Its really sad that we as Americans let the Democrats and Republicans pull games on us and keep our minds off the really important  issues that face us as Americans.

How can we not demand real solutions to the problems facing us as Americans.

You know I set and listened to the Republican debates and I wondered why they didn't talk about the real issues facing the American people. Think about this.

    1. 15.000 plus people live under the bridges and in the streets of New Orleans Another 300.000 people can't come home because they have no where to come home to.

    2. NAFTA helped to take our textile jobs and cities all across the American south look like Ghost Towns. Millions of American Jobs were lost and we need to stop any textile imports from coming into America. And it was Republicans and Democrats who stood by and allowed this. They should be tried for treason and crimes against the American people.

    3. Our American senior citizens can't afford to buy their Prescription drugs for part of each year and the American Government doesn't care.

    4. 13 Million plus American children go to bed hungry each night in the United States.

    5. 47 Million Americans including 9 million children don't have health insurance.

    6. Millions of pounds of food is thrown away in the dumpsters of American Grocery Stores and its a shame that all this food that could be used to feed hungry people is allowed to go to waste.

    7. We continue to lock people up for marijuana and this is stupid. We should legalize marijuana and tax it heavily. Its stupid to keep Marijuana illegal. Prohibition didn't work for alcohol and its never going to work for marijuana.

Those are some really big issues that face us as an American people but you don't see very much about any of them on the TV News Shows. Instead the Republicans and Democrats spin their bull shit news stories to try to keep your mind off the important issues.

We as an American people should not allow one dime of our money to be spent over seas as long as we have one hungry or homeless child here in America. We don't need TV Commercials about starving children over seas. We need TV shows about the hungry children here in America.

I can't believe that we allow the Republicans and the Democrats to spin their stories and keep the American people at each others throat. I think we need to throw all of them out of office and possibly even try some of them for treason and crimes against the American people.

Americans need to wake up and demand a end to the political bullshit. We need to demand that all money stay here in America and to hell with the rest of the world. America was once a great country and it could be again if enough Americans would stand up for America.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read my post and I hope you'll post your comments. Thanks much.

You just spelled out some of the reasons for OWS.  Take care of the people with money and let the rest of us pay the bill.  We have lost our way.  Millions of hungry children in America??  Not in my America.

Thank God for God as it were.

There are so many different issues and so many different perspectives that different people have. I have traveled many miles and shared many fires. I learned a few things along the way.

We need to remember to walk in a persons shoes for a mile before we pass judgment on them if ever. The lord God says judge not lest we be judged.

Why Do Americans Let The Politicians Screw Us Over?

Well many youngsters are taught to react to peer pressure by teachers humiliating them if they dare challenge the socialist views they are being taught. Many are taught this emotional pain is to be something to be avoided. Many are taught to react to and except what ever they are told in regard to left wing propaganda. This pretty much defines why the left buys into it.

Along with this is debt load, When folks have to pay off everything from student loans to house payments with the understanding that without the same level of income they would be living under a bridge. Well they are not inclined to rock the boat you know. These things are changing as more folks are seeing through the vale of lies getting away from the broadcast news fluffy propaganda. Supporting a presidential candidate that is interested in the well being of this country without promoting a colonialist foreign policy. ( Ron Paul ) There are more and more of us all the time, that understand that buying into the same old political BS and manipulation just does not make it any more.

Will Rogers used to say this, and I have seen it to be true.

You can fool part of the people all of the time.

You can fool all of the people part of the time.

But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

One of the things I have learned is when it comes to elected officials pleasing everyone, well it just is not going to happen. Complaints are constantly being thrown at them for entirely selfish reasons along with valid concerns. Much of their job is discernment about what is a real issue and what is coming from a personal selfish viewpoint.

Granted there are representatives that make decisions from their own selfish viewpoint that demonstrates a lack of regard for others. There are also those representatives that get burnt out while they do there level best of make things better, all the time getting criticized for not reacting to every other problem that may or may not be valid.

Is it any wonder that so many of them get jaded and start looking at the hand that offers them a bribe in the name of campaign contributions etc.

Now crazyhorsesghost I appreciate your passion and daily efforts to provide for the needy, this is a blessed thing. In many cases these folks are in this situation by no fault of their own. I understand this, I also read how you were concerned about so many people loosing their jobs in the textile industry as well. Lets look at the textile industry as one of many industries that priced them selves out of the USA. Among other causes including government getting involved in manipulating free enterprise and excessive left wing regulations. We can look at industries relationship to unions and all the fat retirement plans. We can look at industries that sold out to shill inc’s. to gobble up the pensions and disappear. There are so many different perspectives, and there is so much selfishness as well. It just ain’t that easy, but I do know that we need to be careful not to generalize and stereotype to easily either.

Another thing I know is that throwing out all the crooks in government would be a good thing. The problem comes up about creating a vacuum for more selfish people to take their place. I also know that Obama and his progressive left wing Democrats are trying to bankrupt this country. There are many in the world that want to destroy this USA in favor of their Marxist agenda, claiming equality and justice for all the downtrodden. I have been around their fires as well. Truth is they just want to be the boss of us and make conditions even worse. We can look at any commonest nation to see this truth.

I will draw this to a close with a couple more things, I learned along the way.

Responding comes from a place of love.
The definition of Responsibility is " the ability to respond ".

This says something about the future and the decisions we make today.

Reacting comes from a place of fear.
We in this country are constantly manipulated by fear.

In order to not be manipulated by fear we need to understand who is pulling the strings, and why. At this time it is the liberal socialist one world order. / Fabians.

What are we going to do about it?

Every politician in DC is a crook - save two or four - and all the candidates for presidency are the biggest crooks of all - save one.

What?! Do you ACTUALLY expect people to vote for someone who DOESN'T want to screw you over?

If so, please check out Ron Paul.

        Evan
Apparently you did not understand the text you are reacting to.
You might read it again and again as needed until you understand  it addresses your reaction. it addresses the need to be responsible.
"That is what to do about it.  Don't get caught up in the fear and negative campaigning. Do the homework and be prepared to do as the founding fathers directed to do if a tyrannical government emerges to take away our liberties. But first we must give the system a chance to work in the next election.. We know this country can not survive another 4 years of the Obama madness.

