Giving money is not a solution to help poor.We should help I. Other aspects too
I absolutely do not believe in giving money to people who have none or very little. There is a reason that they do not have money probably because they are not very good at managing it. I believe teaching people money management skills, entrepreneur type skills and basic life skills such as cooking for themselves under limited means or keeping their bills low are far more important ways of helping them sustain themselves long term. I think money should be invested into programs that teach these skills rather than providing pensions or "hand outs" otherwise how will their outcome ever change for the better?
We also need to make sure that people with mental health issues or addiction issues are fully supported with proper medical care to prevent their illness taking over their life to the point where they are unable to care properly for themselves.
Hi Erin... I agree with your words that we should educate them. But sometimes they might need some money to start self-employment projects. I mean to say that some poor people have ideas to do something new in their life and where money matters.
giving money is not the only way to help poor people... there's a lot of livelihood programs nowadays which any body can join the group, apply what they have learned and make it as their source of income.. and be a better entrepreneur, making it their first step to a better future. Best there is that we have to pursue what we have started, never give up, and make it your goal and obey it.
No, there are many ways to help the less fortunate, however money is always the easiest way. Also think about food, clothing, and education.
Staying with poor people or giving them food are some of the ways to help them .
no you can buy food for them or clothes or even something you drew or if you write a letter and it might cheer them up or encourge them to find a job.
It is the best way. Like the winter needs the spring and deserts need rain, poor people always need money. If you have any to give, give.
I am thinking, about giving money the only way to for helping the poor people, We can give suggestions for doing hard work to earn money.
Money of course can help someone experiencing hard times. Is that the answer? Personally been their myself, no money isn't the answer. Educational opportunity is the key to the end of financial distress.
I'm glad you're bringing attention to this issue! Lots of people have a desire to help others (not just themselves) but their means of providing help is limited... and they themselves are having a hard time financially. I wrote a hub about this about a year ago entitled "How to help people without giving money".
While many organizations will ask for cash - and provide no alternative for their supporters to give donations like supplies - the downside of giving cash is that once it's gone, it's gone. Empowering people to donate their time, their skills, etc. is a creative way that can encourage more people to get involved.
I agree you cannot get rid of poverty by giving people money. There are so many worthy answers to this question already written here. However, the question is whether giving money is the only way to help poor people. I think the answer is yes. If you are poor, if you are unable to put bread on the table, if you cannot feed or clothe your children, then you need money.
Graham.
of course not! In fact from the Jewish perspective it is much much better to give one the means to make a living over that of explicit giving of money. Giving a person work or assistance in finding work. You could also give time to help the poor. For example a poor single parent could use a hand for childcare or keeping their home in shape.... there are lots of options. But sometimes directly giving someone money makes the most sense. I personally feel that making a point of giving the poor say a coffee or a muffin instead of the cash is a bit condescending in the assumption that they will not use it properly. In the end I guess its a situation by situation decision on how best to be charitable.
One thing is certain helping the poor in anyway regardless of the nature of the intention is a good thing and we should all be doing it more.
Well I like to help people because few people help me while I was growing up. First I like to find out what is reason they are poor. Some due to education . Due to age everybody cannot go to college so find some course work for them . Adult education center has lot of courses and fees are small.
That's true. Each person has a reason why they are poor.
Giving money to the poor is a great thing although there are plenty of ways otherwise. I think this quote is priceless. Giving poor some money may be the worst thing to do as some may not know how to spend it. Helping the poor get a steady income and such, providing a home is one of the greatest things you can do.
Actually no.. I believe that money can come to an end, soon people will be needing the money again. People need something deeper than money
Hell no, giving them jobs could even be more of an answer but I don't think that'll happen since some jobs require skills and a lot of poor people don't have those required skills due to lack of education. I think the only way to help the poor is for them to work hard!
There is always a reason behind why people are poor. Sometimes they are victims of circumstances beyond their control and can do very little to help themselves. But there are times when people lack the motivation to do anything about their plight. Just giving these people money isn't a long term solution. They can be helped in other areas like education. Instead of giving money to the poor we can give them things that money would buy anyway.
