Is the internet overflowing with get rich quick schemes?

   Lately I've been looking on different new ways of making money online. For some reason, I keep stumbling upon get rich schemes, MLM and cheesy ebooks. Do people really buy into them? What's your experience?

      ---You bet they do! People are making a lot of money just by pushing all that scams in affiliate marketing, MLMs and what not. And some naive shmucks (me included)pay their last pennies for a hope to make something without a slightest idea of what they are doing. You can read about my experiences in MLM in my hub "Chasing MLM company... I do not want to promote it here, just if you are indeed interested, you can find it, I did not write that many hubs yet.

      There are sooo many popping up because people are looking to make money fast but almost all of the online money-makers aren't a "get rich quick" variety.
      
      Everyone can make money with affiliate marketing, buying/selling on craigslist/ebay/yard sales and blogging.  But all 3 take time and research.
      
      All the other ones are just plain hokie and want you to buy their product which won't help you make money.

   Yes...I think it is overflowing with get-rich schemes. Personally I think they are just getting rich on their so-called products about getting rich. I don't think that many people who "make it" actually write about it. Certainly if it meant that it might take away from their success. Like giving away SEO strategies...

         I think this is true up to a point, but that's not any different from any other business.  Coke won't give away their recipe, and Bush's lips are sealed about their beans.
         
         I will say that the most honest person I've read and has helped give me a roadmap of where to start is PotPieGirl (awful name, though).  Her site potpiegirl.com has a lot of free info, and it doesn't sound like one of those "gurus" just trying to get you to buy their product.  Yeah, she's selling stuff, but it's like a good honest car salesman (yeah there is such, I used to be one) telling you everything you need to know to make an informed decision.
         
         And, no, I am in no way affiliated with this person, it's just what helps me learn and get motivated.

   There is a TON of junk out there, and most of it isn't worth the time it takes to read or it's just the same repackaged, rehashed take on proven strategies that you can find out about for free if you're willing to wade through the shite.
   
   I think the primary reason for someone to spend money on these things is to save them all that time, but some of it truly is junk.
   
   I have been fortunate to have some friends that got into making money online several years ago, and have been fairly successful with it.  They have let me borrow some of their good stuff to get me up to speed.

   I think most of these people sell you the wrong way of doing things so they can reap the benefits of their knowledge. The longer they keep you in the dark the more suckers they'll get.

   Yes it is overflowing with crooks, making it harder for seekers to find any real offers.
   There are real systems that work well, but it is still up to you to choose the right niche that suits your skills and work hard on it to succeed.

   Most certainly, did you notice that there are so many programs to help you attract more leads, make money without doing anything etc. Just be careful. Millionaires are not made overnight but one can be born a millionaire.Yes.

   Like anything it's 'Buyer Beware'. My rule of thumb is 'If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is' - there's a whole lot of decent ways to make money on the web (I like many wrote a hub on it) - but like anything else in life, it's not easy - it requires a lot of work and dedication!
   
   Now, I must dash and go and collect the four international lottery wins I've received this week, as well as contact that Nigerian Politician who wants me to help him out!

    Have you noticed how many people selling "How to make money" products or writing about how to make money, yes even writing hubs about it, later turn up on forums asking "Why Am I not making money"?

          No I wasn't talking about you, I've never read your hubs. I was thinking more about the people who turn up in the forum wanting to know why their hub about making money on-line hasn't made them any money after 2 days, and they obviously know nothing about SEO or anything else for that matter.
          Same thing on the Warrior forum, guys promoting "Make money in your sleep" products ask question which prove they know nothing. Can't blame them really A lot of us fall for the hype, it's human nature. We'd all like to be rich and if we can do it without working even better. Why else would anyone buy lottery tickets.
          
          Ps. Jackson I just looked at your Hub, good stuff but you might want to fix the typos.

    I think that all these "make money" books and internet sites are for the average income person, what the abs machines are for the coach potatos: a lot of people long for the success but actually are not willing to put in the time, effort and sacrifice it takes to get there. So many people just buy these products in order to feel better and then never use them.
    
    There are statistics out there that of all the self-help books being sold, only 10% actually read them. How sad is this statistic?

          Maybe you're right. But then it's better to inform yourself about the stuff you're going to buy. There are so many reviews on Amazon and similar places that you can already sort out 90% of the trash...
          
          Anyway, I was talking about proven self-help success books (e.g. Tony Robbins), not these lame 'make money' books that are around.