What we can do about it is to take responsibility for educating everyone we can about the candidates, get involved  with the process of selecting candidate's. Be part of your local Tea Party and if it is not doing the job
improve it to where it is a stronger more viable working group.  Network with the state Tea party and the national Tea Party to focus on success.
Caution If you go on line there sever links for  tea party that are only into mining information from us. Don't despair.  I don't believe I can post links in this HUB or I would.

We can do everything we can to stop the NDAA for a start.
        I hope this helps

Then tell me which politician from the Republican side would save us all. And have you read their records. And what they have done in the past. Can you imagine electing Newt. That would be one of the most irresponsible things that we as an American people could ever do.

And I agree we need to be responsible but we need politicians that are going to be responsible about addressing the real issues facing our country.

          1. Hunger in America, Not one dime should go over seas as long as we have one hungry American.

          2. The Homeless Issue, 14.000 Homeless People are sleeping on the streets of New Orleans. Some put the estimate as high as 15.000. All these many years after the hurricane a block or two out of the French Quarter and little has changed. And this is just one city. Not one politician from either of our fine parties are screaming about this issue.

          3. NAFTA should be repealed. And either we should ban textile and steel imports or say that 75 percent of all products sold in the USA must be made in the USA. Whole cities in many many southern American cities look like Ghost Towns. Why is no politician screaming about this. Not a word from either of those fine parties.

          4. Our American bridges and roads are in desperate need of repair. Obama is the only one saying anything about this but I'm not endorsing him either. A public works program to repair all our bridges and roads would be great. Use the non violent prisoners from our over crowded prisons to do most of the work. Many of our National Parks need major repairs also.

          5. We should legalize marijuana and stop locking people up for it. We could tax it and use that money responsibly and not let the politicians use it for their pet projects.

And there are many more issues facing America that should be addressed. We need a President that is going to lead and not be lead around. We need A President that is going to be for America first. And I'm sorry but I don't think the Tea Party is the answer either. They are for their own political agenda and not for the issues of America. At least not the important issues anyway. What do you think that our founding fathers would say about the politically correct America we have stood by and let be created. I say throw all the politicians out of office and start over. We need real change not a lot of empty promises.

            Well crazyhorsesghost
I understood your list of issues the first time I read them.
No need to repeat them again.

It seems that you did not glean much from my comments.
So at this point I would like to know are you looking for a hand out or a hand up.
The hand out being like someone that speaks all politically correct.
bringing you a fish to eat every day and eventually telling you everything you can and mostly can not do. The left wing linear socialist.
Or would you like a hand up like some one teaching you how to catch your own fish? Assisting with guidance to learning how to get your community more self reliant    More right wing conservative and eclectic.

Just a foot note, I would like you to know my best friend is a Native American.

I believe very much in a hand up. If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach him to fish you feed him forever.

I would like to see a lot of the empty buildings across the USA turned into Homeless Centers where Homeless People could live and work raising their own food and really contributing to society.

I have been working for a number of years on two projects like this. One is more successful than the other. We are raising tilipia in old farm tanks and produce a lot of fish to feed people this way.

I would love to see it scaled up and all the old buildings and land across the USA used for projects like this.

But at the same time there are a lot of seniors and children here in America that must be provided food. They are unable to provide for their self.We see more seniors coming to ask for food now than we have ever had.

We just got through feeding red beans, rice, and cornbread to 773  people a few minutes ago. 22 of those were children. We gave the children chicken tenders. Across the USA tonight several million people showed up at soup kitchens, food sites, and churches to eat. But a lot of people will try to tell you we have no hungry Americans.

In downtown New Orleans tonight sandwiches were handed out to 4236 people. Of that number 112 were children. So yes there is Hunger in America. Plus this is the end of the month and food stamps are running out.

I have always said we need real solutions to the homeless and hunger problems here in the USA. Not more band aid programs. But there needs to be major changes to the current programs and politicians and local government officials need to be required to be responsible and not rip the money off and use it for their own special interest projects. We may be at the point where we need to bring local and national politicians to trial for their actions. A few politicians tried for crimes against their people would shake things up. Maybe if we shot a few and billed their families for the bullets things would change.

During the Regan Administration several million mental patients were turned out of the places where they lived and most ended up on the street. Those who survive today are part of the problem.

Food Boxes Being Filled In New Orleans For Hungry Americans

In New Orleans the problem is that their has never been enough done by the state and federal governments. The last figures I saw said that 300.000 more want to come home to New Orleans but they have no homes to come home to.

We need to stop sending tax dollars over seas. As long as we have one homeless or hungry person here in America not one dime should leave this country. No not one dime.

Food Being Distributed In New Orleans

I find it really sad when I see people post around the Internet that there are no hungry children in America. I see hundreds every day and see the numbers from thousands in about 7 American cities. I see little kids hug a can of green beans and I turn my head to keep from crying. I teach many mothers every week how to make fry bread out of flour and spread it with peanut butter to feed their children. How we can continue to play political spin games when we have hungry Americans I don't know.

I believe your are doing all the right things.
I believe you are just the right person to be where you are doing the things you are doing.  Now I have a better understanding of what you are wanting to know., I will try again.  I am afraid it won't change much for you but at least you might get a better understanding of what is going on.

