I don't deny there's plenty of evil in the world; but evil is one thing.  Devils are another.  This is the only kind of devil that exists, as far as I'm concerned:

thanks, by your logic devils everywhere can come out of the closet and live free! But how can the devil have a healthy outlook on life if those among us (and I'm not mentioning names here)do not so much acknowledge his existence! then how could he expect people to believe in him if he does not even believe in himself?! Maybe if his self esteem improves he'll patch things up with that god dude and we all get spared that annoying burning in hell for all eternity shindig.

If there is God there is Devil too. God and Devil is within us.

If you believe in God, then there is a Devil.

If you don't believe in God, there is no Devil.

The Devil will appear to some Christians but you will never hear of someone who doesn't believe in God, saying they saw the Devil.

It's all about what you believe and what your mind creates.

There's a lot to say about The Devil - I still believe there are many devils and they only have as much power as we let em have -maybe I just mean "demons" . So yeah. The concept of A DEVIL with complete and total evil power is outdated, we don't NEED that kinda devil any longer because we KNOW we can now take responsibility for so much that happens in our lives. So if we know that we are both Devil and Angel in our own lives we learn to be responsible for our inspired or stupid actions.  The imagery around THE DEVIL and all that is purty neat, acshully!  And as part of our cultural identity it will always be there.  Some of us may still need to see what we call "The Devil's work" in the world and attack it, but most of us know by now that humans just make a lot of mistakes because we are such a young species with alot to learn.  So be at PEACE brothers, sisters! and "the devil" cannot harm you!

    Rick,

No problem here. You're more educated than I am. I never attended college. Life experiences and understanding of those experiences is a lot more important than higher education.

I've always found higher education a gimmick for those who want to create value for themselves while diminishing life for those around them. Not all, but most have no real intention on help people.

So, on that note...let's(you and I) try to be better people and learn from one another. Because, if we don't try, what does that say about us as individuals?

I look forward to talking with you more.

If you believe in God, you must believe in the devil.  God says he is real and that he controls the powers of darkness in this world.  If you don't believe in God, believing in the devil is another story.  But how would we explain the gross wickedness in our world?

Well they can't mean you, as you don't believe in him do you?

Read your God hub last night, good writing, liked the poteed history, but can you tell me, during the time you called yourself a Christian, were you 'infilled with the HolySpirit'?

I'm not having a go at you, I'm genuinely interested in whether it's essential for any believer to have the Holy Spirit to be a Christian, or not?

          1. aguasilver profile image73
aguasilverposted 15 years agoin reply to this

I did enjoy your hub (and will again, though I leave cars to mechanics)... but you neglected to answer the question (or I may be a bit thick):

"Well I was totally convinced that I was" you said, but convinced that you were what:

            a) A Christian
            b) Filled with the Holy Spirit

You see my premise is that ONCE(that word which starts the sentence ONCE saved always saved, so loved by the church members)somebody has experienced the infilling of the Holy Spirit, they could never deny God, Christ, shucks let's just say the Trinity and be done with it!

Now IF you were 'Holy Spirit Filled' then you must have needed to DENY the Holy Spirit; if you are now saying that you were never 'saved' or a'a Christian' or --------- (insert whatever you want to call whatever happened to you in 1967.

If on the other hand you were not 'Holy Spirit Filled' then you joined Churchianity, and it's no wonder that you lost respect and faith in the whole thing.

Were you 'Holy Spirit Filled' and have you denied the Holy Spirit?

I'm asking that because the last time anybody invited me to preach in a church,I spoke on OSAS, and I got heckled and it took a twenty minute question and answer session afterwards, before I could get out!

The pastor told me it took him two weeks to calm them all down, and all because I was led to speak on OSAS (Once Saved Always Saved)

They liked that topic, until I stated that in my opinion (and research) the onus was on the word ONCE, because most of the Christians I have met were not so much saved, as led through a sinners prayer and added to the number, then we went over how you could spot if you had been 'ONCE' saved, (rather than saved once) and when we did that, some got mighty uncomfortable, whereas others got mighty disgruntled.

Of course those who knew Christ and were in discipleship had no problem, and enough sense to stay quiet.

Most churches are full of 'tares', we know that, it's the way God planned it, it's the safest way to hide the 'remnant' until it's time for them to step up to the plate and bat.

OK without knowing your full experience with (presumably) Ozzie Evangelicals I can't comment on your decisions, but I do know this; Moses was in the wilderness for forty years, staring at the back end of sheep and wondering what went wrong.

