When you are feeling down, what is your favorite thing to do to lift your spirits?

When I am feeling down, a simple activity like painting my toenails can lift my spirits. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that can bring us joy. How quickly we forget.

Reading one of my favorite books. They lighten my mood after just one chapter, but at that point I'm hooked and need to finish the book.

Me too! Even if I know a book from start to finish, it can still cheer me up to reread it when I'm feeling down.

I pray. This is my outlet when I am really feeling down. Another thing I do is realize how trivial my problems are compared to so many others.

Love, love, love your answer! It's amazing how much pray can change a persons perspective. I always say to myself, "Well, at least I have 2 strong feet to stand on and vision to see my way through it".

I hope you are a girl - LOL  Seriously, unfortunately I have found that eating and shopping online lifts my spirits - neither of which is a particularly health pastime.

Hey! Eating and shopping is great "in moderation of course". I just discovered the benefits of online shopping. As for eating, my girlfriend and I are becoming foodies together. Yes, I am a girl. Sometimes I like to paint smiley faces on each nail.

When i am down, i tried to forget my problem by just being calm and lying on my bed with my eyes closed and start thinking what i really want in life and what kind of life i want to live.. You will not believe its amazing it will take hardly 5 minutes to fall asleep.. Just give it a try..

I like this idea. I occasionally enjoy a power nap, but I never take time to reflect on life like that. I will definitely try it. Thanks for the suggestion!

When I am down, I go within and communicate with the God within me through the use of Meditation.  I also use self hypnosis to lift my spirits and the practice of  Gratitude.

I clean the house like crazy because it gives me a focus and takes my mind of the things that are getting me down.
I also say a prayer.  From the time I was a little girl, my mom would always tell me to say my prayers if something was really bothering me.  It brings me peace.

    1. 4wardthinker profile image71
4wardthinkerposted 11 years agoin reply to this

Cleaning does take your mind off things. When your done, you can stop and say, "Ah! I feel like I have accomplished something today". That would make me smile. Prayer always seems to calm the spirit. Doesn't it?

When I feel sad, I go outdoors with my kid. Maybe for a walk or to the park. A walk in nature or down the beach is always great.

I like to get a coffee and stop by a local bookstore. Just browsing through a bookstore always brings my mood up, especially when I buy myself a new book or two to read.

It's nice to here that others still appreciate the brick and mortar bookstore. I especially like to go on a rainy day. I love the smell of all of the printed books when I walk in the door. Thanks for sharing!

I like turning on my music in the front room, loud enough that I can hear it thorughout my home, but not loud enough to hurt my head. I will open up all the windows and the patio door, if it is cold, I will just open the blinds. Sunlight is so helpful when you are down. I try to keep myself occupied in a physical way. I will clean house, maybe exercise a little, dance around, or anything else that will get the blood pumping. This really helps me.

I love to read and listen to music when I feel down.. Apart from this, its dance that give me energy and the spirit to start my day with a happy mood. Last but not the least, I sit back and relax and talk with myself - its so rejuvenating.

At the risk of being thought materialistic which I am not, I go into my bedroom and count my money. In my mind I know what is in the bank and I know then that I can pay my way. I put this down to little money in my earlier life, basically insecurity I suppose. This really works for me, it's not that I gloat over what I can buy it's a feeling of security and the one thing we all seek in life which is; Peace of mind.

I try to meditate because somewhere I feel that is the easiest and fastest way to connect with the creator. .. There are times when meditation cannot be easily done, since I am outside or in the middle of things, that is when I take time out and starts chanting a gratitude or appreciation list to myself... I start thanking God for my life, my health, my hands and legs and all of a sudden a small shift starts to happen.. I feel good... Works for me...

Working out always improves my mood. Sometimes it is hard to start when I am feeling down , but I push myself through the motions until I  feel the change . It has to do with endorphins , those brain chemicals that affect your mood.