One thing is that many can sympathize with your plight and are traumatized by your images.  Believe it or not this works against you. Folks watching the 5:00 o clock  broadcast news have been conditioned to react of such images by asking the government for solutions. They want to throw you a fish and make it go away.  I would recommend study of the great apostasy By Paul McGuire as he explains the history and the way this is used to bring this country down. This should answer most of your questions in that direction.  The folks that are talking politically correct / the political left use your suffering to reach their own agenda.  This is difficult to explain, as they don’t see it.  The left you meet are part of the socialist program that is taking orders from folks above them and getting paid via tax deductible grants from large corporations and or direct from the current socialist government.  The powers that be do not want folks to move back to an area that is so vulnerable to disasters as you have experienced.  At this point, you and the other cities are experiencing a social manipulation, and in deed things are going to get worse before they get better.  The current administration is engineering the crises to bring about martial law as more and more people run out of anything to loose. In the event of invoking martial law what you experienced with the Katrina disaster will return in the form of  FEMA (THE MOST POWERFUL ORGANIZATION IN THE UNITED STATES) as it enforces ( Executive Order Number 12656 )  This sets the stage for suspension of the National elections in 2012. Obama sets him self up as the socialist dictator carrying out the agenda of the Illuminati / Fabians for a tyrannical government.  Sorry but it looks like these are the end times in the spiritual war between good and evil. Be assured that the Fabian wolf in sheep’s clothing is evil.  I hope that along with the food you are providing, you are also providing the love and salvation through Jahshuwah the Messijah and the Kingdom of Jah.
If in deed the lord lets this to play out a bit longer I would recommend getting past issues with the patriots in this country. Be aware of the NDAA and understand this is the last legal block for the Socialist Government to proceed.

Crazyhorsesghost I forgot the most obvious thing we can do. Promote the election of Ron Paul.
It is a sure thing Obama has not lived up to his promises.  Instead of running on what good he has done for the country he has to slam Ron Paul because he has not done anything good.
He has just spent 3.6 million dollars on a holiday to Hawaii and his wife took yet another 757 to Hawaii   How much help would that have been to the starving homeless?  Where is he in regard to concern for them?

Protests and riots and other forms of civil redress of grievance is always a direct result of a percieved executive governments failure to right a wrong done to the citizens in matters beyond the ordinary citizens ability. In fact, asside from the Ron Paul revolution there is another revolution going on in all of the U.S.A. and it was fomented by the executive powers in Washington D.C. It is a revolution between those whom believe that the Federal Government should run the people and those whom believe that the people should run the Federal Government! It is inevitable that ALL citizens in this nation will make the decision of whether they support a people run by the Fed. or the Fed. run by the people! Ultimately, the citizens that peacefully protest for redress of grievance are the citizens that choose for the citizens to run the Federal Government and the citizens that oppose them are the citizens that choose for a federal government that runs the citizens. And ultimately, no matter what reason a citizen of this nation may claim is the assumed cause or purpose of the grievance, the actual cause and purpose is to proclaim the they choose that the citizens run the Federal Government! Asside from the Ron Paul revolution it is the biggest revolution to happen in the history of humankind and it can’t be stopped no matter what happens to Ron Paul or anyone else. It is now the time when all citizens will divide by making their choice! The line in the sand has been drawn and the revolution has started!

Who can save us from this crap?

Well, armed with the power of "absolute control over the military", "veto power", "pocket veto power", "the power to pardon non-violent criminals", and "the power to not enforce unjust laws"...

the answer is clearly RON PAUL

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

OK, just about every one of the supposed problems assumes that government policy can fix the problems.

This is a false premise. "Legislation" does NOT equal "fixing problems".

That would be the very first false premise that you will have to fix - for each issue - before I bring up more.

“crazyhorsesghost “ did not ask how to       fix it.

In order to do that ,  the vast majority of Americans would have to see past the vale of the “progressive democrat propaganda”.
                    crazyhorsesghost calls this spin.

Tax paying Citizens need to clean house on a national level and return the clock back to at least 1924 and NOT validate the 4th branch of government (the Administrative branch)!  Our representatives on both the state and National Levels need to start and continue to do the job they are elected to and not delegate their responsibility / our rights away to the bureaucracy.  The one world order is not a world of laws but rules. Bureaucrats generate rules. We would also have to make sure and clean house in the Justice Dept. as well, they not only allow monopolies but condone them.  The Obama’s army of EPA Bureaucrats have generated in excess of 4,000 new rules to drive people out of business meanwhile turning their back on BIG Business.  Did you know that even a bail of hay laying in a field and even dust are considered hazardous waste.  Obama and his cronies are doing everything they can to destroy this country meanwhile hiding behind the sham / red haring  “ it’s the Republicans”, “ it’s the Republicans” fault and the majority of people watching broadcast news believe this.

Are we on the same page yet?

Provide an example of "real solutions."
As for the many who live on the streets, drugs are the primary problem. How would you solve this?
There is no reason that a child should go to bed hungry in this country as food stamps and welfare are at historic levels and again maybe the parents are using the money for drugs and that would include pot and higher taxation on that would help?
I agree with some of what you say, but, I believe that you are putting to many 'different' problems in the same bag.
If as you say government is the problem, how then can government be the solution?

      1. rhamson profile image71
rhamsonposted 10 years agoin reply to this

I don't think government has the solution as the government is not there for OUR best interests. What has changed over the years is the ever increasing ability to help yourself. With the regulations, market share and taxes the large companies buy up and snuff out competition. With this in mind either one has to be incredibly opportunistic or lucky to be able to break out of the mold that corporate America controls. This goes across all social and economic barriers. Unless you are in healthcare, government or the military you are in a shrinking market.

The government is suppose to operate in accordance with the Constitution and in doing so facilitates the best interest of the individual, individual freedom.

This country was founded upon two principles, individual freedom and free enterprise capitalism. With that in mind you are free to achieve or to fail.
Our government,  perhaps, since the advent of what is now the federal Reserve in 1913 and the late 30's with the introduction of The New Deal and then in the 40's with the Dec of Human  (UN) Rights government has become increasingly socialistic. That is that government has become the provider and the end result of your life.
Corporations (very large), business, in general, should be as religion. There should be a wall of separation and in this, we agree. Corporations however do not make laws, corrupt politicians do.
I think the story is much larger then what we are talking about and encompasses more than this country and it would seem that we are becoming a minor participant in that story line.

While the arms of the corporations are not the actual ones voting in chambers there is a undeniable connection to who caused those arms to go up or down depending on their handlers (corporate sponsors). This is what is shaping our country and who it is profiting in it. The set up is that sometime in the not too distant future the 1% er's will have all they need to rule us out of consideration.

....I think the story is much larger then what we are talking about and encompasses more than this country and it would seem that we are becoming a minor participant in that story line....

