and for the believer none is needed?

ok, let's say demons are real. that means they are very powerful beings, yes?

now, if they enter people's bodies, there would be no room for doubt when you looked at them. i watched that video. a possessed man screamed in a human voice, not a demonic voice. so did that "possessed" woman behind that door.

they were also able to be restrained...if an evil supernatural force was inhabiting their body, they would fling people across the room like matchsticks and speak in a voice that sounded like Joan Rivers talking through a mechanical voicebox or something.

plus their eyes would be all red and glowing. SOMEthing to let their malevolent presence be known.

these "possessed" people are either attention seekers or crazy, or both.

p.s. i woke up last week with a bunch of scratches on me...my shoulder, my arms and my clavicle. i thought 'hmm', then remembered that i had pruned a bougainvelia shrub the day before, which is very thorny, and i got scratched when i was pruning it but was so intent on my work i didn't even notice when i got scratched.

Well Cosette, there are different types of demons and some are stronger than others.

The Vatican exorcisms are not allowed to be recorded. However, you (or some expert) will have to watch hundreds of exorcisms until you run into a really nasty case.

For example, 7 demons possessed a 20 year old girl in Spain in the early 2000s. Father Jose Antonio Fortea began an exorcism and convinced 6 of the demons to leave. However, the chief demon Zebulon is the last one remaining. I believe he stated that out of all of the exorcisms, Zebulon has been involved in only 3 of them (that they know of) including one that the Chief Exorcist (who taught Father Fortea) was involved with.

"...Zebulon, an almost mute but very intelligent demon. His name is in the Bible."

Now this exorcism is extreme. Eyes rolling in the back of her head and staying there throughout the exorcism, levitation, hands appearing to turn into talons and hooks, the girl speaking with a strong male voice, mind reading, reciting of the bible word for word on command, providing answers to questions the girl would never know, and so on.

Below is a link to detailed accounts of this exorcism.

I emailed Father Fortea over the weekend asking for video of this exorcism (since he stated that one of the sessions were secretly recorded without his knowledge in another interview) and he responded and stated that Martha is still possessed almost 8 years later and the exorcisms continue.

Accurate details, But for me the names of these things are more than devices by which to refer to them, I do not utter them. Even if that makes me seem foolish or superstitious, there are things we do not understand and I for one believe that even the Known powers that are greater than us are quite dangerous. Some people who have experienced these kinds of things report illnesses all the rest of their lives. As well as re-possession cases resulting in death by fatigue. None for me thanks.

Demons are very real. They hide in dark places. When a man or owman is possessed by a demon, it isn't with red firey eyes. They don't always talk lots of unintelligble dialog. Some are very subtle when possessing a body.

There are times when scratches don't show up right away.

I agree SirDent. Per the chief Exorcist:

"Father Amorth told La Repubblica that the devil was "pure spirit, invisible. But he manifests himself with blasphemies and afflictions in the person he possesses. He can remain hidden, or speak in different languages, transform himself or appear to be agreeable. At times he makes fun of me."

It did not prove the scratches don't come from demons. it also doesn't prove they do. I only know what I know and in the hyears I have spent working in construction, I know a little about scratches.

It is possible, I suppose, that demons could cause scratches to appear. I have no real clue as to whether it is true or not.

For some people who are possessed, attacks from invisible forces, knocking over of furniture, loud banging noises, and so on served as precursors to these events.

Just wondering, earnestshub - have you ever had a close friend experience something like what is being discussed here?

Just wondering if you've had a bad experience with something along these lines which causes you to very much (just an observation, no judgment here) minimize such a topic down to "there is no verifiable proof" statements.

I have experienced friends who have felt they have seen ghosts, encountered strange entities, experienced strange events. I don't know whether or not these things have explanations but I have always tried to "tend to" the fact that people I know are experiencing SOMETHING...their feelings seem very real to me. Certainly if fear is present, I am concerned at certain times and do not "minimize" what a friend is going through if I can at all help it.

I don't know if, in treating matters this way, I'm "enabling" a friend or being considerate and understanding...but I usually feel compelled to listen to a full "account" of a strange event without interrupting or anything...

Just wondering what your viewpoint here is - or if you've had to deal with anything "unexplained" via friends, family, etc

      1. earnestshub profile image80
earnestshubposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I have had several experiences of friend having these experiences as I feel most people would have. A memorable one happened in Malaysia. (Lots of ghosts in Malaysia)
The ghosts were occupying a gulley where they needed to put a freeway.

The guy I was consulting to "moved" them. Made him 9 million dollars out of the road contract he was granted. A nice rich little ghost story for you. smile I have others but all were explainable to me at least. smile

The reason I state there is no proof for religious beliefs is just a matter of looking yourself, reading the tomes and seeing the psychosis for what it is. There is no proof. Why not say so?

Yikes, I clicked on the exorcism video you had posted and it freaked me out. I don't know why, but now I seriously have the creeps.

The scratchy thing - I don't know. Something may have been itching while asleep and that would account for natural reaction of scratching?

Demonic Scratches are happening all over the world, so many comments from the afflicted. I wrote the article "Waking Up with Unexplained Scratches on My Body"  in the hopes that I wasn't crazy and to find out if I was alone... I wasn't.

Thank you for the interest in our articles.
