   At first blush this seems like simply poor judgment. But when you read further, it's clear he lied about his sending the photo/emails. And why is it that the Republicans who seem to get caught with their pants down (or in this case, with their shirts off)are those who want to dictate other Americans' sex lives? Why IS that?

   New York GOP representative Christopher Lee has resigned in a statement read on the House floor after a shirtless photo of him soliciting a woman he met on Craigslist surfaced Wednesday.
   
   “It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York," he said. "I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness. The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”
   
   The married, socially conservative (and antigay) Republican congressman reportedly sent flirtatious messages and a sexy picture of himself to a woman he met on Craigslist.
   
   The woman, a 34-year-old government employee from Maryland, had placed a personal ad on Craigslist in January, seeking “financially & emotionally” secure men, website Gawker reports. She received a reply from a man using Gmail address belonging to Rep. Christopher Lee of western New York State. The correspondent identified himself as Christopher Lee and described himself as a “very fit fun classy guy,” age 39 (seven years younger than Lee’s actual age), a lobbyist, and divorced. He went on to provide a photo of Lee, shirtless.
   
   The woman ended contact with Lee after she searched online for him and concluded he’d lied about his age and occupation, then forwarded the e-mail exchanges to Gawker.
   
   A spokesman for Lee confirmed to Gawker this week that the e-mail account belonged to the congressman but said Lee had not sent the messages and believed his account had been hacked. “That could, theoretically, be true,” Gawker’s Maureen O’Connor observed. “But the evidence suggests otherwise.”
   
   She also noted that Lee’s “support for ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and vote to reject federal abortion funding suggests a certain comfort with publicly scrutinizing others’ sex lives.”

      For certain, this guy is a class act DumbAxx, of which too many in Congress undoubtedly are. I suppose he should have waited to show his ego colors until or after a major vote of import, so the Dems could have Blackmailed him to vote their way!  Now that would have been practical and in keeping with the past two years!

            Hi there Randy, actually I listen to all the networks lately, and am even growing fond of MSNBC, and certainly CNN with the Egypt chaos, and if they and Fox are Fair and Balanced, then we should be hearing about Dems with their own scandals today and the past two years in comparison, as even CNN just could not stop talking about the political ramifications of this scandal, while FOX reported it on each night time segment tonight, but did not talk ad nauseum about the political implications of the mans grotesque gaffe. Noticeable difference.
            
            And the fact remains, that Dems are known to have used bribery to implement their policies the past two years, so why not blackmail, same difference, so we have no idea what they quashed in the interests of passing a health care bill that the American people did not want. 
            
            Just my negative thoughts tonight.  Regardless, this GOP Congressman was an egotistical dumby for certain....we need Egotistical smartys in Congress, regardless of party. (still using an old computer with the apostrophe key and quote/colong key and dash key disfunctional.)

                  You're right.  It happens, and it happened under Old Testament law!  No one can entirely live up to that!  Which is why Jesus had to die for our sins.
                  But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
                  The New Testament also tells us that.  Shall we sin, then, so that mercy will abound?   God forbid.
                  The liberals would apparently forego ANY punishment or personal responsibility for wrongs from all corners.  They live in lala land at the feet of a naked emperor.   We cannot survive without laws based on morality.

               As I recall, Spitzer resigned his position as governor of NY. I could probably find a few more. Also, the Republicans are under greater pressure because of their pious moralistic positions on sexuality. As I recall Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker of the House or minority leader was screwing his secretary, and I don't believe he resigned.

          Sex scandals aren't confined to one party, but there's an added element of hypocrisy when a member of the "family values" party is exposed. Also, when men of the cloth are exposed as adulterers, patrons of prostitutes, men's room trollers and, worst of all, child molesters. I don't recall a case of bestiality. That will be next I suppose.

    Ah, but it's not JUST women who succomb to the aphrodesiac of power -- quite a few of the scandals have involved gay affairs .
    
    Evan, do you ever feel like the voice crying in the wilderness?
    Can you really picture the USA abandoning the power structure that's been in place for centuries and try anarchy?
    That's a huge uphill battle, dontcha think?

    I think the woman who sent the photo to Gawker or whatever the hell it is called, should be somewhat responsible for all of this too.
    After all, she put the ad on Craigslist, and she must have been interested in the senator or she wouldn't have researched him. It almost makes me wonder if she was looking for someone to report.
    
    I mean, I have checked out a lot of personal ads, and I would never even think to send anyone's personal pictures or info to a trash magazine. What was the point of her doing that? Did someone pay her for the information? What would she get out of it?
    
    I saw the picture, and the man is a nice looking guy, who obviously works out. I probably would have contacted him too. But, I certainly wouldn't report him to a magazine. What he does with his personal life is none of my business. I also can't believe that this woman expected to find someone honest on craigslist. I think she was on a fishing expedition, and she got a bigger fish than she had hoped for.
    
    Would you report someone to a tabloid like she did? Just because? There is more going on there, then they are saying.

       The tabloids sometimes pay a lot for dirt on celebrities and Washington officials especially for family values Republicans.
       Also TV ministers are susceptible to revelations in the the tabloids. Remember Jimmy Swaggart?

    I seem to remember a simpler time, when democratic scandals were about sex, and republican ones were about money. Now the republicans are getting into sex scandals and the dems are getting into money ones. They really are becoming exactly alike!
    
    
    In other news, the guy in the recent Craig's list scandal recently cosponsored a bill to help educate kids about the dangers of sharing too much information in the internet. How's that for a special kind of stupid?
    
    Moral questions aside, I don't want someone with such obviously terrible decision-making ability making any laws.

    I'm not surprised either. Republicans try to act all wholesome and conservative, but they're big freaks like everybody else underneath. The GOP needs to get over itself and get real. I wish we could put all the GOP politicians, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin, on a rocket and send them somewhere FAR away!