Absolutely!!! It has been that way since the Fed started bankrupting the country before WWII. The depression was a direct result of the Fed looting the treasury to bolster Europe's  failing currency. We don't have a chance as most Americans haven't a clue about what is going on. The value of the dollar is based on our debt. when is the debt going to over run us should be the question.

Having been in business most of my life and heading two small corporations, I can honestly tell you that corporations are not fond of or endorse the kind of government control that we are now seeing. The major players, like GM, the coal industry and others are just bigger pawns and are,  as we are, held hostage to, what is becoming, a omnipotent governmental process. Unions are, perhaps, more instrumental in this move toward  a socialist agenda than corporate America. To make a point here, the Teachers Union spent $100 million to support Obama  democrats and  lost in the last election. This is a  positive sign
I would agree with you that there are behind the scene players, but capitalism has nothing to do with it. Socialism is a contradiction to American capitalism and what we are seeing is probably something like fascism, a forced marriage by government of the very large corporations and government. Of course, one does not have to play along, but look to be sued, as many have been, by Eric Holder.
I would point you toward this, https://www.unglobalcompact.org/. For any corporation to do business globally, they are 'harvested' by the UN and essentially forced to sign this agreement. This may bring us to the bigger picture.
You are right about the Fed, which is government, and they have created the same environment today, as they did prior to the Great Depression.
Our current debt, at a continuing rate, will require interest payments of $1 trillion by 2019 or 2020, which is one third of all taxes paid to the Federal government. The outlook is a financial collapse.

With access like this I beg to differ about the corporate control. Remember it only takes a few who are in the game to sway a vote. The real trouble lies in that they contribute to both sides and care little of the outcome as either side is already bought. I agree that teachers unions and such have a powerful lobby but the corporations win hands down.

Wall Street owns Washington, resulting in Washington acting in Wall Street's best interest not the People's. For example:

Tom Wheeler, appointed chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which regulates communications in TV, radio, cable, wire  and satellite in all states (this commission is supposed to take the cable and wireless industry to task when they act in ways that are not in the interests of the public). What did Tom do before being made chairman of the FCC? He was a cable and wireless industry lobbyist, i.e. it was his job to persuade, cajole and bribe the government into doing what the cable and wireless industry wanted. Doesn't need to do that now, because he is the government. And how did he get this role? According to Time: "Wheeler, a former top cable and wireless industry lobbyist, raised more than $700,000 for Obama’s two presidential election campaigns". So the commision that exists to regulate the cable and wireless industry is now run by a lobbyist for the cable and wireless industry, who's money helped put the current President in power. What a great return on a 700k investment.

And so it goes. This can only happen because The People are distracted by the melodrama of daily politics and politicians, who are no more than characters acting out plot lines. 'Fans' root for their favourite characters and argue about who the best character is, seemingly content not to look behind the scenes at who is actually running the show. And who is running the show? Wall Street owns Washington (figuratively speaking), who owns Wall Street?

This is why I always get upset when people choose one politician and say HE is the problem and if we could just throw him out or impeach him or stop him the problem would be solved. The problem is systemic. We have a broken down system run by lawyers who know how to do their dirt and make it seem legal. Legal yes, moral no. We have to move more people through the system in order to find those that are about the peoples concerns and welfare and not trying to hang onto the power and money that is currently politics trappings. As long as we ignore the problem and concentrate on the ridiculous ideology of the large parties we will continue to re elect candidates after their own agendas.

It doesn't matter so much if the middle class disappears(they don't really disappear) ,so long as the poor remain poor.

It is a global idealology, in my opinion, but since the USA is such a large transparent nation ,her ills and weaknessess are often more visible.

How else can it be possible for a nation to have excessive wealth, and excessive poverty at the same time?

Well I don't know how the Big Foot Video got in there but to the best of my knowledge its a real video. It happened rather quickly and yes the video is short but that's the way it happened. I and my friend know for a fact that it was a real creature out there on that road with us but I know people would have their doubts if they were not out there on that lonely country road with us.

I personally think much of the land that was taken from the American Indians should be returned to them and I think if anyone in the world needs to be paid for what was done to them it should be the Native American People. Their lands were stolen from them and my own Grandmother was forced to go to a white mans school and forbidden to speak Sioux. I know its my own opinion but I am still as mad as hell about what was done to the Native American people. It was their land to start with. The white man had no right to their lands.

It is my sincere belief that most of the Republicans and Democrats are there for one reason and that is to fill their pockets. If a politician was faced with strict term limits and if we were to completely outlaw lobbyists then we would have a completely different political situation in Washington D.C. We should get rid of 95 percent of all Republicans and Democrats and I think some of them should be tried for treason and crimes against the American people.

I think every dime should have to stay here in America as long as we have hungry or homeless people here in the United States. Its really sad that we have as many hungry and homeless people as we have here in what is supposed to be one of the worlds richest countries. 15.000 homeless people are on the streets of New Orleans sleeping tonight. Many of those people are women and children. I don't see any politician from either party yelling and screaming about this issue. But they should be.

We have 8000 people a year die here in the USA every year because they can not afford to pay for medicine or health care. I assure you that each and every one of those 8000 Americans are very important to their family and friends. But yet we can send billions of dollars in aid to foreign countries.

Every day Monday through Friday I have Senior Americans come to my office to ask for us to purchase their prescription drugs for them. Do you know what a doughnut hole is in relation to how programs like Medicaid or Medicare will only pay for so much medicine and then the Senior American citizen has to choose to buy their medicine or buy food or pay utilities. How can this be fair in any way. Why do we as American citizens put up with this. Why indeed.

I know I feel strongly about my views. But I see the hungry and the homeless every day. Many of them children. Even one hungry or homeless child is one to many. But I don't see any Democrat or Republican candidate screaming about that issue either. I see little children hug cans of green beans because they know they will get to eat that night.

I think that we let the politicians get completely out of hand and we should stop the Republicans and Democrats and kick them out of office and keep kicking them out until they start to care about Americans and restore the American dream.