    A get rich qick scheme was what 1st caught my eye on the internet. However i didn't rush to buy, especially when i read somewhere that you can earn online without spending money if you are willing to take the long way around it.
    That was cool by me. But somewhere along the line i parted with about $30 for an ebook. My greatest investment i must say. A great step by step book that somehow landed me first on Squidoo and then on Hubpages.
    Haven't looked back since.

    i think that to every genuine offer there will be 100 scam elsewhere, People want to belive that there is some magical solution to money problems and depending on how well the pitch page is determine's a sale or not.
    If you want to make money online then set up a blog, Publish plenty of content, Spend time driving traffick to your site, have quality and relevent content as to what your viewers want to read. Once you have a following then you could make money via affiliate marketing, Sell your ad space, This all takes time but in the end is will be all worth it, Passive income cannot be beaten

       I agree. There are no magical solutions although being a part of 5 or so good solutions can add up to over $250 a week of passive income, which is generally what people want.

    get rich quick is a fraud.
    
    many know me here as being absolutely honest with my opinions.  I work my butt off and do quite well with affiliate marketing.
    
    It is all about what you are willing to put into your business.  i dont absolutely mean financial either but rather time and effort.
    
    I make money on a daily basis staying away from the so called gurus techniques.
    
    It really is all about what you are willing to do.  You start at the bottom with everything you do and that includes earning online.
    
    So if you are looking to make thousands over the weekend in your pjs then keep looking.  If you are looking to make thousands over time with a lot of hard work and effort then you can do just that.

    The Internet is no different to anywhere else as far as doing business is concerned. There are honest people and there are crooks. It is easier for crooks to succeed because you can't see them eye to eye. It goes without saying the need for extra care when tempted to get involved online!
    No doubt about it, there are loads of junks out there but there are also good genuine information available to help anyone to succeed.
    Most people cannot succeed, I am one of them, is not because they are let down by not getting good instructions. I have tons of courses that tell me what to do, whether to create a Blog website, finding the best and hot selling affiliate products. I paid loads of $'s for them too. I created many websites and wrote a few articles, but I am not making money consistently. Do I blame these Gurus that I bought the products from? No, because I am honest to myself and I know I am not doing what is necessary to make money. Having said that there are one or two so called Gurus out there that I would really like to give a kick up the what's it! The only thing is they are going from strength to strength and raking it in. People are just taken in too easily!

    The Internet is loaded with get-rich-quick schemes, scams and opportunity programs that simply do nothing compared to their claims.
    
    It reminds me of my actual businesses that operate in the U.S., without regards for those they claim to help.
    
    It is what it is. Greedy, deceitful people praying on those who don't know any better.

    I don't buy into it. Money does not grow on trees and it definitely cannot be made by BUYING something. Money is hard earned or gained purely out of luck (inheritance, lottery etc). There are many of these scams out on the internet because that is the #1 thing people look for and people found a way by creating bogus programs they themselves do not believe in but charge people to use it and thats how they make it.

    If you want to make money online, it can cost you the price of a domain name and just time
    
    Look at something like the www.thirtydaychallenge.com to learn but you dont have to buy the software they mention, thats just to do it quicker
    
    Dont buy any ebooks or courses, waste of money

    There's legitimate information about legitimate ways to work and earn money, and then there are the scams.   Still, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just getting all Internetted out and sick of seeing stuff about earning money.  Of course, there's a tv infomercial where the people are talking about making their "big bucks" with "notes"...  My daughter and I were laughing about how they all applaud every time someone mentions money.  I mean, have they no dignity?

    I've tested many of the opportunities because I have a blog where I write reviews about them.  I've earned money with every method I've tried including gpt, paid blogging, clickbank, affiliate marketing, craigslist, adsense and more.  The only thing I refused to try is the cash gifting.  Give someone money in the hopes I'll get some back?  It sounds like wishful thinking.
    
    The problem with many of these sites is that they don't give you all the information you need to succeed.  For example, if you join an mlm you need referrals.  How do you get them?  You are going to have to work hard writing articles and submitting them to article directories.  You need to network.  Find someone on blogtalkradio to interview you or a podcaster that will give you a chance to share your opportunity.  It's all about getting traffic and branding.  You need people to learn about YOU.  People buy from people they trust. 
    
    My advice to anyone is:
    Research an opportunity before you get involved.  You may need to learn about website promotion, seo and more.  If you don't have the time to invest, don't do it.  There are many other free ways to make money online like: HubPages and Squidoo.
