    The cowboy president strikes again...

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/w … 724625.ece

"The President acknowledged his friendship with Mr Gates and admitted that he did not know the full facts of the incident."

Brenda Durhamposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, did you notice how he immediately took the professor's side and used the incident as a vehicle to whine about blacks being persecuted?    ..I don't remember him vocalizing anything about Sotomayor's persecution of the white (and one Hispanic) firefighters, do you?
I think maybe the whole exchange between him and the reporter could've be set up in advance.   At any rate, Obama is a mess, psychologically and politically.    He never stands up for his "white" heritage even though it's (supposedly) common knowledge that he's half-white.

Oh, it was definitely a set-up. They didn't huddle beforehand, but the so-called 'reporter' knew full well that the question was a slow-pitch softball offering that would provide the president with a platform for his professorial pandering.

Well under normal circumstances it's his right. Under the guise of racism it's pathetic and anyone who promotes this kind of behavior is no better than a racist themselves. When a liberal pulls a stunt like this it's ok, if a conservative white man did it he'd be crucified!

Don't let me confuse the issue but President Obama is the president of 'The United States of America', thats why we call him President Obama. Glen Beck is a conservative watch-dog that has a television/radio talk show. President Obama has the power to end life on earth. Glen Beck has the power to be a cheerleader for conservatives. I think there's a difference.

I guess he took the professor's side because he knows the professor and knew the accusations were out of character for the professor. He also indicated in his book, his experiences with racial profiling. Put them two together and you have what he felt a bout the situation.
    1. he knows Gates does not start trouble being the man he is
    2. He knows the police does racially profile against Black/Hispanic men

How so?  For all the cops knew there was a burglary in progress.  I'd hope the cops in my town would ask for verification were I in the same position.  They were protecting the property of that neighborhood, something that is within their legal responsibility.

Look at what happens when police are not thorough:

          http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090828/ts … idnapchild

Gates is an over-educated, elitist as well as racist.  How people can take this man seriously is beyond me.  Laws should only concern themselves with the protection of the life, liberty and property of citizens.  In this case the police just wanted to verify that the person they were talking to really was the owner.  Sooner or later the majority is going to get tired of the incessant whining of the minority and you'll really start to see racism and discrimination.  Times are tough, it's time we started hanging together rather than trying to rip each other down.  We did that once before and the late 1960's and 1970's were the result.  You think we'd learn from history.

Obama's mistake was a political error, not a factual error. Crowley arrested Gates in his own home after he identified himself, as I recall, with two pieces of I.D. not because he thought he was a burglar but rather because his feelings were hurt when Gates took issue with his overbearing conduct. Crowley was a typical racist Boston Irish cop.

Why do you suppose Crowley ordered Gates to come out of his house and into his front yard? Do you think it might have been in order to create a situation in which he thought he might have a more plausible basis for arresting Gates? My recollection is that the law differs somewhat depending where the alleged offense occurs, i.e., whether in "public" or in the citizen's domicile. That seems pretty clear to me. Every day perfectly innocent citizens are arrested for no reason other than not showing enough deference to a cop.

And the neighbor who made the initial call was in on it too.

And Ashton Kutcher too. The cop was punk'd.

I have a tendency to be alittle sarcastic when I feel I'm being patronized. As far as the political turn of events my original feelings about our president were concern over his lack of experience. As long as you and the rest of the enlightened intellectuals don't mess with religion and the religious, our gun laws, healthcare or continue to expand abortion rights, Hey were Americans. That's true. I misspoke. He ordered him to go outside so that he could arrest him for creating a disturbance in public which he couldn't have done inside Gates's own house. Someone with a brain in his head decided that it was a mistake to pursue the STUPID charge. If the incident had happened in Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi the police probably would have beaten a confession out of Gates with a rubber hose.

Ralph, see here we go again, you assume that Mr. Gates is completely innocent. Now this is my take on humans in general, I've never seen two people have a disagrement and one party is 100% right and one 100% wrong, it doesn't happen.

As far as police go, you do what they tell you to, politely. Don't antagonize the police and then problems can be sorted  out reasonably. If you feel that you were handled improperly, you let your lawyer deal with it! Keep that pie hole shut!

Now about your disdain for Texas, we like our laws and we want them inforced. Thats one of the reasons we are way up on the economic ladder compared to the rest of the country. We work hard and we like what comes from hard work and if someone tries to ruin it, we won't standby and say that poor misunderstood person. We want them prosecuted, period.

We also don't like people putting their hands in our pocket. If you choose to do little or nothing, fine. We don't want to pay for you to do it.

If you want to debate, debate. If you start the name calling, I'll do my best to keep up. If that's where you think it's got to go, thats fine just be an adult and take the hit.

Also the government is not telling the banks what to do but is giving them billions while the consumer is on his back. Those are the issues that the censored mainstream media doesn't want to discuss. American Beauty won the best pic Oscar for its black comedic depiction of what's wrong in River City--between husbands in dead end jobs and ambitious wives, between retired Tex-like military officers and their gay sons, boob jobs for teenage girls and so forth. Spacey and Bening nailed their roles.

Race clearly played a role in the Gates incident both on the part of the policeman and in Gates reaction to the situation. In my personal experience, over-reaction by police to what they perceive as insufficient deference or lack of respect toward them by citizens is not confined to white police toward minority citizens although considerably less common. Police over-react with some frequency toward whites as well when they feel they are being dissed. Over-reaction by African American policemen toward blacks and toward whites occurs also.