@Crazyhorsesghost - You are absolutely right that the left-right political circus is irrelevant and a distraction from what is really going on - the destruction of society for the many by a few. Because society is certainly being destroyed. When people are either without work or forced to work all the hours merely to survive, they have neither the time nor the means to interact socially, culturally or creatively with each other. And this is being forced on the majority by the greed of a small coterie of bankers and corporate bosses with the total acquiescence and even connivance of the career politicians.

I don't agree with you that US should ignore the rest of the world, but it should lead by example, by first addressing its own poverty and homelessness and rebuilding its strength from the ground up. Then the world would take you seriously again.

You know tonight I was with a large group of people feeding dinner to homeless and hungry men , women, and children. We got 90 percent of that food raiding dumpsters where the food had been thrown away.

We gave little treat bags of candy that were donated and I was happy to see some very happy children and adults. Its really sad the smiles that a hot cup of cocoa can bring to some peoples faces. I cry every day because I know there are men, women, and children out there we are not feeding. Everyone in America should be mad as hell that some where tonight there are hungry Americans.

I stood there tonight and thought about how lucky some people have it and other people do not. Tomorrow I will play Santa Claus and hand out presents. I am always grateful to God that we are able to give presents to children who would otherwise get very little.

You may not know or believe it but there are a lot of very hungry people right here in the USA including women and children. They don't want T Bone Steak. They just want a meal. I struggle daily with seeing that children get milk. Yet tens of thousands of gallons of milk go in to dumpsters. I don't resent anything the poor need or have. You see there  are a lot of false stories and urban myths reported as fact by the news media about the poor and hungry.

I was raised on a Native American Reservation at Pine Ridge and believe me I have saw more suffering than the average man. I became a Catholic Priest as a young man but I became disillusioned and resigned. For the last 18 years I have cried, prayed, trespassed, and committed other acts of civil disobedience to try to feed and shelter my fellow Americans. I am not a selfish man and really live on very little. I spend almost every waking moment of every day trying to do more for my fellow man. I worry about children who have nothing. I worry about the sweet potatoes I removed from dumpsters yesterday. Will there be enough to feed some to everyone tomorrow night. No we don't need t bone steaks. We need peanut butter to feed hungry children. And I wish we could find people to donate powdered milk. I wish I had more blankets and plastic sheeting for those 15.000 plus people sleeping on the streets of New Orleans. Three months ago it was 14.000 people. I fear it may become 18.000 people in the near future. I worry that one day I won't be able to feed the people who show up hungry and I wonder why or how my fellow Americans can deny or over look the problem. And I pray for the people who deny the problem. I pray their eyes will be opened. I pray for milk for children who have none. But no we don't need T Bone Steak or lean ground beef. We need all Americans to realize we have a serious problem in this country and our government really doesn't give a damn. God Bless Everyone and Merry Christmas. Remember the reason for the season. And remember the hungry children.

@crazyhorsesghost - I like the way you think, and the way you write.  To begin, the way this country treated the Native Americans is a shame that should never go away.

Our politicians are a joke whose first and foremost concern is their own selfish motives.  Few of them ever leave these cushy jobs anything less than multimillionaires.  They put on circus side shows with lots of smoke and mirrors, and of course artificial deadlines, so the clock can run out with nothing accomplished. And we are supposed to believe they worked their butts off trying to help us.  They pass laws for us but grant themselves exemption for those very laws, such as insider trading.

We have people literally starving in this country, but we give billions to other countries.  We still give foreign aid money to China, who then loans it back to us and we pay interest on the loan.  How stupid can they get?  I'm told that foreign aid is all on one sheet of paper.  So the way it is structured, they can't just scratch one country off the list, the entire list would have to be rewritten which of course would take years.  How stupid is this?

Many movie stars are praised for their generous giving to schools, orphanages, etc.  Not help here in the USA mind you, but in countries like Africa.  OK, Africa needs help too, but how about helping a little here at home first if they want to wear that hero's badge.

Our system is not only broken, but it is not keeping up with the situations that exist today.  We keep increasing and extending Welfare programs.  But why?  Because we do little or nothing about creating jobs.  If we had jobs we would not need to worry so much about welfare.  Welfare programs are necessary, but a band aid that hides the real problem.

They spend a great deal of time and effort pitting the left against the right, then sit back over drinks and good cigars and laugh like hell at us.  While fighting with each other we pay no attention to what they are doing, or should I say not doing.

Those two words sum the situation up nicely.

Politicians enrich themselves by doing favors for their backers -- favors such as allowing our jobs to leave the country, ignoring our own social needs and all the while they spin it as being for our own good. And we buy it.

The disgraceful acts of the present congress should finally be enough to wake everyone up to the fact that we're being had -- by both parties.

If we ignore the smokescreens and half-truths, we find that the system as a whole needs a radical redo. That can be done very effectively by voting out every single incumbent who is up for reelection in Nov 2012. Maybe they'll understand what it is like to stand in the unemployment line after they try it for themselves.

The ideal to stop working would send a strong message but you would never get the average American to go along. The real reason for this is that two weeks of lost income would put the average American on the street.

The Republican / Democrat political games will continue until the American people refuse to keep playing the games.

We need radical change in this country. We need a third party that would be for the American people and America first.

The food being served here was raided from dumpsters. With out this food your fellow Americans would go hungry. $200.00 in Food Stamps will not feed a human being adequate food for a month. Most Americans get less than $200.00. Some Seniors , yes American Seniors get $10 - $50 a month. Try eating on that.

Why is no politician screaming about starving and hungry Americans. Yes they do exist.

But they keep the average Democrat and Republican fussing with each other through their political games. This should not be allowed to continue.

Are you kidding?  My wife and I budget $300 per month for groceries, but that includes toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap for dishes, laundry and showers, cat food, soda pop and all the other myriad purchases one makes at a grocery store.  I doubt that we spend $100 per person per month for food - a $400 food budget for the two of us would be heaven, with steak and lobster every day.

My mother, living alone, probably doesn't spend much over $200 per year for food - she grows all her own vegetables and eats little meat.  My son and wife, with 4 kids, budgets $600 for all grocery purchased products.  $200 per month per person is double what they spend.

