What's the difference between a friend, a true friend and a best friend?
A friend can be any you stated. There is a long distance between a friend and a true friend.Any one you meet can be your friend.But a true is someone who scolds you in your mistakes, who loves you,who can give you relief in your adverse life situations, who cares for you( you may not know it some times) etc.And a best friend to you cannot be a true friend always.If it is , you are right in your selection of friends.
There is a saying in local language that "if your friend is good, you will not need a mirror, because he will act as your mirror reflecting the same you"
Elders always say that we must be always careful in choosing friends perhaps they (true friends) could save you from the worst times of your life and on the other hand, they could drag you to the worst mistakes of life.

(On the day of English homework checking day in school, Eddy was absent yesterday so he was not knowing of homework..)
Friend: "Hey Eddy, the next lecture is of English, you were absent yesterday so you can do the homework now, you can copy it from my notebook."
True Friend: "Hey Eddy, can I help you to complete your homework. Sorry that I was unable to inform you because of some problem"

A best friend is all of the above. Even so, they are current, oftentimes you know them for a long time (aka years). What separates a best friend from a friend is that the relationship is deeper, closer and you trust them more. Plus they prove to you that they are there for you through thick or thin. A best friend knows your struggles, your challenges and are there for the happiness and laughter along with the tears and grief. Something a friend oftentimes doesn't see. A best friend sees you at your worst and accepts you for who you are.
A true friend is all of the above. But to me a true friend is like a kindred soul. You connect to them in ways a friend and a best friend can't. Oftentimes people chose best friends based on how long they known someone, the longer the better. That isn't always the best thing. Sometimes people can change, sometimes you grow apart. An example is that you known your best friend since grade school (lets say you're 9 years old). Now you are 35 years old. A lot of things can change (including your values, beliefs, and interests). You can't really expect to be close to someone for all those years without you or them changing. Change is good, but sometimes two people can change in ways that causes them to move into two different directions. Plus when you're younger you don't know yourself as much as you start to know yourself when you get older. Life throws things at you that can show who you really are. Anyway to get back on point a true friend is someone that knows your soul. It's a spiritual bond where two souls connect to each other in ways that cannot be explain logically. You ever met someone whom you automatically feel comfortable with and trust. A true friend is that person no matter how long you know them. BTW a true friend can be a best friend (but with distinction). Things like change, time, distance, and death don't matter for a true friend. Perhaps this friend can be a soul mate (romantically or platonically). I think we all are striving towards a true friend. The answer to that question is their isn't any difference, for one to be a friend they have to be true, otherwise they are not a friend at all. Also if you are ever lucky enough meet this very rare person, I think they would fit the definition of a best friend.

1. A friend to me is someone that you consider as an acquaintance. You may not see or talk to very often but are your friends.
2. A true friend is someone that is there for you through highs and lows; one that you can trust will not talk badly about you behind your back and can tell you the truth even if it’s hard to do so. If they have something to say they will say it to your face. However this may be a one-sided relationship.
3. A best friend is like a true friend. I believe a person can have more than one best friend in life. A best friend is someone you share things with that you wouldn't share with others. This is mostly a two –sided relationship but can be one-sided. Just because one feels you are their best friend doesn't mean you feel the same way. I have at least six people that are my best friends and after thirty – years, I know if I called anyone of them, they would be there for me and I would be there for them. One would hope that if they are your best friend that they are also a true friend. Throughout life someone could start out to be a best friend but as we grow they may no longer hold that title. For example, your best friend in kindergarten may not be your best friend as an adult due to moving and not keeping in touch or other issues may be a factor in this case.
