When you are feeling down, what is your favorite thing to do to lift your spirits?
When I am feeling down, a simple activity like painting my toenails can lift my spirits. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that can bring us joy. How quickly we forget.
Reading one of my favorite books. They lighten my mood after just one chapter, but at that point I'm hooked and need to finish the book.
Thanks for sharing! That is a great time to read when you need to take your mind off of things.
Me too! Even if I know a book from start to finish, it can still cheer me up to reread it when I'm feeling down.
I pray. This is my outlet when I am really feeling down. Another thing I do is realize how trivial my problems are compared to so many others.
Love, love, love your answer! It's amazing how much pray can change a persons perspective. I always say to myself, "Well, at least I have 2 strong feet to stand on and vision to see my way through it".
I will drive the car,go to the village while listening to my favorite songs!
Ah! Music and motion. This is another great suggestion to add to the list. Thanks for sharing!
I hope you are a girl - LOL Seriously, unfortunately I have found that eating and shopping online lifts my spirits - neither of which is a particularly health pastime.
Hey! Eating and shopping is great "in moderation of course". I just discovered the benefits of online shopping. As for eating, my girlfriend and I are becoming foodies together. Yes, I am a girl. Sometimes I like to paint smiley faces on each nail.
When i am down, i tried to forget my problem by just being calm and lying on my bed with my eyes closed and start thinking what i really want in life and what kind of life i want to live.. You will not believe its amazing it will take hardly 5 minutes to fall asleep.. Just give it a try..
I like this idea. I occasionally enjoy a power nap, but I never take time to reflect on life like that. I will definitely try it. Thanks for the suggestion!
I listen to some melody songs. It brings me a lot of strength and happiness.
Listening to music for at least 20 minutes in the middle of the afternoon is becoming a new thing for me. It does work. Thank you!
I enjoy reading beautiful poems and my new passion is writing!
Welcome to hubpages truthis4me. You will find both here. It is a great outlet to discover the writer within yourself. Happy Hubbing!
When I am down, I go within and communicate with the God within me through the use of Meditation. I also use self hypnosis to lift my spirits and the practice of Gratitude.
I clean the house like crazy because it gives me a focus and takes my mind of the things that are getting me down.
I also say a prayer. From the time I was a little girl, my mom would always tell me to say my prayers if something was really bothering me. It brings me peace.
Cleaning does take your mind off things. When your done, you can stop and say, "Ah! I feel like I have accomplished something today". That would make me smile. Prayer always seems to calm the spirit. Doesn't it?
with a cup of tea and hopefully some chocolate, i like to go through old photos, listen to old music, take a long bath and/or watch a movie that makes me laugh
I like all of your ideas. That makes an enjoyable evening that would calm anyone's spirit.
When I feel sad, I go outdoors with my kid. Maybe for a walk or to the park. A walk in nature or down the beach is always great.
Good quality time sharing fresh air and sunshine with a loved one. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I pray, listen to uplifting christian music and I find an interesting hobby to do or watch a humor movie. Thanks for asking
I like your answer. I seems to be the same approach I have been using lately. It works pretty well. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
I like to get a coffee and stop by a local bookstore. Just browsing through a bookstore always brings my mood up, especially when I buy myself a new book or two to read.
It's nice to here that others still appreciate the brick and mortar bookstore. I especially like to go on a rainy day. I love the smell of all of the printed books when I walk in the door. Thanks for sharing!
I like turning on my music in the front room, loud enough that I can hear it thorughout my home, but not loud enough to hurt my head. I will open up all the windows and the patio door, if it is cold, I will just open the blinds. Sunlight is so helpful when you are down. I try to keep myself occupied in a physical way. I will clean house, maybe exercise a little, dance around, or anything else that will get the blood pumping. This really helps me.
I have admire you for taking the physical activity approach. At times, I just want to lay horizontal on the couch and disappear into the cushions with a big fluffy pillow and a cozy blanket.
I just watch anime and I'm all good! That's the best therapy ever and it works for me
I have never seen it, but I hear it is popular. Sounds like it works for others also. I will check it out. Thanks for sharing!
I love to read and listen to music when I feel down.. Apart from this, its dance that give me energy and the spirit to start my day with a happy mood. Last but not the least, I sit back and relax and talk with myself - its so rejuvenating.
That's a good way to start the day. I'm guessing it helps you past your good mood onto others. Thank you!
I usually turn on dancable music especially dancehall and dance all my sorrows away
Sounds like a good way to brighten your mood and keep you fit. That would be a good "pick-me-up" when I start to run out of energy too.
At the risk of being thought materialistic which I am not, I go into my bedroom and count my money. In my mind I know what is in the bank and I know then that I can pay my way. I put this down to little money in my earlier life, basically insecurity I suppose. This really works for me, it's not that I gloat over what I can buy it's a feeling of security and the one thing we all seek in life which is; Peace of mind.
Graham.
Thanks for sharing your story. I completely understand how it brings security and peace of mind. Every time I get a bill paid, for some odd reason I stop to say, "Ah!"
I will go for a walk and think why am I feeling down then I will go to the garden and admire my flowers, smell the roses, they lift my mood up so easily.
I guess that is where that phrase, "Stop to smell the roses" became popular. Flowers lift my spirits also. Thanks for your input.
When I feel down, I read Bible chapter by chapter after I pray asking God to help me carry it through whatever burdens inside me. Sometimes I Listen Christian music in my room. I feel revive knowing my prayer's has been answerd after doing all this.
Reading the Bible always seems to give me clarity in my thinking. I love to read Psalms. Thanks you!
I try to meditate because somewhere I feel that is the easiest and fastest way to connect with the creator. .. There are times when meditation cannot be easily done, since I am outside or in the middle of things, that is when I take time out and starts chanting a gratitude or appreciation list to myself... I start thanking God for my life, my health, my hands and legs and all of a sudden a small shift starts to happen.. I feel good... Works for me...
Working out always improves my mood. Sometimes it is hard to start when I am feeling down , but I push myself through the motions until I feel the change . It has to do with endorphins , those brain chemicals that affect your mood.
I agree that simple things can lift your spirits. For me, baking always puts a smile on my face when I am down.