While I agree with much of what you say here, this is part of the problem - the poor demand and expect the same things that workers have and more.  They want top quality meats and canned goods.  They want quick meals without the effort of putting it together themselves.  They want cell phones, flat screen TV's and cable service.  They want their thermostat set to 78 degrees.  People can get by on far less than most think.

That does not mean that no one needs help - they certainly do and I agree that giving money to China while people are cold and hungry in our own country is a travesty.  This country gives enough away each year to keep everyone in the country warm and fed.  Not necessarily with all the luxuries they want, but with full bellies.

CNN recently did a story where someone tried to live on $200 a month and he did but it was on Noodles, Beans etc. You must live in a area where the food is a lot cheaper than here.

I doubt it.  Bread is $3+ a loaf - unless we go to the "bread store" where it's $1 per loaf for day old.  A can of corn is 90 cents - unless we go to the cheap places where it's less than 50 cents but has stems in it.  Hamburger is well over $3 a pound - unless we buy 10 lb. chubs of 27% for $2.38 per pound.  Steak I don't know - you don't eat steak on $100 per person per month.  And we do eat more pasta than is healthy.

So when Uncle Sam sees fit to take what little I have and give it to someone to buy high quality canned foods, extra lean hamburger and T-bone steaks I'm not real happy with it.

            wilderness,

Just quickly wrote a days worth of meals out, as follows,

            Breakfast
            1 cup milk  (4.00 a gallon)   .25
2 cups cereal  (4.00 per large bag)  .50
            1 banana (.50 lb)    .25

            LUNCH
2 cups homemade vegetable soup (Made and frozen)
               2 cans tomatoes (food warehouse)
               2 cans tomato sauce
                1 can corn
                 1 can green beans
                  1 can kidney beans
                   6 potatoes cubed
                    onion salt
                     salt
Around 8.00 to make.  roughly 1.25 per serving
               cornbread muffin.  .25

            DINNER

            Fried chicken liver
            stewed potatoes
            green beans
            cornbread muffin
            approx 1.5 serving

That is around 130.00 a month. Does not include any of the needed extras to prepare the food such as salt, oil, eggs, flour, etc.

Living on 200 a month is very doeable,  I have done it just to prove I can and that it isnt unhealthy, or boring as one might think.

BUT what I think the other post was saying, is how can a homeless person cook a meal if he/she has no where to prepare it at?

You  can live on $200.00 of groceries a month. But you will have to be very frugal though. You will have to eat noodles, beans, starches, etc. If you have no home to cook in its almost impossible.

There is fraud in food stamps. In some cities there is a lot of fraud in food stamps. But not all fraud is committed by the person receiving the food stamps. I know of and have reported stores for selling hot food, gas, and tobacco products. It is wide spread and I know I have reported at least 50 stores and many of them have lost their food stamp privileges. Some people sell their food stamps for half price to get cash to buy drugs. It happens. Believe me I have seen it. And see it almost every day.

But I see people every day who live on the street and have lived on the street so long they have give up on life and no longer try to get food stamps or any other type of help. I see people( Seniors ) turned down because they have a grave site paid for. I see all kinds of horrors. I see lots of senior Americans who draw $460.00 a month and pay $350.00 for rent, $150 - $200 for utilities and they have other expenses. I know of many seniors who get $10 to $50 in food stamps a month. How can you live on that. How. I see more Seniors today at our food pantries than I have ever seen.

According to U.S. Government estimates 49 million Americans live at or below the poverty level. 13 million children are hungry or borderline hungry tonight. But no politician from either party is screaming about this issue. WHY!!!!!!!!!!!

Every year right here in America an average of 8000 Americans die because they can't pay for medical care or prescription drugs. How can there be any justice in this.

Several key issues face Americans every day. The main issues are.

              1.Hunger in America
              2.Homeless in America
3.The Health Care Program in this country does not work
              4. Millions of people lost their jobs because of NAFTA and politicians from both parties pushed this through

But you don't see politicians screaming about those issues. No not one. I say throw all the bums out of office.

If tomorrow we had one term or two term limits on the Congress and Senate and we outlawed any lobbying in Washington D.C. we would see a whole new world in the the USA. If we passed a law that not one dime could go out of this country if we had one homeless or hungry American you would see a different world. If we outlawed textile imports or even said that 75 percent of all textile products must be made in the USA we would create jobs and maybe just maybe the American dream would be alive again.

Its really sad the things that the Republicans and Democrats have done to the USA in the last 50 years or so. I don't see how either party can get any American to support them. But they play their little spin games and use smoke and mirrors to lead the average American around and keep your mind off the real issues. God Bless Everyone And Merry Christmas.

Frugal and have a place to cook.

I am trying to figure out a way someone could live on 200 a month without a place to cook.

Takes me back to thinking in the western days.  Could be possible.

Either way, where would the nutrients come from? We are what we eat and without proper nourishment our bodies tend to fall ill.

I would like to say thank you for all that you are doing to help those in need.

Fraud?  It happens.  More than one realizes. I have mixed feelings on whether or not this should be addressed by the gov or by the churches or by who. I believe the gov got involved because the lack of support from the others and after that, the others developed the mentality that they no longer "had" the burden.

One constellation MAY be, at present, the 49 percent will become 51 percent which would be a majority. Just think about the things a majority could accomplish.

Yes there is but it is often made up of Republicans and Democrats who want to continue the same political in fighting that continues to corrupt and destroy our country.

We need a third party that would be for America and the Americans first. And to hell with any thing else.

The American Dream is dead. Up until the last twenty years or so each generation could expect to be better off than the generation before.

Whole cities in many American states are now little more than ghost towns after all the textile jobs were allowed to be sent over seas. The American citizens should rise up in mass and demand an end to textile imports. Why NAFTA was ever allowed is beyond me. The Republicans and Democrats both did this to the American people. Keep in mind Nero fiddled while Rome burned.

It has nothing to do with big screen TVs. It has to do with the basic needs of Americans being met. 15.000 people are living on the streets of New Orleans tonight and another 300.000 people still can't come home even all these years after the hurricane.

8000 people a year die every year in the USA because the people can't afford prescription medicine or medical care.