When God spoke to him, he had to ask who it was (mind you bushes rarely speak to me either)- I would think it quite possible that Moses may have held some pretty bad opinions of 'puny little gods'

Just maybe this 'puny little god'will have something for you to do?

earnestshubposted 15 years agoin reply to this

My experience was 100% genuine to me at the time, complete with the usual inflation and dillusion often described by religionists. smile
I am familiar with OSAS, and have no opinion on that these days of course as it is irrelevant to my beliefs.
I spent little time in the church, as there was little need with my associate having more bible knowledge than was believable. He could quote from every part of it in all 3 languages used in the bible.
He was very smart in many ways, yet one of the biggest fools I have met in my life so far. smile
If you can cope with my writing, he does get a mention in my religion hub.
Many christians are still flogging an omniscient/present/potent being. This is patently absurd.
There is not enough bulldust in the world to fill that scriptural hole.
As for god answering prayers of religionists while letting little children die as they do makes my blood boil as it should!
What sort of petty little god would be so evil?

              Evil is easy to see.
It is hunger, hate, poverty, indifference to the plight of others, seeing suffering and doing nothing is evil.

              1. aguasilver profile image73
aguasilverposted 15 years agoin reply to this

I always see this accusation as a 'mirror' - you see God ANSWERS prayer, albeit not always as we wish Him to, but He does ANSWER PRAYER... and as MOST of the world worships their own personal gods (money, power, status, or the god of your choice)- well they ain't talking to Him (any more than you are nowadays)

If seek and you shall find is relevant (and it is) then don't ask and you won't receive definitely is relevant.

If you (or anyone else) wants God to stop "hunger, hate, poverty, indifference to the plight of others" then JOIN those who do speak to God in prayer, rather than empower Lucifer with all the accusations against God that rationalists make.

We are responsible for EVERY word that we speak, because every word is either a prayer to God or an empowerment of Lucifer.

                ------------------------------------------------------------

But you still have not answered my real question ('strewth man I made it clear enough)

Were you 'Holy Spirit Filled' and have you denied the Holy Spirit?

Strewth man, I do not see anywhere in your scriptures about provisos! The promise is clear enough, and an obvious lie.
As for the words you would like to stuff down my throat, I salute you, but not politely if you know what I mean. You can stick your religionists crap about the holy spirit filled too.
I told you truthfully about my experience, so like a five year old you give me the old "did the world move for you lets measure that" routine. I would rather have a Grown up discussion if you don't mind. smile!

        Hello Rick,

        Nice to see you again.

However, he wasn't talking about 'talking' to the lord everyday.

He said he SAW Jesus Christ and feels the 'holy spirit' take control of his consciousness, as though, he steps aside while 'it' does its work.

There is a severe difference between you talking to air, requesting help or guidance.

And, no I don't think you are craxy, per se. That terminology is only reserved for those who really are 'nuts'.

I've got no problem with people who ask 'god' for help, because that is part of their system of belief. I understand that.

But, when someone claims to have seen specifically "Jesus Christ' who has been dead for 2000+ years....there is something else wrong, in reality.

It concerned me for his health and overall well being.

        1. aguasilver profile image73
aguasilverposted 15 years agoin reply to this

See my last post and please quote me correctly, I have not said I have 'seen' Christ, I have stated that I am in daily contact with a LIVING GOD.

You may as well tell me that the wind does not exist, and if you lived in a triple glazed, air con building, never venturing out, you may well argue that it did not, because you would not have any hard evidence to explain it.

Or why not tell me that love does not exist... you cannot touch it, feel it, taste it or see it, yet I don't find anyone telling me that "there is something else wrong, in reality." because I am in 'contact' daily with love and believe in it's existence.

Simply answer my earlier question and we will know where we stand.

Have you NEVER had a spiritual encounter?

The definition of spiritual, so we are on the same page:

    Spiritual:

    (1) of the spirit or the soul, often in a religious or moral aspect, as distinguished from the body.
    (2) of, from, or concerned with the intellect, or what is often thought of as the better or higher part of the mind.
    (3) of or consisting of spirit, not corporeal.
    (4) characterized by the ascendancy of the spirit; showing much refinement of thought or feeling.
    (5) of religion or the church; sacred, devotional, or ecclesiastical; not lay or temporal.
    (6) spiritualistic or super natural.

Those are all the definitions. If I am to understand correctly, according to the definitions I have laid out- then NO!

Why? Because, it would mean I have encountered something not of this world. But, then again, I don't deal in non-real things.

And, if you have any intention- to claim that your own individual body has a spirit or a soul, I would like to remind you- those specific words are adjectives to describe an individual person, who is real.

You don't have a spirit or soul inside your body. You have blood, organs and many other things, which can be physically identified, through science called anatomy.

