   Either they haven't had any positive experiences with religion or god to begin with. Or they have yet to experience a life changing experience or event  (more often a negative one like a tragedy) to make them want to look for answers beyond what can be found in a book, or on hubpages

   i think  cus they dont have their own god ideas. and they dont  agree with the ideas of god that others have. i tell these types  not to bash but instead to build a better god.

   As a retired minister, I will give you one slant on this and its very deep rooted   fear of the unknown,  It seems people are more comfortable with their own version of a creator than the true Creator. For every good point you raise you challenge them to face the truth and a lot of people are afraid HE will make them do something they do not want to do. They prefer GOD in a box, that way He becomes much easier to control. As for religion its become a crutch (its okay to lean on Him but I'm in control) to many and they fear change of any kind internally. THAT was me before I started to seek God for myself. ITS utterly amazing what God can do with a willing vessel; but as long as people behave like ostriches (hiding their heads in the sand) they will never find that truth unless they earnestly seek HIM.   I truely hope this helps.    What makes you think that it is a quick decision to Bash God or Religion, as you put it ?
   
   Many of us have taken years to reach our conclusions that the root cause of much death and destruction over the centuries and right up to the present day can be laid directly at the feet of organised religion.
   
   Many others will claim that this has nothing to do with them or their God but that is a lie as the history books atest.
   
   There is no God , there never was until man created him, religion is a manmade  power thing and always has been.

   It's not a quick desicion, and it may not be a choice and individual response as much as you might think. Religions have been around for ages, humans as a species, even more. However, both he capability of self examination, and the possibilities and interest to research and discover our past and tracing our evolution in terms of culture, tendencies and thoughts, how our thoughts relate to the world and how we came upon those thoughts, are relatively recent. When doing this we started (I say 'we' as a whole, we humans) to notice repeated patterns with variations throught history and the world. Inside this patterns were beliefs systems, and each of them we've found them to be wrong to our point of view (I'm talking about really ancient cultures), so we can come to the conclussion, or assume with a logical response, without exploring and investigating EVERY single religion that exists or existed, that the trend of believing in and worshipping deities is false from the premise; so whatever variations, details and whatnot that might derive from that false premise will be incorrect or at most incomplete.
   
   Furthermore, this question applies to anyone who even choses a particular religion to begin with. If you want to know what makes someone reject every religion, you could look into and ask yourself why haven't you researched, explored and came up with at least one reason why not to follow any religion that you don't follow, from the present or the past.
   
   Personally, the main reason I don't like religion is that each one says "we're correct and this is THE truth", while science explores and concludes "this is more likely than this or that", and art doesn't even pretend to be true in the first place.

   I see your point spookyfox. Where is your faith? No has faith anymore, being a firm believer in God and the Catholic teachings, it breaks my heart to see so many people who have lost faith because they prefer the "facts" of science instead. It's all about faith.....

    Why are you so quick to assume they are doing it "with out really ever knowing about it to begin..."
    As an atheist, I have studied god and religion and found them all too illogical and just a power play toward those that cannot think for themselves. Read you own religious holy book and actually try to think what the words mean without a preacher, pastor, priest, rabbi, etc forcing their interpretation on you. Use your own brain power to figure out just what all that mumbo jumbo really means. It's nonsense.
    As for faith, that is just an opinion on something, not a fact or even a reasonable deduction. It's just an opinion.

    It's not just religion. It seems as though a large percentage of people form very strong opinions about nearly everything despite a lack of knowledge.
    
    But I don't think it's intentional. No one says "I really don't know much about this, but I'm going to form a really strong opinion about it anyway". I think people are often simply unaware of how little they know. They believe they DO know everything about a subject, be it Religion, Global Warming, the War in Afghanistan, or whatever. It never occurs to them that there might be aspects of which they are totally unaware or misinformed about.

    ...because the people who came before you made general asses of themselves and knowingly or unknowingly committed great evil in the name of Jesus Christ...racism, murder, sexism, oppression...
    
    to name a few.
    
    It's pretty easy to look at the historical record and knock religion without knowing a whole lot about it...from the historical perspective religion looks pretty messed up....
    
    The average person could draw a pretty quick conclusion about the destructive consequences of religion without ever knowing more about it..
    
    This perspective is a valid one and has never honestly been answered by the major religions of our time...namely Christianity and Islam.