This country is in one hell of a mess and no one is really trying to fix it.

NAFTA didn't do anything for the average worker in America, I agree. But there are other industries under attack such as the coal, gas, oil, and logging industry. Many of the environmental issues we face today doesn't take into account how many people will be out of job. When people have no money, they cannot support grocery stores or any other store. No job means they can't pay taxes. The states that have gone through the horror of having jobs eliminated because people think it is more important to save a spotted owl or some other such animal that gets in the way of producing heat, electricity and mostly a paycheck than people's lives are experiencing poverty themselves.

    1. profile image55
geordmcposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The only thing NAFTA did for me was the loss of at least two jobs that paid well enough to just cover my bills. As for the coal, gas and oil industries, they should start funding research into renewable resources that will help relieve our dependence on foreign oil.

      1. crazyhorsesghost profile image74
crazyhorsesghostposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I agree 100 percent on our dependence on foreign oil. We should be spending all the money that was spent say in Iraq on research on new sources of fuel for America. But there are tons of capped off oil wells all over the USA that are not being pumped. Why? Because they are waiting for the prices to go up.

Greed is one of the main things that is destroying America. If America is ever going to return to the days of glory when the America Dream was real then there are going to have to be some very hard changes to bring jobs back to America, provide medical care and prescription drugs to all Americans and provide places for all Americans to live. While your doing it the mental health system all across America needs to be improved and changed to really help people the way it did before Ronald Regan and his Administration ruined it.

America is slowly but surely circling the drain.

Hunger In America By The Numbers

    http://s4.hubimg.com/u/5925567_f248.jpg

Last year, 17.2 million households in the United States were food insecure, the highest level on record, as the Great Recession continued to wreak havoc on families across the country. Of those 17.2 million households, 3.9 million included children. On Thanksgiving Day, here’s a look at hunger in America, as millions of Americans struggle to get enough to eat in the wake of the economic crisis:

17.2 million: The number of households that were food insecure in 2010, the highest number on record. They make up 14.5 percent of households, or approximately one in seven.

48.8 million: People who lived in food insecure households last year.

3.9 million: The number of households with children that were food insecure last year. In 1 percent of households with children, “one or more of the children experienced the most severe food-insecure condition measured by USDA, very low food security, in which meals were irregular and food intake was below levels considered adequate by caregivers.”

6.4 million: Households that experienced very low food security last year, meaning “normal eating patterns of one or more household members were disrupted and food intake was reduced at times during the year because they had insufficient money or other resources for food.”

55: The percentage of food-insecure households that participated in one or more of the three largest Federal food and nutrition assistance programs (SNAP, WIC, School lunch program).

19.4: The percentage of food insecure households in Mississippi, which had the highest rate in the nation last year.

3.6 percent: The amount by which food prices increased last year.

30 percent: The amount by which food insecurity grew during the Great Recession.

44: The percentage increase in households using food pantries between 2007 and 2009. That is 44 percent of all Americans asked for food assistance.

20 million: The number of children who benefit from free and reduced lunch per day.

10.5 million: The number of eligible children who don’t receive their free and reduced lunch benefits.

$167.5 billion: The amount that the U.S. lost in 2010 due to hunger (lost educational attainment + avoidable illness + charitable giving to fight hunger). This doesn’t take into account the $94 billion cost of SNAP and other food programs.

8: The number of states (FL, TX, CA, IL, NC, NY, OH, PA, GA) where the annual cost of hunger exceeds $6 billion.

9: By U.S. Government Estimates 13 Million Children go to bed hungry each night right here in America.

Last year, “nearly half of the households seeking emergency food assistance reported having to choose between paying for utilities or heating fuel and food. Nearly 40 percent said they had to choose between paying for rent or a mortgage and food.” This Thanksgiving, as you sit down to enjoy a meal with family and friends, please spare a thought for those who, due to the country’s continuing economic woes, may not have enough to eat.

And if you can get the average Republican or Democrat to discuss those numbers with you let me know. You only see organizations begging for hungry American children around Christmas and Thanksgiving. Or that red kettle they ring at Christmas. I could tell you some horror stories about those people but I won't. Hint, a lot of that money ends up being used for administration fees.

America must wake up and stop playing the politicians political spin games. Maybe just maybe we are at a point when we need a revolution. I wonder what our founding fathers or even those Kennedy Brothers would say about the mess we find our-self in. They might even call for revolution. I support Occupy Wal Street. I just think more Americans should get involved. It would be nice to see the local police refuse to follow the orders to clean out parks. But that would be a perfect world wouldn't it. Merry Christmas everyone. And may God Bless You and Yours. May you never have to take your children to a Soup Kitchen or visit a Food Pantry for food. Peace.

Mom101 I appreciate your Challenge Thread you started. I agree completely people should be trying to take action rather than talking about it. I and 12 other people are waiting right now for dark so we can raid dumpsters of food thrown away. Tomorrow night it will be used to feed about 700 people who will line up to eat. Many children will be in that line. Last night I picked up food from 30 area restaurants that donated their left overs. I also work every day at trying to bring awareness to a problem that is not going away soon. Thanks again for your Challenge Thread. I appreciate it.

Our government better be able to help those people or you are going to see the USA break up in to several smaller countries just like Russia did. The only way we can change America for the better is to keep every dollar at home as long as we have the problems we have. The only way to save America is to fix the underlying issues. And fixing most of those issues are not going to be popular with the American people either. But radical change is coming one way or the other.

It is going to take radical change in thinking and actions. We must make some hard decisions that are not going to be popular with the rest of the world. Its the only way we can possibly ever restore the American dream. Ron Paul has some good ideals but I doubt they will ever be implemented.

The situation in this country is a lot worse than a lot of the politicians from either side of the aisle would have you know. Some states like Florida and Louisiana are really bad.

I would like to see the Occupy Wal Street Movement expand and see the police in various cities refuse to remove these protesters. Then you might see change. I know it wasn't in the USA but I remember people standing in front of tanks not so long ago in Moscow. It could and should happen right here in the USA.