Life science is an exact science. Each human being has the exact(identicial) make up or form. There is no Life essence, which will travel to some unknown place when your life ceases. Never been proven to exist and therefore no reason to believe it does exist.

Like I said before, what is real is the problem in our discussion.

And, as I have said stated before- Aristotle, famous science and philosophy master has defined reality. It exists independently from will, wishes, desires and thoughts.

Which means, you can not alter reality, because it is all knowable. I consider that to be determined by the 5 senses the human body uses to judge the differences between real and fake.

And, I also noticed that you skipped over my question and became defensive for what I said earlier. Again, I've apologized for mistakenly taken your words out of context.

How ever- now you can answer it.

    Religion created by man.

    Religious text written by man.

We agree on that at least...Right?

    Okay, good.

Now- Had Man NOT created religion or religious text....Would we be having this discussion?

    No, we would not be.

You would not even have your belief.

P.S. Just to let you know......LOVE and WIND can be determined by FEELINGS, which happens to be 1 of 5 senses you have. These things are NOT of a spiritual nature.

    1. aguasilver profile image73
aguasilverposted 15 years agoin reply to this

But I do and have determined by FEELINGS many spiritual encounters.

The fact that you (like Richard Dawkins) have shut yourself off from spiritual experiences by denying their 'reality' is something I understand.

If one chooses to live in a 'sealed bunker' with no contact with the external world, one could never 'feel the wind on your face, nor experience love for another person, who would not be there anyway.

Our horizons are as extant as our vision, so if we 'blind' ourselves in order to not see what we cannot deal with.....

If you are devoid of spiritual contact, so be it, your refusal to be open has denied you access to the real truth of existence.

WE are spirit, I know you cannot see that, but we ARE spirit, and this brief time here in this earthly body is nothing more than a testing time to see how we develop spiritually, whether we turn to Gods Holy Spirit for our sustenance, or Lucifer's world spirit.

I have felt BOTH of them, the FEELINGS were real.

I cannot deny either exists, any more than I could deny my mother had existed.

There is more evidence of their existence that ever existed to prove my mother walked this earth.

None so deaf as those that will not hear. None so blind as those that will not see.
      Mathew Henry

Please understand, not an attack on you, but the quotation that came to mind, and I realise that from your perspective, you could apply the same quote to me!

Perhaps we believers and rationalists can never agree!

Maybe we are not meant to?

    Another biblical lie!

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  (Matthew 7:7-8 NAB)

Partially correct, c'cos we need to be asking within the will of God, seeking the truth and trying to open doors that God has not shut firmly for our own protection.

You can pull scripture to suit your purpose just as I can, but if you studied bible for two years (as I did) you must know that you need to take things contextually, and if we were to quote the whole chapter, a different picture would emerge.

You're angry with God, that's fair enough, either get over it or 'curse God and be dead' like Job's wife said. smile

    Hey tantrum and earnest,

I see thing are going as well here as they are in another forum.

I've manage to go into two different forums and shut both of them up?

Don't ask. I'm not sure myself.

But, I do find it interesting and I wanted to ask you both a question and I'm pretty sure you'll give me an honest answer.

Would you like to be immortal?

    Would you like ever-lasting life?

Basically both question are the same thing, but really aren't. Because of religion.

Immortality cannot be achieved until your dead, according to religion. You must be re-born? To achieve Immortality.

Now, think carefully before you answer. Because I ask for a reason which I'll point out after you have answered.

I asked a couple of other hubbers and I'm now going to ask you.

Would you want to be immortal?

    Would you want ever-lasting life?

Now, I ask this because, those two things have different meanings, depending on how you look at it?

And, one perspective would lead you to believe religion? and the other not?

    Right?

  50. Valerie F profile image61
    Valerie Fposted 15 years ago

Okay, besides conjecture about which kind of immortality is possible and which isn't....

Just an FYI I don't believe even this physical existence can be achieved on one's own.

    1. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Well, I was pondering a reasoning, other than power and greed, for the basis of religion?

I took a different position, which seems to be being overlooked or not looked at carefully enough.

Everyone on the planet knows that 'religion' is hiding something.

Billions of people believe in religion and a higher authority.

Everyone has their own individual belief...and the argument is about whether or not - GOD exists?

I don't think the argument should be whether or not he exists, but what is the church hiding from people?

The 'church' stance says "God exists?". That's a given. But, what about taking away that argument for a second.

Because, when you examine "Jesus Christ" scripture. And, we all know he really existed and what scriptures he himself wrote.

Put them into context- as science can prove- doesn't that make humans immortal?
