Three things to remember--keep the colon active--eat only good healthy foods--get lots of fresh air.
1. Take a colon cleanser (psyllium hulls). When the colon becomes blocked, the body absorbs all the rotton, soured, processed filth back into the body and makes you sick. Get it out of the colon in short order, so that it won't happen to you again.
2. Eat healthy food: protein rich food, green leafy vegetables and some fruit is what the body really needs. You can get plenty of calcium from the green leafy vegetables, so you may not need much, if any, dairy. Stay away from starchy foods: wheat, corn, peanuts and sweets. These items raise blood sugar and contribute to dissease, since they are fungal forming foods.
3. Taking in plenty of fresh air and occasionaly sunshine is still a healthy practice, not only for the body, but for the soul as well.
Improving your health can come from a number of places and can mean differing things to different people. There are some steps that I believe everyone should follow as a basic rule for improving a generally unhealthy lifestyle.
1. Drinking plenty of water. The recommended amount of water a day is around 8 glasses (and I'm NOT talking shot glasses!).
2. Eating as much fruit and vegetables as you can. However don't forget red meat fish and chicken as they all contain things essential to the bodies needs.
3. Take a vitamin supplement. There are so many out there but try to find vitamins that contain 100% of what they say is in the capsule. Many vitamins available in health stores and chains like Walmart don't contain 100% of the vitamin that you are paying for.
4. Try to walk everywhere you can. Walk the kids to school or walk to work. If you have a bike use this instead of the car for short journeys. Any way to get your heart pumping and blood flowing is good for your body.
5. Limit your alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can seriously damage organs vital to your wellbeing!
6. Get 8 hours sleep! Getting our recommended 8 hours a night is also vital to letting your bodies cells regenerate. Sleep should not be put off for anything except the most vital actions.
7.Slow Down! We live in a 24/7 world but sometimes it all gets a bit too much. Let yourself relax and go for a walk or do something that gets you to relax, like reading a book.
8. And finally, have a good social life. Social interaction is vital to not just your physical health but also your mental health and the two really go hand in hand. Try to make time for friends and family and try not to be too busy to 'have a life'.
I believe following just a few of these things will dramatically improve the health of any individual who follows them.
Here's a guide on how you can improve your health. Five important tips included. http://hubpages.com/hub/Improve-Your-Health
Lot's of great answers here and I will not write a big long story on how to improve health but all I can say is exercise and diet!! These are two of the most important things you can do to improve your health.
Healthy Living is a lifesyle. Eating a balanced diet, plenty of exercise, and enough sleep. There are other factors to consider as well, the quality of air we are breathing whether at work, home, or gym. Think of all the germs we bring home to our families from work and the sweaty gyms, Also what about the the quality of our drinking water either municipal or well water it's all so full of chlorine and contaminents. If any of this interests you visit my website at www.healthysolutions4us.com and also look for posts from Eco Enlightenment. Thank you for your interest.
I agree with everyone who suggested walking. It is amazing what walking can do for you.
Please check out my personal experiences from Finland for some inspiration:

The single most important factor in health is to think about what you are putting into your body. People know so little about nutrition and often take what they eat for granted. Products being marketed as "Healthy" are actually not.
Wheat Thins Crackers for example are marketed as "Whole Grain" and healthy. But they are full of junk - trans fats, sodium, BHT, BLEACHED FLOUR is NOT WHOLE GRAIN!.
Ingredients: WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT FLOUR, ENRICHED BLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE {VITAMIN B1}, RIBOFLAVIN {VITAMIN B2}, FOLIC ACID), SOYBEAN OIL, SUGAR, CORNSTARCH, OAT FIBER, GOLDEN FLAX SEED, WHOLE GRAIN BARLEY FLAKES, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, RICE, SALT, MOLASSES, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA AND/OR CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), MODIFIED CORNSTARCH, MONOGLYCERIDES, ONION POWDER, CRACKED WHOLE WHEAT, WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, DEGERMED YELLOW CORN MEAL, MALTED BARLEY SYRUP, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR. CONTAINS: WHEAT. BHT ADDED TO PACKAGING MATERIAL TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS.
Cut down on sugar and sweetened processed foods, don't smoke, don't drink alcoholic beverages, don't overload on work, get enough sleep, stay close to family and friends, Keep tabs on how many calories you are getting from sugar and other useless foods. Balance your protein and carbohydrate intake. Eat when you're hungry only. Drink WATER for hydration, there's a reason God made WATER! Be a positive person especially when conversing with friends and family. Get out often and/or stay busy even if on the internet. Don't get trapped into unpleasant relationships. Don't break hearts. Don't go out with married people. Don't have oral sex with multiple partners, seek a monogamous relationship. Give more than you take (of good things). Don't hoard, (share). Do something nice for someone at least once a day, hug someone at least once a day. Smile at children and older folks. Take a shower everyday, change your underwear. Don't touch things and than touch your mouth etc. or vise versa, wash your hands often, cough into the crook of your arm or use a hankie or kleenex not your hand. Thanks and have a safe and healthy day. Check out my hubs from silverlining5- It's all good the list can be endless.
being healthy has many facets. it is about being able to maintain energy levels to get through your day and to prevent illness.
eat well- low fat, balanced diet, more fish less red meat
exercise- regularly both aerobic for fitness and resistance for strength and to prevent osteoporosis
maintain a healthy weight- prevent being part of the 'diabesity' (diabetes and obesity) epidemic
sleep well- at least 7 hours a night
don't smoke, don't drink- respet your lungs and liver
be happy- stress is a major factor in increasing your risk of cardio and cerebrovascular disease. being happy will decrease your blood pressure, bad cholesterol and chance of dying from a stroke or heart attack.