Far too many people want to perch on a rock that overlooks two armies, doing nothing but taking pot shots at both sides whenever it serves themselves.

Occupy Wall Street had better start thinking about occupy helping people to vote next year or it will get worse.

Let us hope that it also gives a option to the current goals of the progressive socialist to shut down this country. Currently Obama’s little EPA army  is shutting down this country to where there are rolling brown outs. I know the EPA staff gets in excess of $38 billion a year. We need to get past the knee jerk response that the left wing environmental movement has had to just say NO to (us).  I know from personal experience this has worked to the detriment of the environment.  I believe we need to use critical eclectic thought that gets away from the either / or mentality.  We need to be responsible in our relationship to mankind and the environment.  By the way with this country becoming vulnerable to attacks from other nations as our power and industrial and resource base capabilities dwindle as a result of the Obama actions.
I for one am saying this foolishness has to stop. We need to diversify our energy options.  Granted big money needs to quit controlling our national government, this particularly means George Soros.
He should be allowed to be extradited back to France. So he will quit pulling the Obama puppet strings.

This is the kind of reasonable thought that we can hope to get, so we quit getting screwed over.  This is the way a republic is designed to function.
I think some of the NIBY is backlash from the linear mindset of the current environmental movement.  The elitist views of academia and the willingness to lie and tell people what they can and can not do on their own land has compounded the polarization in this country.

The only thing that can save America and restore it is strict limits on imports. Setting term limits on the Congress and Senate. We need to ban lobbyist from Washington DC.  And passing laws to prevent any money from being spent over seas as long as we have one homeless or poor person in this country. To save and restore America we will have to make radical changes to America. We may need to to bring  some politicians to trial  for their crimes against the American people. If we are going to lock up all the people we do in prison then we need to make them work on Americas roads, bridges, and other things that are falling apart and will really start to fall apart in the next 25 - 50 years.

The mindset of either political party is to fill their pockets with the tax payers money. And both parties including the Tea Party will tell you they have the solution. But I tell you the little changes they have in mind are not going to save America or restore it to its greatness. It is going to take earth shaking radical change to save and restore America.

I agree with most of this with the possible exception of restricted imports.
This sets the stage for inflation as there is no competition for excessive  union benefits and retirement agreements. We might want to look at setting limits on all Government salaries as well as having some control over unions collective bargaining.
This becomes difficult to do without slipping back into the socialist profile we are slipping into at this time with the Marxist Socialist we have for president and the progressive democrats.
Perhaps we need to look at ways to promote deflation and screw the bankers for a change.  We can hopefully remove the FED and all of this can only happen as more people wake up.

The average politician have only their agenda at heart.  He/she will say whatever the public want to hear in order to be elected.  This is a fact of life.  We Americans need to be grow up and be aware of the games that politicians routinely play.  We may "elect" our politicans but they are mastered by the corporations and special interest groups.   It is the rare politician who is actually concerned about their constituents.   Politics is actually a popularity contest- the name of the game is how can they get the MOST votes in order to get into their particular political office!  Let us get real and wake up to this fact!

you are so right gmwilliams. so right.

When are we going to wake up? I get so sick of hearing about all the racial or religious jargon that goes on during election time. It is futile. Period.

Race. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. Please. But here in the US, is there one true race? I  don't see it.  Except the fact that we are all humans.

There is good and bad in all races. Why is race such an issue during election?  We as humans, are we not bigger than an emotion? Apparently anger is the bigger for many.

Sure politics are steered by many a wheel.

I can' t figure it out. This is a time we should be making serious sound decisions. One of the people running for the highest office in this country will soon be our next president.

Lets examine them from their political record. Every body has a personal life. We are NOT electing a president to teach us morals, we are electing one to lead our country.

Very good re-ply, mom101. WE, got us into this mess, and, only WE, can get us out of it.

Remember people, YOU, The People, put them there. If you don't mind, mom101, I will pull a part of your Great re-ply out for all to, READ AGAIN.

You here know what I say, DO YOUR HOME WORK. This is what I mean.

( Lets examine them from their political record. Every body has a personal life. We are NOT electing a president to teach us morals, we are electing one to lead our country. )

The answer to the problem of dishonest and greedy politicians is
    term limits!
There are numerous reports that prove "Politics is profitable" and most become millionaires through direct and indirect "contributions."
I'm sick of corruption, lies and greed in our government, regardless of political affiliation!

      You are right Stacie
Now how do we get the legislative branch to vote for their own term limits?
This bill has been offered to them in the past.  I don't believe they allowed it out of sub-committee, to even get voted on.

Term limits. Yes, would be a good thing. But, like unavaialble says, which one do you think would vote to put himself out of office?

How to fix it? I have asked myself this for some time now.

We already have term limits. We are supposed to  Vote Them Out   but too many people aren't paying attention. People create their own problems.

Yes, we can start asking our selves empowering questions.

crazyhorsesghost and folks like him have access to thousands of people around the country that they are trying to take care of.  Many of them are persuaded to jump on the ACORN Scam but it appears that  crazyhorsesghost and others are aware of this sham.  Perhaps folks can network to support folks to represent us that are not forced down our throats by the broadcast networks. How do we develop or recognize a valid network that is beyond corruption and yet very effective?
We would need to not be betrayed by the socialist / occupier infiltrators.

One way that we can get better representation is to get the individual states to support repeal of the 17th amendment. This would be a long and slow process but it makes US senators have to answer for their action and be responsible to the States house of representatives. Provided we can turn around the socialist control of individual states.  There are no quick, easy solutions.

This may not work well but how about using the method of jury pools. When you are asked to serve you serve. Using this method does have it's drawbacks, but with those who are willing it should work well. No more elections to fix, the lobbies would have no idea who to buy off. Just a thought .

How might we make any changes without a viable network to effect any kind of change?
It is for sure that the broadcast news has been bought
And they are not viable any more.  Anarchy is throwing out the
      Baby with the bath water.
      I repeat my question.
How do we develop or recognize a valid network that is beyond corruption and yet very effective?

Right now they are controlling the American People with Spin. And the average American citizen falls for it. Its sad that the average American can not see what they are really doing to them with the political spin.
