Noynoy Aquino Running for President in the 2010 Philippine Elections
The Top Contenders.
Other developments.
Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino now leads in the recent survey conducted by SWS.
Please read very recent update below ). The one that doesn’t crave for power deserves to be in power. Cory Aquino first did this trick in 1986. She was part of the fourteen -member selection panel to choose an opposition's official presidential candidate to challenge the then strongman Ferdinand Marcos, but destiny tells her otherwise. Cory Aquino was eventually chosen (thanks to the clamor of large number of Filipinos) to rival Marcos for presidency and went on to win the to become a president with the help of a bloodless "People power revolution," a destiny that paved her to be the first ever Philippine, and Asian president, and the third woman to be bestowed honor by the prestigious Time Magazine as recipient of 1986 Woman of the Year distinction.
Will history repeat itself; this is still an event waiting to be known in the months ahead.
Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, the son of Cory Aquino and assasinated senator Benigno Ninoy Aquino, was in similar position few weeks ago, with the clamor again of many Filipinos Mar Roxas decided to extinguish his political aspirations by giving way to party mate and bestfriend Noynoy Aquino. After few days of retreat Noynoy Aquino finally unveiled his intentions to run in RP Presidential derby.
Mar Roxas who was campaigning for the past few months and was originally groomed by Liberal Party to be their standard-bearer decided to drop out of running for presidential race next year. Roxas' humble gesture will indeed merit his credibility and truly showed unselfishness and true class.
With Noynoy running now for the presidential position, he must have his hands full in carving out an all-out effort to compete tooth and nail against equally tough presidential hopefuls like Manny Villar, Chiz Escudero, cousin Gilbert Teodoro.
Manny Villar, one of the current Philippine senator, an accomplished and popular businessman and realtor is leading in previous Social Weather Station’s survey, he is tagged as the darkhorse and capable of pulling the rug from under his opponents.
Escudero is setting his sights on clinching the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) official endorsement. NPC is under the leadership of business magnate Eduardo Cojuangco Jr., Cory Aquino’s maternal uncle.
Teodoro meanwhile is eyeing the endorsement of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, the well-oiled and well-entrenched administration party, spearheaded by current Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Teodoro’s main adversary for the administration’s endorsement is Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando, a hard-nosed official who made Metro Manila clean and organized.
Current Vice President Noli De Castro who was once a very popular News Host in the country haven't showed any intentions that he will run in the coming elections although he is not closing his doors yet for any possibilities, he already declined the offer of the Administration to join their party and be installed as their standard-bearer .
Aquino made some soul-searching and spiritual retreat before making his decision. His entry to the already wild presidential race is slowly gaining ground. According to a survey conducted by a popular polling group, he is performing well and Noynoy’s chance is bright.
This Philippine Presidential election will indeed be a wide open race and the one that has the charisma, wit and willingness to succeed will surely have a cutting edge. Many strong candidates are slowly surfacing and getting much needed political mileage. It’s a long road to May 2010 elections, but the festive mode of elections is slowly moving in, swaying the voting populace with unending promises for reforms and development. Moreover, electioneering is indeed invading television broadcast stations and jockeying for positions among candidates are evident.
Philippines is in abundance of great talents – skilled and professional workers- and natural resources, hopefully the right one will be chosen for the job who will get the work done with perseverance, moral governance and never wavering commitment to serve the people. Filipinos are loving, forgiving and capable of forgetting. It’s about time to give what is due to them.
(Updated 7:30 AM September 28, 2009 Philippine Time).
Malacañang Official, Alberto Romulo, Philippines Foreign Secretary and Presidential Anti-Graft Commission, head Jaime Jacob have shown their staunch support for the candidacy of Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Talks about Vice President Noli De Castro as running mate of Presidential bet Senator Manny Villar is currently is at work in progress.
MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando lost his bid to become the Presidential candidate of the administration party the Lakas-Kampi-CMD in 2010. He was thougoughly outscored by Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro in a secret balloting of their 65 member national executive committee. Meanwhile Ronaldo Puno was endorsed as Teodoro’s running mate according to the political adviser of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Gabriel Cluadio, who is also the merger secretary general.