I attribute police over-reaction to race, to lack police training on how to deal with all citizens with courtesy and respect without losing their temper, and failure of police department leadership to deal firmly with offenders. Inappropriate behavior toward citizens by police occurs also because as members of the law enforcement community policemen can usually do so with impunity. Also, it may be that the police work attracts more than its share of bullies.

Chris Rock offers some humor and advice on this subject–

My favorite phrase that I use all the time and will occasionally say right to a guy's face:

"Wow....does that make you feel like a big, strong man?"

I used to work in pretty much an all man's world and there are a few rotten ones anywhere. I would like to add that the BIGGEST impact you can ever have on someone is to simply ignore them. It's the best thing that you can do to frustrate anyone in this situation.

All my friends absolutely love that phrase and it brings about hysterics every single time I use it. It's all about the delivery, too (you need to use a little pout and a sort of sad, sarcastic voice)....maybe I should make a youtube video as an example. wink

Anyhow, I really think there needs to be a few, if not a million, studies conducted as to why people act different online, than off. It is truly interesting! I think the psychological community could greatly benefit from this research. big_smile

They are, however, whipped up by Glen Beck (all love him here writing on this thread) and sometimes Limbaugh.  They definitely appear to think they are conservatives.  But I am happy to see you don't want to claim them.  It is about time a conservative with conscience would call them what they are.  You mentioned...crazies.  Thank you.

No, I think it's more than that. You threaten them for some reason and they have no other way to deal with it than to juvenilize you. It's irrational and pathetic, really.
Lots of people on here support Obama and say so openly.

Once again, a thread that could have been (or maybe was -- 200 posts ago) a debate about who was right, who was wrong in the Gates arrest has degenerated into pointless personal attacks.

I think it's time to go find a new thread and some civil discourse. Wanna come?

    A Texan.
Do you think "Does your mommy know you are up this late?" is an appropriate thing to ask a fellow hubber?
I think it's belittling and dismissive.
And I don't imagine it's a question you would ask of a male.

Here's another example of extreme rudeness toward SweetiePie:

"Ok whatever you say, you are a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance! Now go bother someone else!"

Did you get that line from George Bush? It makes about as much sense as something he would say!

Hi GG. Is that a new photo? It's really nice.
Now, I realize I am putting myself at huge risk here by saying that, as someone will find something communist about it.
But I figure it's worth the risk.
It's a very flattering pic. MM

I just want to say to that last comment:  We do have the right to come to the forum and not be harassed.  It isn't their "right" to belittle like they do.

And freedom of speech does not mean what you think it means.  It's a political right and was always intended to be a political right.

I grew up in one of the more conservative communities in the United States.  Everyone thinks California is very liberal, but San Bernardino and Riverside County are not.  People would say you were misguided if you voted Democratic or Independent where I lived, but they never made it personal.  I think on forums it is easier to do that.

Aeehhhh.  There are always guys around like this.  It is magnified because of the internet and the seeming anonymity.

Many of Matt's conservative clients just love to kinda spew off color political assertions all over dinner.  I am practiced at not saying anything at all.  With some people, it seems the easiest thing to do.  These are also the types that think it is perfectly OK to tell kinda off color jokes about women, and think others will all think it is funny, etc.  I don't know quite what it is about; I usually think it something of a generational thing.

Of course, Matt & I are exchanging glances with each other, like, Oh, My God, but I have learned to look past it and see them as people...meet on that level.  And, well, they are his clients...so 'diplomacy,' lol, is necessary.

I have to do the same thing too at work.  I had someone ask about the Bush biographies and go on about what a hero he was, etc.  I just nodded and said, that is great smile.  Offline I do not even tell people what I think about politics unless I know they are slightly receptive.

Good attitude, SP. No reason to stay away from the forums. You have as much right to be here as anyone else.
It's entirely possible to have forum discussions without name-calling.
I see AT has slunk off. I will refrain from making any comments that would put me in the league of personal attack.

News Flash: Ap.....Van Jones Resigns....Hummm....could all the concerned conservatives been wrong?

  49. SweetiePie profile image84
    SweetiePieposted 13 years ago

Gee even people within the same party have say derogatory things about each other.  It sounds like the White House felt pressured to ask him to resign because a few Republicans did not like his comments.  I am not defending what he said, but he is not the only one to do so.  Cheney has made many offensive comments, and he did not have to resign.  Yes, some of us are still concerned about the role Cheney had in office.  Even Bush stopped taking his advice during the second term because he realized voters were becoming weary of Cheney's staunch policies.  Cheney did not observe the warm spit rule of the Vice Presidency like his predecessors.

And his forced resignation has absolutely nothing to do with his fitness for the job.
I hope this will be the last hatchet job Obama allows in his administration.

Hatchet job? BHO prefers to wield the hatchet.

      Attacks Wall Street CEOs.
Attacks hedge fund managers who wouldn't capitulate to him in the Chrysler bankruptcy proceedings (turned out to be retirement fund managers, but he meant well).
Attacks Boston police, then admits in the same breath be doesn't know all the facts.
Attacks Republicans and accuses them of obstructing his health care 'reform' while refusing them a seat at the table.