AS a matter of fact I would discourage from giving money to the poor. If one wants to help poor people the best way would be to offer them help with their needs.
Something like;
1> Books for the Children.
2> Food for the needy
3> Sponsoring their child's education
4> Helping them get some work
5> Providing better facilities for them if possible
Of course there are many more ways. But money is not advisable. Money can be spent otherwise and you never know what one will do with the money given to them. The best way would always be to support them in kind than in monetary terms. Accepting money may make them lazy.
Here's what I learned from my various trips to some 3rd world nations...
Give a man a fish, and it will sustain him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and it will sustain him for a lifetime! It works - I've seen this principle in action!
The best way to truly help the poor is to find a way to empower them--give them something whether it be a goal, a passion, a purpose, to fight for a better life. Although money can help reduce physical problems, such as getting resources, they can not necessarily add meaning to one's life, which I think is need in order for one to truly thrive and live.
Giving/donating some money to someone in poverty or to an organization is only temporary help for them, for a meal, some shelter or clothing. Long-term help is really how people in need can fully benefit.
To help organizations, fund-raising with a goal set to meet needs is helpful, and continuing to donate yearly would help the organization meet their goal ongoing, each and every year.
To help individuals, money, food and clothing is a good start, but in the long run, the person who needs help will need assistance getting a job and a place to live. So to help them in the long run, putting them in touch with organizations who may be able to help them get on the their feet with a starter job would be helpful. If the person wants to be helped, and is eager to learn, providing assistance will be all the more easier.
So initially give money, food and/or clothing/supplies. But in the long run, they will need employment and shelter in order to survive.
I think we have to try our best in different situations to help others as much as we can, but then give them tools to help them be self-sufficient.
I agree with the quote after your question. You cannot get rid of poverty by giving people money. When we hand them cash, it just modivates them to ask people for money instead of working to improve their situation.
There are a lot of other ways to help the poor that are more beneficial. We can have training programs that give them skills and knowledge to find jobs. This teaches them how to care for themselves which will help them a lot more in the long run.
As the Chinese proverb says: "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."
It is not the only way but it may be the best way as long as the money gets to the poor people. Lots of people donate money for the poor but the money sometimes never reaches the poor. Not even in the form of food, clothing or shelter.
People are poor because of circumstances and different individuals have different circumstances.
Some people may need help in education or skills training which can be given from person to person. This can be a better help toward a sustainable income, instead of money.
It is true that giving money to the poor is very helpful but it is not the best way to help the poor. I have seen a poor man who was given one million Naira (Nigeria's currency) but in a few month's time he became as poor as ever.
The best way to help the poor is not even education because there are so many rich uneducated people in the world. This is not inferring that education is not good, in fact education is one of the best things that happened to humanity. If education is the solution of poverty then many educated people who died poor could have escaped poverty.
The sure thing about escaping poverty is to acquire skill that continues to generate money. Teach them skills based on their interest and teach them to believe in themselves, give them all the encouragement that you can.
My belief is:
Dont give them Fish. Teach them Fishing.
So giving money would not solve the issue.
Well not at all but still sunny, money is honey as you might have heard. Skill development, education and employment all but forms of money perhaps. Standing at own feet is what is required however the special people need to be treated with kindness, love and spirit. Its not only their help but a string in your eternal success too,
You can give them clothes, and/or shelter, prepared food, and/or transportation. Anything you do will be great, if it's the best you can do
money does not help poor people, education does. that is why education should be a right not a privilege. giving money to the less fortunate people will help them for a short period of time but if they will be educated how to make a living for themselves, the "help" lasts forever.
Money is always needed for the poor, however, the list is endless of other ways you can help the poor!! They are the easiest to help because they need everything, clothes, shoes, food, companionship, hope, jobs, like I said endless ways to help!!!!
No, giving money to poor people is not advisable from my point of view, if we really want to do something for them, let them make learn how to earn. if some one going forward to help them so make a plateform for ensure their earning. Like seed capital or market/channel for branding etc.

