A very topical poem for International Women’s Day.

Thank you for writing this poem that displays an important message Farah.
It seems no matter what people are offered, division and selfishness, always raises it’s head.
Your one wish for women to stay selfless and united is a worthy one.

That is a beautiful wish, Farah.  It would be a blessing if more people thought and acted that way.  Thanks, John, for sharing her meaningful poem with us.

    Great write, Farah.

Too bad it was only a dream, but then again people never seem to agree.

    I love this

    "Respect is our priority,

    Free-will is what we need,

    Justice or equality,

    And safety, indeed!”

This is exactly what women need.

    A great wish.

Thanks for sharing this one John.

Thank you so much, Brenda, and it is wonderful to know you liked the poem. I feel men and women are both responsible for the misery that women need to put up with. So it’s not only the men to be blamed for the inequality and injustice towards women. Men however need to be taught how to deal with empowered women. There’s no point in talking about women's empowerment when all you wish to do is dominate them.....and women need to be supportive towards other women instead of wishing to have the entire share of good fortune...So instead of putting down other women,we should prove our worth through determination and hard work....

I can see it from authors view but can’t see it when I click on the link. Can anyone tell me why this has happened and what I need to do?

These are given more importance where there is a need for them eg Asian countries, where women are seen to have the sole role of doing all household chores and looking after not only the babies but the entire in-laws. In short, the woman is treated as the maid in most households. Then there was the dowry problem. A working woman is still seen as a woman who is neglectful towards her family and home. Things have changed a lot in my country as soon as female literacy boomed.  We are more independent now. Like I have my own house. I didn't wait for my husband for that part. So naturally, those outdated roles and expectations change when you are in such a strong position. But then there are the poor people and the villagers where the scenario is still quite the same but it’s changing. So yes to bring about a revolution you need such days. Then again  there are women who take this too far to take gain undue benefits from it to get more than their fair share. That’s what I meant when I wrote “why only 4 wishes and why not ten!”. Such women are never satisfied and they abuse the entire motive behind such celebrations…we have to be responsible human beings and simply do our share of contribution.
Happy Women’s Day to you too, Brenda, and to all the other women and men who contribute positively to make our lives happier!

    Dear Farah,

It is really a pleasure to read such a wonderful poem on the occasion of International Women's Day. The poem implicitly shed light on contemporary challenges women are undergoing. Few lines really touched my heart deeply:

    “Respect is our priority,

    Free-will is what we need,

    Justice or equality,

    And safety, indeed!”

Yeah, women indeed need to be treated equally, fairly, and respectfully in the society.

Thanks a lot John for sharing this eye-opening poem with us.

I loved the black sarcasm here and the message you laced within your work for Women's Day. We always scream to the top of our guts for diversity, but at the end of the day, all we need to do is to unite and stay united as humans. Once we do that, respect, liberty, and equality will come for all automatically, rather than celebrating special days.

Thanks for sharing your work Farah.THanks, John, for sharing.

Haha! Yes, Ravi! You got it quite right but here in the Indian subcontinent, that is still a dream which is why we do need to celebrate such days as a reminder that we are all equal. In Bangladesh, this time there was a women’s day campaign with the photo of a successful woman entrepreneur and the caption said “ I manage my home, I manage my business” and to our surprise, it faced harsh criticism from many women saying why should women manage everything. Women empowerment is often acknowledged when a woman is seen to take on a man’s role. The mountain climbers, the women’s football team etc....but quite often women undermine the role they have been playing for ages. I believe it’s a combined contribution from men and women that can make things better for us. Men need to manage their homes too. There is no way we can ignore managing the home as that is our basic unit and identity. So instead if saying why should we manage so much, it should be let’s manage our home together.

Wonderful poem, Farah!! Poor Genie! Lol! big_smile
    I loved these lines:

"Even in the dream I had to fight,
For what was supposed to be human rights!
I wish we had a social paradigm,
Where we could ditch all diversities and unite as humankind."

    Brilliant message!!!
    Thanks for sharing,  John

Blessings and lots of love!! smile