Nope. You can also give food, clothes, and other various necessities.
Give a man a fish, teach a man to fish...
Education is the best way to help the poor.
No. There are many ways to help poor people, and money is one among them. Because, You can donate them, some knowledge, which will make them wise, and even, which eradicates their poverty. You can donate them some shelter, which will make them to stay. You can create a new world for them, to let them live on their own, with out others help.
No, I think by giving money is not a way to help. Its just a sympathy. I mean when we gave money to any poor person, we just show our pity on them, in this way we can't remove their poverty. Instead, this If we avail them work to earn themselves, It can works and they can remove their poverty.
Giving money creates dependency. Teach one a skill for survival is a much better approach.
Well, It is definitely one of the ways to help poor but it is wrong to say 'the only way'. It is right that money will help them to rise a bit but the point to concern is that, How they (Poor) make use of those money. If they are utilizing those money to grow then it is well and good but if they are misusing it by indulging themselves with drug addiction and other stuffs then there is no meaning of helping them. So in my opinion we can help poor by providing better education, pioneering them to the path of success so that to they can make their position in the society and keep themselves away from inferiority and other complexion which generally arises from poverty and In that process we can help and ask other people of society to help them financially so that they can make their mark in the society. This is the best we can do in my opinion. Thank You.
People can help poor people by shopping/donating at Goodwill, as it helps the workers and those who benefit from its services.
Or you can buy from artists, such as the ones found on etsy.
Being a part of your local library could help the poor.
There are many ways to help the poor.
Most people living below the poverty line who are able to work would probably appreciate a steady, decent paying job to a free hand out. Another way to help is to treat the person with kindness and respect even if that person is obviously homeless and living on the street by begging for money.
Not an awful lot has to change for any of us to end up poor and sick one day with possibly nowhere to go. The safety net isn't what it used to be. Neither is job security. Nor do we have a stable economy. People still can't afford health insurance. Being the "other," in this case the poor, might be all too much like being you when you get older.
No. Everyone could help in any means as long as you are doing it with all your heart, mind and soul..
I would say ,"No" because they saying goes something like this, If you give a man a fish he eats for one meal but if you teach him to fish he will never go hungry. Poverty is a state of mind and this must be changed. Just like people who win millions and wind up broke a few years after, it is a mind set. Change the mind set. Show the opportunities for change, give them hope. In poverty-stricken countries, that is a whole different ball game and most of that is political. The government must be changed in this case.
While money may help in the near term, perhaps education is a better way to help poor people. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
No. Love and time and company is the best gift you can offer to someone of any class.
Sometimes people are poor because they can't deal with money. If somebody gives them it, they'll waste it only for food. They don't think how to enrich. The best way perhaps is to give them support and make confient that they are responsible for themselves and their poverty is a result of their wrong deeds. It is they who can chnge their state, not people around. Where there is a wiil, there is a way.
giving your time and your ear to listen can mean as much as giving money. Sometimes people just need someone to listen to them.Think about a time you needed to talk something out. Didn't you feel somewhat better having talked it over with someone? You may be giving them something greater than cash. They may learn something from you that they can use for the rest of their life. Food for thought!
I think money isn't so bad, without it nothing would keep on working in society. But without compassion, that's when we wouldn't be able to keep going. And without us, society would break down too. So basically it's not just money, but i think compassion is what is really needed. In response to your question, i think maybe you should buy that person a coffee and sit and listen to them for some time. That's all that is really required. Then they will have the strength to return to normal life and keep on going.
To pull people out of poverty they need to have the skills to be able to sell their labour. This presupposes that what they can produce is needed in an open marketplace and there is a constant need to update skills. Sometimes it is necessary to give a helping hand e.g. education, basic living needs such as food, shelter and clothing. Having the opportunity to work offers people the route out of poverty and their lives are then in their own control....Remember the adage about "teach a man to fish". Not only will he be able to feed himself and his family but has dignity and is respected by society
The best way you can help
Poor people is by giving them food, clothes, or a job.

Do you personally know of any rich people who have found a poor person and helped them? I am not talking about people standing in front of grocery stores handing out $10.00 gift cards to anyone that walks by. I mean have you ever known of any rich person seeking out a poor to help them?

Is it possible to help poor people and keep our liberty?I'm sorry; I guess I'm confused again. I never thought these two things were mutually exclusive. Why aren't there more Marxist Libertarians or Conservative Liberals out there? I guess I want to eat my cake when I have it.

There is much controversy, even within the non-developed world, as to whether aid helps or not.Western nations promised to give (a tiny) 0.7 percent of their GDP's to aid a number of years ago, but only a couple actually do that.If aid could be properly monitored, so it does not end up in the wrong...

Why do people have children, knowing that they CAN'T afford to give them a life beyond impoverishment, scarcity, & struggle? Such "parents" know that they can't provide their children cultural, educational, intellectual, & socioeconomic opportunities like normal parents do...

Are the poor useful for the society in any way?Is it that Poverty and the Poor are mere burden on the society? Do they serve any meaningful purpose?
